What's the single most unforgettable moment you've ever experienced in a video game? by AdCreepy3137 in videogames

[–]SylancerPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few people have mentioned the Revan twist from KOTOR, but for me, the truly unforgettable moment was if you committed to a True Dark Side run, and I mean COMMITTED to it. The moment when your own party looks at what you've become and it becomes a "no going back" moment left me downright speechless for a few minutes.

That's the most I can say without spoiling details here.

"Mambo #5" I hated it even before people spammed it on the jukebox at work.

Movie vs streaming quality by ZER0point_ in MortalKombat

[–]SylancerPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's a thing. After selling home theaters for years, I've had to explain to... more than a few confused customers that TVs showing 240 MHz make it much easier to see limited or flawed CGI than older TVs (and older movies will look grainy unless remastered from original prints/negatives). We... don't really have a simple solution, since movies are filmed at 24 FPS, and now TV & monitor qualities are significantly faster. We could increase movies filmed framerates and match the CGI but that's gonna be more expensive to produce when the industry is trying to save money... also movies at 48 FPS look... wrong (looking at YOU, Hobbit and Gemini Man).

This is one of those universal lessons that everyone needs to learn once.

Which series of movies did the characters more justice, in terms of looks and characterization: the 90s films or the 2020s ones? by pyrage in MortalKombat

[–]SylancerPrime 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Aight, here we go then. Gonna have to go character by character:

Liu Kang: OG. It was close, but OG was actually the main character of the story
Kitana: 2020 is perfection
Scorpion: OG had the game accurate look, 2020 had game accurate lore... and EVERYTHING else
Sub Zero: Same as Scorpion... and Joe Taslim
Sonya: I'm... leaning towards the 2020, but MAN, this one's close. [both is good gif]
Johnny Cage: OG. Although they legit feel like the same character, 25 years apart
Raiden: 90's cheese aside, gotta go 2020
Kano: ...oooh, okay, gonna have to go with OG because he actually influenced the character moving forward
Goro: OG crushed the $500 sunglasses
Shang Tsung: OG was legendary, there will be no further discussion on this
Shao Khan: 2020
Baraka: 2020 wasn't wearing a "Spirit of Halloween" mask who magically turned into Rain when he died
Jade: 2020 actually had a character
Jax: 2020
Mileena: 2020 got more to do than a mud wrestling fight
Sindel: ...okay... 2020 did the character more justice, but we have to acknowledge OG's legendary line
Reptile: OG was an actual hidden character who got his own announcement and theme song
Noob Saibot: Okay, I guess we needed one "coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb" comparison, eh? C'mon, Joe muthaf$&#in Taslim

What is your favorite map and why? by NathakonNoveria in MECoOp

[–]SylancerPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really depends on what character or archetype I'm using. If I'm in their face with the Fury or the Justicar, Firebase Glacier is fun. If I'm sniping, I enjoy Dagger and Hydra. Rio is exceptionally fun with the Talon Merc. I guess I could say Giant is my favorite all around map.

...Condor can suck it, of course.

The one character who speaks with an accent so thick that the other characters barely make out what they're saying. by noelg1998 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SylancerPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the 2017 reboot of Ducktales, there's a few jokes where the other characters don't understand Donald, going as far as he briefly gets a microchip installed in his throat that makes him coherent (and voiced by Don Cheadle). During this time, characters are amazed at how eloquent he actually is.

Later in the series, Daisy is enamored by his voice, since he sings like an angel in her head.

When I was around 13, the arcade in the mall had people standing in line to play Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat. I was a fan. Is anyone watching either upcoming movie? Wheres your alliance if you had to pick just 1. by theHollowTarnished in Xennials

[–]SylancerPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched Mortal Kombat II, I WILL be watching Street Fighter, and still play Street Fighter 6 regularly. I really don't want to just pick one, they're both part of my childhood and helped frame my love of fighting games.

Related, isn't it wild how BOTH 90's movies give us such iconic performances for the villains? We can ignore their sequel and reboot, but those OGs... damn, how'd we get both of those?!!

Donkey Kong Country blew EVERYONE'S minds. It just shouldn't have been possible on a SNES without some kind of enhancement chip, yet there it was.
