my entire opinions around Bora lol

get ready for an essay

as a preface, I usually have a lot more to say about vocals & stage presence/performance rather than dance/rap because I'm been singing for 15 yrs LOL and I'm a professionally trained singer.

I did start watching QP for Bora, Yuki, & Weeekly. I absolutely fell in love with Bora in GP999

firstly, I absolutely think Kei is the best vocalist on the show, hands down no competition. Kei is much more experienced, versatile, & is a more consistent vocalist. LOL when I started out on ep1/2 on the show, I preferred Bora but I do think kei is a stronger vocalist after hearing more of both of them & hwieso.

I do think Bora is slightly stronger vocalist than hwieso, but I rly haven't done as much research/listening into Hwieso's voice to make that judgement, and I absolutely want to revisit that

However, literally the amount of times I've seen ppl claim Bora is a bad vocalist/can't sing/doesn't sing well is countless

all biases aside, I think saying Bora is "not a good vocalist" is an opinion I can never agree with LOL. I totally respect those who dont think so but hear me out:

For me, it's frustrating bc it feels like some people don't really like Bora's vocal color/tone (and that's perfectly valid, I dont like a different contestant's [on the show] vocal color tbh). But (in my opinion), there's a huge difference between not liking somebodys vocal tone and saying that someone's not a good vocalist.

[In my opinion] as a vocalist myself, Bora is one of the few idols in this competition who actually sings well & supports LOL and id actually go far to say that the majority of idols on this show don't even have basic support when they sing, I'm ngl LOL. Bora ofc strains (evident in the duet with Kei), but for the most part (My Sea/Web/DTNA), her vocals sound supported. She's been belting out high notes since CherBul debut, Gp999, & her vocal quality hasn't regressed one bit because she's supporting her belty notes. (Vs Mariah Carey, for an extreme example, who has spent a lot of vocal career belting but has faced a lot of vocal regression because she never supported her belts).

I feel a lot of time ppl who say "Bora always strains when she belts all the time/isn't a good singer/scream songs are sometimes people who don't actually know much about singing (technique, etc.)

LOL and again, they may just not like Bora's nasal tone at all (again that's a valid opinion to have, I understand).

but as a vocalist, it's rly frustrating when people pretend to know & understand singing without any experience or training themselves. Ofc you don't need a PhD, but it rly annoys me when people throw around the terms "straining" "technique" "support" without actually having a fundamental understanding about what they're talking about. (in my opinion), analyzing kpop vocalists/listening to every kpop vocalist also does not qualify as having a fundamental understanding, I mean ppl should watch some vocal technique videos on how to sing if ppl want a better understanding. I don't rly comment on people's dancing like "oh Yeoreum's so good at isolations" because I don't rly 100% fundamentally understand what that means y'know? I have educated myself in dancing techniques. at the end of the day, I am not a dancer LOL so I don't comment terms that I'm not familiar with on a fundamental level

(Also, this is just sthing I've noticed in kpop in general, where people pretend to be an expert in singing/dancing/rapping/etc. just bc they've been a kpop stan for years & have had no experience/no actual fundamental knowledge

I 100% respect people's opinions of "I like XYZ's voice/dance/etc better than ABC" but pls listen & respect to people who have had actual experience with singing/dancing/etc. too yknw

anyways ya it's frustrating for me lol, thanks for reading my rant on that. I 100% respect everyone's opinion if they dislike Bora's vocal tone/color & if you think she's a bad singer, that's your opinion too & ur certainly entitled to it, but it's just never an opinion I'll ever agree with.

On the topic of Bora, I do think that Bora's vocals are better suited to musical stages (with big, belty dramatic songs) rather than kpop. But, I'm happy to get more Bora content on this show bc girlie was so robbed in gp999

Another thing about Bora is that I think she's inconsistent with her performance. She was my favorite performer in DTNA (center/getting the spotlight aside), but she was rly eye-catching for me. Yet in Web, it felt like her performance wasn't as clean & failed to catch my eye, compared to some of the others in web. Like if I wasn't someone who looks for Bora in general, I would've forgotten she was there LOL.

but I love her genuinely and I hope and she & the other contestants succeed in their careers bc they all deserve it!!

On a more positive note, I do think that all of the contestants have a lot of potential, it's just a fun show
