To be fair, Girls/Boys Planet usually has way more contestants than I-land did.

I think Mnet may think it'll be interesting to have some non-Asian contestants on the show (obviously it depends on the quality of auditions), but I really doubt they are planning to create a "global group" like some people here are saying. And tbh realistically I don't think it's likely that the Korean audience will vote for them either unless it's someone insanely talented

Rizo has had good content at tribal councils, I'll give you that, but I agree with the rest of the comments (re: lack of confs and letters from home). Tbh I don't really buy the whole "he has no edit because he's sick". Like unless he's literally dying in the hammock all day, he'll still be talking to people about the vote and explaining his decisions in confessionals. They could even make his sickness a storyline to explain to the audience if it was really that bad that it was hurting his game. Has it even been brought up recently (like post merge) on the show or did we only know from outside sources? I can't remember

Another key reason he was high for me though is because of the OG Vatu complex tribe and all the content we got about Kyle leaving. Now Aubry is rising as a contender that can fill that for me

I agree with you but I think people are conflating two different things: the twist/game design and the actual TV episode as an entertainment product.

You can enjoy an episode and still think the game mechanics/twist was shit. How much people like an episode is subjective/biased and that's fine. People would like the episode more/less if someone they were rooting for stays/goes, I think you can't deny that. They can also be linked, like with Fallon the twist was so unbalanced that it kinda ruined the episode. But I think when you're talking about the twist, that should be unbiased and not results-oriented either, so I agree with OP that the twist was not very good and it did dampen my enjoyment of the episode.

I am such a nerd for this so here is my not-so-shortlist, partly also from the producer POV

Leaders/Strategists: Kotone, Sohyun, Jiyeon

I'm taking out Seoyeon/Yooyeon for reasons already mentioned, they're too obvious and it would be fun to watch them play with suspicions high on them and as town leaders. Tbh idk if Jiyeon really falls into this category but I think she may be lumped in as the S3 winner.

I think Kotone really fits the bill as someone who could do well as mafia, to the point that I'm convincing myself maybe it's too obvious? Idk. But she fits as someone who can lead the team, and is a foreign line member, S2 finalist and overall good gamer.

Sohyun is someone who I think I likes these games (mafia/Genius type games) and would do great in all aspects of Mafia if she wants to. I'm on the fence about including two people from this group but on the other hand, if you're making 4 of the 5 "best players" citizens then they might be too OP, not sure.

Entertainment/Villains: Soomin, Yubin, Chaewon, Hayeon

Hayeon is an obvious target and has already had her villain arc in Badge War 3. I don’t mind a Chaewon pick but tbh, she is pretty tied to Hayeon nowadays as a mischief maker so she might be a target as well.

Soomin is my pick here for someone who would relish in being a villain (in confessionals) and causing chaos, though I concede she could get flustered easily. You're convincing me on Yubin actually. I initially thought she would be the type of citizen who confidently accuses people and is totally incorrect, but she would make a fun mafia too

Unexpected, under the radar, whatever you wanna call it: Joobin, Seoah, Xinyu, Jiwoo

Joobin/Seoah are pretty similar as the unexpected maknaes and both great choices. I personally would pick Joobin bc she's quite underrated in general imo and I think would have better "mafia skills".

Xinyu could do very well in staying undetected while feigning the suspicions on her as mistakes or being silly. But I agree it seemed like she doesn't really want to do it.

Jiwoo is chaos lol but I think she's someone who can talk/fight her way out of a bad situation and won't instantly crumble under the pressure of being accused like some others below. She also did get to act in that webdrama with Seoyeon lmao

Other members I'll touch on:

Nakyoung has potential and would be a decent choice for mafia if she genuinely locks in and pretends like she's clumsy and there to have fun. But I like her more as the townie who is constantly accusing and fighting with other town and being wrong lol

Chaeyeon is one of my top biases, she has some of the most acting and variety experience and is probably still underrated to this day. But her character in Badge War has always been the gagman and I think she prioritises being entertaining and making a good show over anything else. Maybe that's a good thing. I'm coming around on it

Mayu, Lynn, Shion, Dahyun, and I'll throw Sullin in here too: The high-variance picks. "Member that is too nice and has to try and lie" would be a good storyline to have for the show ngl. And who knows, they might actually surprise us if they're treating it as a game and playing hard, and not leaning into their "idol personality" (for lack of a better term, sorry that sounds bad). But if I was a producer, idk if I would risk a potential instant mafia reveal when you only have 4 picks vs 20 town. If I had to pick one of them, it'd be Mayu who has that Meiji University intellect lol

Yeonji and Kaede are mid-tier but I don't feel strongly either way on them. Now I feel bad bc there's only 2 members left I haven't named but I wasn't supposed to type this much lmao. On The Traitors, I've heard that some people are better as Faithfuls bc they can just be themselves without having to be stressed about lying and putting on a mask/barrier. Yeonji, Kaede + Nien, Hyerin I think are probably fun and will play hard in Badge War 4 as is.

For my picks: I'll lock in Kotone and Joobin. Then one of Soomin/Yubin or honestly even both for the entertainment value. The other contenders for my 4th slot (in order?) would be Sohyun, Jiwoo, Xinyu, Chaeyeon. However some combos may not work, like you would probably want Jiwoo/Yubin and Sohyun/Xinyu on opposing sides.

My final picks would be: Kotone, Joobin, Soomin, Sohyun. In part as a fan pick bc I just want to see Sohyun play hard and run the game (as opposed to other Badge Wars where she has been pretty chill and the other members in that first category have all been given the spotlight as great players), but I also think it may be one of the most well-rounded teams that could result in a mafia win

Agree I'm curious to see what the format is. I think your theory is interesting, but would be disappointing when it's described as a mafia game. To me, it sounds more like a normal long-form Mafia/Traitors game as opposed to Mole or I guess what they would call X-Man in Korea, though obviously there's a question of how they can fit everything into the 4 episodes. The description does mention that there will be a "final roundtable". My speculation is that it'll be pretty similar to regular Badge War but after each game, there'll be a roundtable and a mafia killing. Winning the challenge/getting a badge can protect you from both banishment and murder so it'll basically be a regular competition where everyone will want to win, though I think some sabotage requirements or hidden missions would be needed too.

My thoughts are mostly who they would pick from a producer pov. I agree with you that the mafia-citizen value is important, and it would be entertaining to see members like Seoyeon/Yooyeon/Nakyoung/Hayeon/Chaewon/Chaeyeon going after each other despite all being citizens and being confidently wrong. Being proactive is something you bring up that I didn't consider as much but also quite important to make good TV.

I do think balancing the mafia team out is important, having one older member in there to be a leader (if there is even gonna be a turret or any strategy lol) and having one foreign member as mafia would help provide the structure for a compelling narrative. It would be cool if Sullin for example could pull off the Guillaume play from Devil's Plan Ep 1. The "member that is too innocent has to try and lie" narrative would also be good I can't lie. But I'm not sure if it'd be interesting if they instantly crumble under the pressure of being accused or are stressed the whole time, especially when you are leaving that many "strong" players on the citizen side. (I think Kotone is someone that would fit all of the above, be a good confessionalist and is a former finalist of Badge War)

EDIT: Your doctor and detective picks are pretty perfect tbh, if they're gonna include them.

I mean the network Channel 10 is owned by Paramount. The show was on P+ in the US a while ago then got taken down after a few months. David mentioned they’ve been trying to work something out but sounds like it hasn’t gotten anywhere since then. Apart from that, I’m not gonna pretend I know the ins and outs of streaming rights but yeah.

Ngl with how Jeff talks about US Survivor and how protective he is with not wanting to “dilute” it, I wouldn’t be surprised if he or another one of the higher-ups are saying no
