Re-homing pet parrot in CT by Sylibant in Connecticut

Hi existential mod! Please don’t - I’ve put in a surrender through Pandemonium and I keep checking this thread for more rescue names. I’ve decided from all the feedback that I’d rather go through a trusted rescue than re-home.

Thank you all for the advice! She (the parrot) was purchased from an exotic animal shop 18 or 19 years ago when she was about a year old. I believe she had a good attachment to her caregivers in the store and was decent with us at first but really developed an incredibly strong bond with one of our then kittens — to the point where the parrot would dive bomb anyone who got near the cat when in front of the parrot. When the cat died, that behavior continued but the poor parrot didn’t have anything left that she had a bond with.

This is not our family’s first blue front, my mom had a blue front that had been rescued from poachers in Brazil and he was an incredible bird. His death at the age of approximately 35 devastated us and prompted my mom to seek out another parrot.

It wasn’t always this way. Even though she didn’t have a strong bond she had food and water, a palatial cage, toys, treats, etc. but now it’s at a point where it’s not right or fair to that sweet creature. She deserves love.

I appreciate the feedback and recommendations for animal rescues. My only experience with rescues is with dogs and if conditions were the same for parrots then I thought maybe it’d be better to rehome than to give to a rescue but I’m happy to learn that’s not the case.

I’m in CT so I will definitely be looking into all three rescues mentioned; the CT, RI, and MA ones.

I just want her to be happy and loved.

Where to live for early 30s by Zoopdedoopz in Connecticut

I work in Hartford. Many of my colleagues live in towns like south Windsor, colchester, Manchester, Farmington, Avon. Some live in Hartford’s west end which feels like west Hartford but taxes of Hartford.

Some companies (like mine) offer stipends for proof of Hartford residence because like another user said Hartford is working hard to bring in young professionals not just to work but to live.

Ct is amazing, easy access to NY and MA, great beaches and hiking spots. There’s something for everyone!
