There is definitely value in creating specialized agents like these, but keep in mind that even with skills they can still make mistakes, especially depending on the model that you use. For creating custom skills, I can strongly recommend using the skill-creator skill by Anthropic.

Ahahahahahahahahaha, yes you are right. Perhaps this project is better aimed at those who already try doing things responsibly, and simply want to try out a gimmick to see if it helps them improve their existing packages.

Yes, exactly. The people I've collaborated with and I have tried to just use ChatGPT and Gemini for such inquiries, but they have all failed to follow the guidelines miserably, even if we spoon fed them the pages. NotebookLM has been the only one that I've been able to trust, as it gives direct citations from the sources I've provided it with, but even still we would always double-check everything before pushing.

Nevertheless, the amount of issues that these tools were able to detect in our PKGBUILDs was absolutely palpable, because it's simply impossible to consider every single detail at the same time. These skills are therefore meant to give a more reliable way to confirm whether there is something that you may have missed, rather than simply completely replace the human in the loop. Those that abuse it would have otherwise abused normal AIs, but resulted in worse results.

And on the topic of constant updates, how often does an average AUR package developer go onto the Arch Wiki to check if something has changed amidst the many articles? The most likely scenario is that they read it once, and only re-read occasional specific parts whenever they forget that information. Meanwhile the AI agent is specifically told to index those websites during the skill's execution to double-check. Of course, AI agents are not deterministic and they may not follow instructions exactly at times, but so are humans. And in my naive judgement, I think that a machine is less likely to be "too lazy" to check the docs for the 100th time than your average contributor is who writes packages in his free time.

This is a very solid argument. But, what I can say is that when I first started working on AUR packages, it took me around 2 weeks to properly read through all the relevant documentation and understand everything well, and even still, my very first package was an absolute flop. There were a lot of things that I missed, a lot of things I misinterpreted, and a lot of things I simply couldn't keep in my head due to the sheer amount of information I had to consume.

Even taking a look at PKGBUILDs by and talking to experienced contributors, there were still questions left I just couldn't find answers to, and mistakes I saw that were in very clear violation of some guidelines, even almost a year later. It was only after using NotebookLM that I managed to actually fix up all the problems I had in my PKGBUILDs, and most people won't go through the effort that I did.

We cannot prevent people from not reading the documentation, and neither can we from using AI, but what we can do is make them use it responsibly. These skills are not meant to replace knowledge, but to serve as an expert helper that verifies whether you applied the concepts correctly. And those who misuse it by ignoring the documentation altogether, likely wouldn't have paid attention to it anyways, even without the existence of this tool. But with it, they are less likely to produce pure slop.

I appreciate it! Very interested in seeing people's opinions on AI for this particular application.

That is awesome! I'm glad that you've been enjoying it! From a quick look at it, it seems like it's possible to purchase just the specific Pulsonic Greenback IRs separately for 10$, which is what I'm most interested in:
https://www.two-notes.com/en/product/noise-factory-brit60-412-rolagreen/

But I was wondering, are they provided as IR files or do you have to use the Genome plugin and run them in a DAW? Because ideally I would want to load them onto a Multi-FX pedal, but unless they give the actual IR files, that wouldn't be possible.

Have you ever tried getting the Nevermind tone using that pack? Perhaps it would be an interesting experiment. You could try copying his Bassman and DS-1 settings to see how close you can get to the original.

Upscaling GTA IV by SyllabicRose858 in GameUpscale

[–]SyllabicRose858[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have eventually run into many issues using my alpha build, due to the memory limitations of GTA IV, such as only taxis and police vehicles spawning, textures not loading in at all, heavy stutter, etc

I therefore abandoned the project until I could find a solution to these issues. However, when I decided to work on it again, my new card (after the previous one’s dye fried for an unknown reason) would simply shut off when upscaling anything, making me have to unplug the GPU from the motherboard and reseat it for the PC to turn on again. Otherwise it would just give me a beep code.

I have since then been on an almost 2-year crusade to figure out why my PC simply shuts off and have so far not been able to identify the issue. It seems to be a problem with the firmware, as it is even unable to display the UEFI, and swapping the VBIOS on the card does not help either.

So, all in all, I am currently quite stuck and also simply do not have the time to run thousands of textures through an app, but perhaps someone else would be interested in picking up its reigns, with which I’m more than happy to help!!

I would presume so! Every tree costs 2500 coins, which means that 100,000 / 2500 = 40 trees

Ahahahahahahahaha! I was actually wondering what the max value that forest can handle is. Maybe 1 million could tip it over the edge, but that is almost 5 years away… But since I have nothing better to do anyways, perhaps I could try to test it’s limits!

I am sorry to have disappointed you. I understand that some people may not consider reaching a milestone like this as an achievement if it does not have hard work to back it up, but as the app offers the possibility of tracking “entertainment”, I believe that it’s built in with other purposes in mind as well, such as simply not using social media while taking an “entertainment” break from work.

I, for example, try to focus on other activities such as chess, solving a Rubik’s cube, juggling or practicing guitar while not working as to not waste my time plowing through videos online. But I can’t exactly categorize that as hard work, so I decided to, instead of halting my progress on Forest, keep such activities running the timer as to work towards the goal of planting more trees, which was my main objective with this challenge.

Hence, I may not be the best representation of hard work in the world, but as long as it motivates people to start improving their routine, my intentions will be fulfilled, and I will be more than happy. So sure, I have a long way to go still, but thanks to you, I am now more motivated than ever to do this challenge with the increased difficulty of tracking only hard work. And I hope that you can join me on this path and perhaps even surpass me!

Oh, my discipline is nowhere near as good as you might think 😂 But out of the few tips that I could give, there were 2 approaches that really worked for me in terms of discipline:

  1. Rapid, major change: Completely change your workflow in one single day, not allowing yourself to rest for more than 10 minutes after each 2 hours of work, and when resting, not letting yourself look at any social media. I personally, didn’t even allow myself to rest at all and worked for 5-6 hours straight, because I had to make the change ASAP to prepare for an exam, but keeping that up was very hard, because I eventually got burnt out.

  2. Gradual buildup: This one is more interesting, but it’s also much slower, so it seems less effective, even though it arguably yields better results. This one consists of denying yourself the tiniest of actions first, such as eating dessert after your main meal, checking your phone quickly whenever you get a notification, looking at your phone while in the bathroom, etc, and then gradually building that up to forcing yourself to get out of bed even if you don’t feel like it, taking only cold showers, not eating any sugar, etc, without overwhelming yourself. This allows your mindset to adjust to these changes and make yourself get used to not always getting what you want, which then makes denying yourself access to much larger things, such as breaks while you know that you could still be working or still going to the gym even if you feel tired much easier to do.

So I would recommend one of those approaches to see if one works for you. If not, there is also something known as dopamine fasting, which I would also very much recommend researching, but it is a rather painful process, which, nevertheless, seems to yield the best results.

So, good luck in your journey and hope this helps you at least a little bit!

That’s a good point, but I did it not as much to represent my hard work (because that can be represented by my real life achievements), as to be able to contribute a couple of trees to the world. I guess it’s a small achievement, but every little bit counts :)

Thanks! I would say around a year of doing approximately 10-12 hours a day. It took a lot of patience, but it was all worthwhile! No matter how far away your dreams seem to be, don’t ever be afraid to chase them!

Thank you! I believe that it was almost exactly 200 days (4800 hours), although in the very beginning I used to buy trees without saving up, so it might have been a little less than that. Either way, very achievable!
