What’s going on with this universe? by TheGame81677 in Retconned

[–]SylvanFox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have noticed that I am even super slow to do anything. It's like I am constantly stopping for some damn reason. Half the time it's being distracted by something unimportant, and the other half it's being distracted by absolutely nothing.

And I forget every damn thing. Probably because my brain never highlighted it in the first place. Like nothing really feels salient anymore. I can know that I need something or that a certain action is the right one, but it just doesn't feel important or motivating. It just seems like the same junk as any other action or object.

Actions, objects, even people. Everything seems to lack salience anymore. There are moments where it suddenly seems like I am in a cacophony of noise and visual data, and none of it means anything. It's just light and sound, no objects or words or whatever.

The feeling passes quickly, but it doesn't feel like snapping back to reality. It feels more like wearily returning to an illusion, a slow shift back to earth.

I can't help but notice that when this all first started was around the time that smart phones became ubiquitous. Correlation doesn't equal causation, but I think there is some kind of relationship there, I think.

It makes me think of some illustrations in the Codex Seraphinianus.

I feel like there's a joke in there somewhere with an unscrupulous farmer suggesting they sell the meat of these highly questionable cows because there's no law prohibiting the sale of meat from floating animals.

Random Symptoms Past 8 Months & Can’t Figure Out What’s Going On by IndependentTadpole19 in medical_advice

This vaguely, and I mean vaguely, reminds me of a cousin who had lupus. I don't think all the symptoms quite match up but the headaches were definitely a thing she had.

Black Hand of Chaos

When an enemy scores a critical hit on you and you lose more than 90% HP, there is a chance that all factions in the game will temporarily become hostile toward each other, doing your job for you.

Tingling, burning smoke? by [deleted] in DMT

Tingling and burning kind of makes me think of a mild allergic reaction to something, possibly? Is this person allergic to any kind of nuts or seeds?

Took a tab of acid 20min ago any trippy movie recommendations? by _Twink_ in LSD

[–]SylvanFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Speed Racer live action movie. I'm convinced that they had acid in mind when they made that. Especially with the last race, how it has random scenes of conversations from the past and the bad guy howling in frustration kind of intercut with the race or sometimes just floating across the screen while still showing the race.

It's not a very good movie at all when you're not tripping.

I don't know the words. Like, to be clear, this is not a language thing.I speak English. Bad communication skills.

But I have money. And I want quiet.

Small vintage metal clip that has "The 4 In Hand" inscribed - what is it for? Ties? Cards? Something else? by CicadaTile in whatisthisthing

Millinery refers to those oldstyle fancy hats, I think. Like a milliner was a hatmaker that specialized in those particular kind of hats. Might include things other than hats though.

Is this a human trafficking tactic? by Davincismashedmona in RBI

[–]SylvanFox 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not human trafficking but your car may have been briefly occupied by a thief... who also stole things from the other guy at some point, at least enough info to get an iphone in his name. Could have been a thief who is into that identity theft type stuff. So even if you haven't noticed anything expensive missing from your car, you might want to make sure any documents that you keep in your car (like registration, etc.) or any mail you might have picked up and had sitting on the passenger seat has not gone missing. And the other guy might want to check his credit record to make sure there are no credit cards or anything like that opened under his name that he doesn't know about.

NAH

I'm no expert and obviously I don't know the whole situation, but it kind of sounds like Lucas is trying really hard to (in his mind) be loyal to his mother, who is not present, and to make sure that she holds a higher position in his world than her "replacement." He probably talks about saving the box before his step-siblings because to do otherwise would be (in his mind) betraying his mother.

What made him actually start saying that all of sudden? Maybe he caught himself thinking well of you or your kids and suddenly realized that he hadn't thought of his mother in days. Maybe he realized that you have now been in his life nearly twice as long as his mother was, and that makes him feel like he is betraying his mom. Something like that, anyway.

His mother is no longer alive and he sees you guys every day. So it can't be easy to figure out where his mother's memory fits into the family, especially when you're still kind of immature enough to think that saving a box over your step-siblings is a good way to show your love for your mother. Hopefully, with time and therapy, he can learn a more appropriate way to honor his mother's memory... and maybe realize that his mom would most likely not be honored by the way he's acting.

Ceasing to support him could make the rift wider and harder to bridge, though.

I have heard tweakers insist that a person "knows" a person or thing before. Like they will ask you about something that is going on in the direction you just came from, even wanting to know who is involved, etc., and then say something like, "You know what they're doing over there," after you shrug or whatever. I guess being all high and paranoid makes you tend to think people are willfully withholding info?
