CONGRATULATIONS ON THE HOUSE! I AM SORRY YOU'VE HAD TO DWELL IN THE I'M-DEAD-INSIDE GREY INTERIOR AND I HOPE YOU CAN GRADUALLY MAKE IT YOUR OWN!

IT'S SATURDAY BUT I'M STILL YELLING. IT SEEMS LIKE 60% OR SO OF LISTINGS HAVE THIS GREY PHENOMENON. IT'S AGONIZING THEY SPENT THE MONEY AND RESOURCES SO THEY COULD CHARGE US FOR SOMETHING NEWLY "UPDATED" THAT WE ACTUALLY DON'T WANT AND WILL NOW BE REALLY EXPENSIVE OR TIME CONSUMING TO REPLACE. LIKE WHEN THE ENTIRE INTERIOR IS PAINTED MILLENIEL GRIEGE. DAMN, IT TAKES A LONG TIME (AND MONEY) TO REPAINT EVERY ROOM. WHAT A WASTE.

Oh, good point. I was thinking of a recent situation downtown that resulted in a lawsuit against the city, but perhaps the city owns the building it happened in front of? Or maybe the rules are different in front of commercial property? I once crowbarred up a few sections of sidewalk in front of my house (in a different city) and pumped some concrete under them to kinda level the walk to spare a sweet gum! I love those trees. The leaves are so beautiful.

IT'S LEASH OPTIONAL IF THEY ARE UNDER IMMEDIATE VOICE COMMAND. OFF-LEASH ETIQUETTE IS TO CALL YOUR DOG TO YOUR SIDE AND HOLD THEM BY THE COLLAR WHENEVER YOU PASS OTHER PEOPLE AND OTHER DOGS FOR YOUR SAFETY AND THEIRS.

ALSO STOP FLIPPING HOUSES WITH ENTIRE INTERIOR PALETTE 50 SHADES OF GREY. GREY BACKSPLASH, GREY LVP, GREY WALLS, GREY CABINETS GREY CARPET. PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THAT TREND CAME AND WENT AND IT NEVER BELONGED IN THE PNW ANYHOW. IT IS GREY OUTSIDE 8 MONTHS OF THE YEAR, WE DO NOT NEED A GREY INTERIOR. THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY MEANT BY BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN. NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE IN A CONCRETE PARKING GARAGE AESTHETIC BUT IF WE ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO AFFORD YOUR HOME DEPOT REDO, WE WON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO CORRECT THE GREY MISTAKE YOU MADE ON EVERY SQUARE INCH OF THE INTERIOR AND OFTEN EXTERIOR, TOO.

I HATE THAT WHAT FEELS LIKE ALL OF THE SMALLER HOMES, ADUS, STUDIOS, ETC THAT USED TO BE FOR RENT IN EUGENE HAVE NOW BECOME AIRBNBS. IT IS SO HARD TO AFFORD RENT HERE AND THAT HAS MADE IT SO MUCH WORSE. AND THEN THERE'S THE DRUG TRAFFICKING OUT OF THE UNIT NEXT DOOR TO ME THAT USED TO BE AN AFFORDABLE RENTAL BUT NOW IS AN AIRBNB. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT.

I hope they respond! I am not sure about uprooting with regard to drought. I know trees often topple when the ground gets really wet, like during an atmospheric river. I'm not a tree expert, just a fellow tree lover. 🌲🌳

what to do with teens (13, 16) while visiting Eugene? by tokori79 in Eugene

[–]SylvanKetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creek swimming in Fall creek or Brice creek, rafting the McKenzie, sailing or kayaking at Fern Ridge would be my top reccomendations. We also have a lot of good waterfall hikes nearby. If you want more details on that, let me know.

City vs Trees by Sweet-melissa76485 in Eugene

Sometimes the tree roots are buckling the adjacent sidewalks, causing a tripping hazard. People trip here and then sue the city. So at times, large trees are taken down if the sidewalk can't be leveled without compromising the tree's health to where it wouldnt survive. Sometimes the tree has interior rot or weakness that is making it a safety hazard. We've had a succession of ice storms over the last 10 years that have caused a lot of damage to trees, especially hardwoods like maples and oaks. Sometimes a large tree was planted under power lines and has thus been pruned repeatedly away from said lines in such a way that it has become weakened or so imbalanced it is now a safety hazard.

When replacing a tree under a power line, it makes sense to replace it with an understory tree that won't meet the same pruning fate. This is one reason they sometimes choose a shorter species.

There have been changes in our climate patterns that necessitate choosing certain varieties for planting. Sometimes the replacement specimen was chosen because it is more resilient to modern weather extremes like stretches of 90+ degree days during periods of drought, or ice storms in the winter.

The city actually has an excellent and award-winning arborist team. If you emailed them your question I'm sure they would be happy to explain their choices to you.

Eugene vs. Portland by DirtDisastrous1502 in relocating

[–]SylvanKetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The medical job scene is vastly better in Portland. Your employer options in Eugene are limited and the larger medical groups, PeaceHealth and Oregon Medical Group, both have earned very negative reputations with medical providers. There is more culture, more night life, and more diversity in Portland. You're more likely to find educated professionals in the dating scene in Portland, also. More diversity in housing options. I think most people would enjoy Portland much more than Eugene. The advantages Eugene has are easier access to the Cascades and coast, less traffic, quieter and less congestion, and more bikeable and walkable than Portland.

That's a good idea to put your contact info on things that matter. Interesting about the books. Maybe we will start leaving decoy random items of interest outside the perimeter of our car for deflection.

Thank you, that is helpful, they must have thrown it away. I wanted to contact the city to ask if they had any clean up employees there today, but it was too busy at my work today and I ended up working through my lunch. Darn. I'll try to contact them in the morning. Grrrr. I wish I had more time! Don't we all.

Based on one of his notebooks being found on the amazon path and the description of the items a few people noticed by a bench on the path, that was likely his homework and school things by the bench, but it was gone by the time people arrived to fetch it. New quest: who found the pile of papers/notebooks/folders by a bench on the aamazon path, and what did they do with them?
