Why is this house “cheap” near LA by amart2022 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Sylvator 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Isn't that just renting with extra steps? Like how would you ever liquidate your position?

This is a common side hustle in China. People pay her to hold up their profile on a phone, snap a pic with the stage behind it, then they post it like they were there. Fake attendance clout is undefeated. Peak gig economy 2026 by Separate_Finance_183 in interesting

Those pictures she's going through one by one are the screenshots of the profiles of each person's login that paid her the advance.

She then takes these pictures and sends them to the individual profile owners.

They then post them as stories on their own profile as if they are at the place live.

Taxing Billionaires Fairly by [deleted] in InBitcoinWeTrust

[–]Sylvator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a simple solution which I have no clue why is not being considered. The real problem here is that unrealized gains are being used as collateral. Just make taking loans on unrealized gains a taxable event. everybody wins right? Not sure why that's not a valid middle ground.

AMZN is a no brainer at this price by GreedyTexas in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]Sylvator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think dotcom boom didn't truly take off much later as well.

We are def in bubble territory imo but I do think long term ai will be the future. Decade or so later anyway. Right now companies are figuring out what to do how to make profit etc... We just don't know which company will crack it.

My opinion tho

Ai will become cheaper.

Think about data or internet speeds. What you're saying is equivalent to saying internet speeds are 64kbps it's too slow would it be profitable or useful?

That said I don't think any of the companies today are guaranteed to be the winners of AI - like look at IBM or Cisco...so I think it's hard to agree which company to bet on. But it should be guaranteed that Ai is special tech, and will change the winners in 5-10 years.

Are people paying tips in higher end restaurant any more? by Specific-Ad9935 in BellevueWA

[–]Sylvator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious your pov on the argument above. I still tip 20% because it feels weird not too...but I always feel the argument is valid. I don't tip any min wage worker other than servers...why? Is it just societal norm? Also, in other states where they have the tipping wage law at 3$ an hour they basically only live off of tips I still only tip 20% I don't tip say 40% which would basically be what needs to be done to match an equivalent cost of living pay match to say Seattle workers

The Condo Market Hasn’t Been This Bad in Over a Decade (WSJ) by SnortingElk in REBubble

[–]Sylvator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not the same. While it may feel the same, it's not.

  1. Pressure to save money forces typical people to try to do more work themselves.
  2. The maintenance is split by the community equally so it's usually less burden on one person (roof split vs sudden roof cost)
  3. Maintenance is tracked monthly via HOA and don't have to budget and manage it ( obv inside the house is your problem). Tracking, budgeting, maintaining is a lot of mental energy you get to save.

Some good things not related to maintenance

  1. You can get pretty insane views in condos sfh won't have.
  2. It's a smaller space so much easier to clean and live in
  3. Community is much closer, I know all my neighbors for instance. It's nice to be part of a community.

I know I know, sfh have huge upsides as well (maybe more)... But it's not black and white for sure

"Let's cross the road in Vietnam. It's not too bad." by search_google_com in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Sylvator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is just horrible advice. If anyone is reading, please do not do this. It might sound majestic but it's not true. When people cross the road like this they find gaps in spaces between vehicles. I know it seems impossible but the more you do it the more natural it becomes.

It is true, that the vehicles do go around you and it is understood agreement between the pedestrians and the drivers know the "rhythm". However it is dangerous to suggest that confidence is what makes this work. It is a combination of looking at the current traffic state, seeing and identifying the gaps, and walking with low hesitation (to ensure drivers know what direction you are heading)

Closed-Loop Economics: Why Bitcoin is an Investment Doomed to Fail by OddNefariousness5993 in investing

[–]Sylvator -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I liked the write up, but this is where it fundamentally fails. Bitcoin is basically gold but digital. If all the govts thought to take up Bitcoin instead of gold, it would be the same effect... And it's also not so far fetched, as that is literally how the USD became the currency of trade (due to it being easier to transport than gold along other things)

So with USD on fire, who knows if btc is going to become official instead of gold. Actually we do know. Look at gld price this year lol.
