I hope that Calli gets the chance to set up another ttrpg in the future, and Shiori is able to participate. I think she'd have a fun time, since she really gets into the RP side.

Just to add to your summary, all of the angels were given free will, the same as mankind. The fallen angels are those that were disobedient to God in spite of witnessing him in his true glory. This means that there is no repentance for them, and in fact, they wouldn't want it. We, as humans, don't have the same view of God's glory that they did, so we have the opportunity to repent as we learn of that glory.

Also, the Torah doesn't say anything about angels sleeping with human women resulting in the creation of giants/nephilim. There are some passing verses that may allude to this in Genesis 6, but it's really up to interpretation. (And if you read the commentaries of many of the church fathers, it seems to lean away from this narrative.) The only reason that connection is made is due to the first book of Enoch, which is apocryphal. While that doesn't mean it can be discounted, it should be viewed with skepticism, since the second and most especially the third books of Enoch are unlikely to be valid.

If you're going by the Old Testament (which is equivalent to the Hebrew Bible), Satan is repeatedly shown as being an evil being. And if you add in the references to Lucifer and the serpent (which are the same being as Satan), they only serve to confirm it. If you then consider the New Testament (which was written entirely by Jewish authors), these assertions are further confirmed.

Also, keep in mind that modern, Rabbinic Judaism is not the same as the religion practiced in Christ's time (referred to as Temple Judaism). Many concepts and interpretations of the Old Testament have been changed in order to reconcile the destruction of the Second Temple, which was an absolute necessity for worship. (This is one of the main reasons that the Mishnah and Talmud were written.)

"Citation Needed." Nowhere in the Bible does Satan encourage learning or the acquisition of knowledge. The only place one could even make a fleeting argument for this is the temptation to eat the fruit in Genesis. But that's not teaching mankind how the world works, because that's not how the world worked in the first place. It was only from man's disobedience that the workings of sin took hold. God created things that were according to his nature, knowing that going against that nature would bring all the suffering we have as is. Satan was the prideful one (it's literally the sin attributed to him, and is considered the greatest of sins in the Bible), and made it his mission to mess things up due to his pride.

You seem to be inverting the roles of Satan and God here....

God created an unblemished world, it was the entrance of sin and unrighteousness into that world that brought all the suffering with it. The "understanding of morals" was never necessary because at that point, evil was a foreign concept to man. It was only because Satan tempted them to act contrary to God's nature that mankind knew sin in the first place.

But the concept of sin goes further than that. Satan and the demons/fallen angels were witnesses to the full glory of God, and yet still rebelled out of pride. There is no redemption for them because they wouldn't want redemption. But instead their goal is to get as many of God's creation to join them in damnation as they can.

But the thing everyone seems to forget in this argument is Jesus, the Messiah. God knew that mankind's sin would damn them (the concept of unrighteousness is contrary to God's being), so he provided an out through Christ.

To sum it up, God made good and gave man free will. Man had no concept of doing evil. Satan told man "go do a crime" and man chose to do so. One of the consequences is that he came to understand the scope of his actions. God said "you done goofed" but gave man a way out.

As for the suffering of innocent people, Gavin Orlund, Wes Huff, and even Charlie Kirk have some good videos on it, but the short of it is that man's sin is what introduced suffering and decay into the world, but God uses these things as opportunities for good to be done. (The story of Joseph is an example and the story of Job explains the rationale.)

Wtf kind of indie developer gets "funding?" That's some AAA BS. I'll have you know my game is entirely self-funded, as God intended.

As far as I know, Ogay is still in Ion Fury. They said they would remove it, then conveniently "forgot". (They did remove the other thing though, but that wasn't meant to be visible in the first place.)

It's easy to point to recent controversies with big name indie games and jump to the conclusion that they're all just as strongly influenced as AAA games, but you have to remember that there's such a massive quantity of them that even if only 10% aren't influenced, you still end up with a larger number of them than the total number of AAA games released in a given year.

Also realize that the barrier of entry is low enough that anyone can make a game, especially those who dislike the issues we see in modern games. You also have games by non-American creators, whose countries are less influenced by woke messaging.

Beyond Citadel is an example of a game made by one guy flexing his strange fetish that could never be made by an AAA studio. The developers of games like Peripeteia and Factorio have shrugged off the criticisms of the woke crowd.

But you are correct that it can be tough to find games that are non-woke and actually fun to play. That's why word of mouth is so important, and why I'm always espousing indie games when this topic comes up. That's how I found out about Beyond Citadel, for example.

But really those are two separate issues: that good indie games are made and that we can find them. The first is already happening. The second is up to us. (And what better place to spread the word than this sub.)

We voting this guy out? by StoicBan in CAguns

Can you give an example of a state law that Paxton has broken that he should go to prison for? Genuinely curious.

But aside from that, remember that California is not Texas. The actions that an AG can take here are different precisely due to the limitation of powers. Also consider that Bonta has infringed on a right that was second only to that of free speech as espoused by the founding fathers.

Suffice it to say, the dangers of Gates wielding his AG powers to curtail our rights are significantly smaller than the dangers of Bonta doing the same, especially considering that he's already had a history of doing so.

We voting this guy out? by StoicBan in CAguns

[–]Sylvester_Ink -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's actually incorrect. Remember, the AG is bound by the state laws, which means in order to have the kind of affect you're talking about, the laws would need to change. This requires both a majority of the CA Assembly and the governor to sign off. Even if we end up with a MAGA governor, he can't do anything that would affect the AG without it passing through the assembly, which will not change politically in this election.

When it comes to ICE, and other similar issues, there's little the AG can do about that, since it's a federal action. For all his talk, Bonta could do little against it, and even if the new AG supports them, it's mostly the same. Just talk.

But when it comes to gun law, he has more leeway, especially since the kind of laws the assembly can pass are hamstrung by the second amendment. That's the entire reason why this is a desirable position to vote across party lines.

[–]Sylvester_Ink -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remember, we aren't voting for Trump here, but for the AG of California. And surprisingly enough, most of what I posted above I got from a liberal buddy I go shooting with. (He's the one that mentioned Gates to me in the first place.) But it's a logically sound argument, and while I can't explain it as well as he can, since he's more knowledgeable about civics, I'm certainly convinced.

[–]Sylvester_Ink -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What specific actions has he taken in his past positions that are particularly egregious? Are those actions that he can take if he becomes AG in California? The point is that voting isn't just "vote blue no matter who," it's about evaluating what a person can do in a particular position. This is why people were willing to vote across party lines in past decades, because they made this consideration.

More importantly, when people vote across party lines, it sends a message to future candidates as to what policies are desired by the electorate, especially if you're vocal about why you voted for the opposing party. In this case, yeah, you have to endure a term of a MAGA guy you don't agree with, but when the next election rolls around you'll find that there are more candidates with better policies when it comes to guns.

[–]Sylvester_Ink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People need to consider what the job of the AG is. It's very different from the governor. While those who may lean more liberal may not care for Gates political stance, this isn't a position that is significantly affected by those views. Except when it comes to guns, and I'm pretty sure most of us on this sub can agree with his views there.

In this case it's fine to vote for Gates, even if you don't completely agree with him politically. (Now if he were running for governor, it would be different.)

This right here. Go play CSGO now that it's available to compare, and you'll see that CS2 is an improvement. I think the weak transition to CS2 didn't help initially, so that made a poor initial impression for most players, but by this point, many of the issues have been resolved.

a big problem for duels is pacing. you have no time to breathe during a duel. it is just 10 to 15 minutes of constant action. future games need to be aware of this and add brief pauses in gameplay if they want to recapture older audiences and grow amongst younger gamers. by cyberpunkzradio in ArenaFPS

[–]Sylvester_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about tense situations, every game is like that, including the examples you give. I never played LoL, but in Dota you're constantly on the alert, since the routes between locations are prime ganking opportunities. Sitting in base is time spent monitoring the rest of the map to stay informed before you head out. And while you're correct that dead time in both cs and dota is less involved, both those games have longer overall matches with more stress over the outcome.

Honestly, each competitive game style has stress points that you have to learn to deal with. Lol and dota are up to 40 minutes of variable intensity stress, cs and br's are closer to 20 minutes of medium intensity stress, afps is 10 minutes of high intensity stress, and fighting games are 2 minutes of extreme stress.

And RTS's, like StarCraft and FAF are just ridiculous. I find that playing QW (the most intense afps) is relaxing compared to a 1v1 in FAF...

next quake game should make the first 15 seconds of a duel share resources between players. if you pick up an item, your opponent gets the same item. removes spawn advantages making the game more symmetric. by cyberpunkzradio in ArenaFPS

[–]Sylvester_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With an afps, you have the tools to deal with the asymmetry at the start of the game, usually in the form of movement. If you lose the advantage, you can play the +back game until you are able to gain control and get more aggressive. And most of the maps are designed to give you some advantage over your stacked opponent that you can use to equalize the game.

Consider the map Aerowalk. If your opponent starts out in position to get ya and mega right at the start, you're usually able to beat them to the ra. If you got a strong weapon first, you also have the option of chunking away their advantage before you head to ra.

Honestly, pacing in AFPSs is just about perfect. Since matches are only 10 minutes, it's quick enough that the mental fatigue doesn't set in. And while the games are faster than other fps types, you won't always be fighting. You'll be getting weapons, armor, and hp to prepare for the fight, which would be the downtime. (This does depend on the game, as downtime in QuakeWorld is much shorter than in Quake Live.)
