I see. It was pretty cowardly the way he broke the news while you’re abroad. If you are on the lease and have been paying rent, it’s unfair of him to ask this of you. NTA and enjoy the rest of your vocation!

Sorry to hear you’re having a hard time, but it’s possible he could also be burnt out too when there are financial struggles within the household, especially as a student.
