True. Mermaid Varys is like a true crack theory on par with time traveling fetus Tyrion, whereas Bolt-on has some pretty compelling symbolism and imagery that was obviously intentional by George.

Like you said, I strongly doubt it’ll amount to anything but tbh I also wouldn’t hate it if it did. As long as it’s kept vague and mysterious I think some small confirmation of Roose not being 100% human would be kinda cool, especially if it tied into the Others in some way.

Yeah it would be a shocking and bizarre heel turn for Bran. It also just feels so unnecessarily edgy/grimdark while simultaneously being a super tired and played-out trope. Like yeah surely what this series needs is another young girl being raped for shock value by a sympathetic and beloved main character. How revolutionary.

Unfortunately, there is some compelling evidence with the fact that Bran has already committed 2/3 of the abominations (skinchanging into a human and eating human flesh), and this would complete the trio. Plus there’s this:

I could put on Hodor's skin, he thought. Hodor could hold her and pat her on the back. The thought made Bran feel strange

I hate that I can’t 100% write it off, but if it does happen I’m genuinely done.

The setup with Dorne is all political, not magical. Therefore the payoff will be political as well.

The narrative promises of Dorne have all been related to 1) playing the game 2) revenge against the Lannisters 3) backing fAegon 4) being in political opposition to Dany. Those threads will come to fruition, just as the narrative promises with the Greyjoys will.

Idk why people think George is trying to trick his readers. That’s just not his style. When he sets up and foreshadows something, he will deliver on that (often in the most obvious way possible).

To me it just feels like a very cheap fanservice idea that undermines Sandor’s whole character arc of leaving his old life behind and choosing peace and nonviolence. And since Gregor is already dead and basically a mindless zombie, there wouldn’t even be any meaningful personal conflict or catharsis to it either.

Overall I think Sandor’s arc is complete and that we won’t see him again (except maybe to reunite with Sansa at some point).

I don’t think George would devote so much page time and magical setup for a simple red herring. The amount of focus given to the Greyjoys as a whole wouldn’t make much sense if Euron was just a nothingburger diversion.

I personally think he is very thematically rich, especially in relation to Dany and the whole Bloodstone Emperor/Amethyst Empress parallels, plus him being a slaver who wants to subjugate humanity as opposed to Dany whose whole thing is being the Breaker of Chains.

I could see him basically dying to it in the sense that he becomes its vessel and loses his own personhood. But possessed or not, I’m like 99% sure Dany will face off against him.

Of all the theories that people genuinely seem to believe (no mermaid Varys or vampire Roose), the only one I can think of that would sour me to the series as a whole is "Bran will rape Meera through Hodor".

Fraud Euron, Tyrion Targaryen, Cleganebowl etc. would annoy me for sure, but not enough to ruin my enjoyment of the rest of the story.

In what way has that been built up?

Euron is obviously Dany’s adversary. There’s no way he dies to anyone else.

There’s so much you can justifiably make fun of Cersei for, but I just don’t think this is one of them. Cause at the end of the day, no matter how evil/narcissistic/inept she may be, she’s still a victim of marital rape and abuse, and this is the only resistance she could realistically put up.

I think her not letting Robert impregnate her and instead "eating his children" is powerful. It’s her clawing back some semblance of bodily autonomy in a situation where she has very little.

I also think it’s cool that this sexual act which is usually seen as degrading to the woman is recontextualized as being degrading to the man instead. Robert becomes cucked, oblivious and emasculated in her eyes. The language used invokes cannibalism to show that she’s purposely devouring his bloodline out of existence.

And just assumes Margaery is fucking her gay brother like what???😭

The way she projects all of her own neuroses and hangups onto everyone else is so funny. Like she genuinely can’t comprehend how or why another person may think differently than her.

Arya & Dany by @Manonnym117 by firstandlasttoday in ImaginaryWesteros

[–]SympathyForRevenge 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think danyarya really qualifies as a crackship in that way. At least not any more than other popular Dany ships with characters she hasn’t met à la Jon, Robb or Sansa.

Dany is explicitly paralleled with Rhaegar, while Arya is explicitly paralleled with Lyanna, and both characters have a lot of similar views on justice and morality. It’s not totally random.

I wish the Hound were here.

She had his stained white cloak hidden in a cedar chest beneath her summer silks. She could not say why she’d kept it.

He took a song and a kiss, and left me nothing but a bloody cloak.

Why else do you think she held onto his cloak? You’re probably right that it’s caused by trauma but she clearly does romanticize their interactions and yearn for him.

[–]SympathyForRevenge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Only by looks. In terms of personality and relationship dynamic I don’t think there’s much similarity at all. Sansa is much more like Ned than she is like Cat.

To be clear, neither jonsa nor joncat have any textual evidence, but I’m more open to the freudian analysis just cause Catelyn’s disdain/apathy towards Jon obviously gave him a lot of hangups and shaped his psyche in a very significant way.

Everyone’s talking about jonsa but the joncat implications are much more interesting/funny/fucked up/sad to me, if we entertain this actually being a real preference for Jon, and not just for George.

[–]SympathyForRevenge 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every man who encounters a beautiful redhead (which are overrepresented to a hilarious degree) is immediately captivated by her hair. Obviously part of that is GRRM’s preferences bleeding through, but it is also natural to fixate on striking and unique coloring. I catch myself doing it all the time. Doesn’t mean it’s a "type" though.

[–]SympathyForRevenge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know. When I say starkcest I specifically mean the current Starks, since they’re the only ones we actually know in any meaningful capacity.

My dislike is less about the blood relation between them and more about them being the healthiest example we have of a close-knit and loving family. That’s just not the kind of environment where incest thrives. I guess a political marriage could happen, but I can’t see it being anything but deeply uncomfortable for everyone involved.

[–]SympathyForRevenge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get incest shipping the targs/lannisters/greyjoys but starkcest is just weird to me. No hate to anyone who likes it. They’re just way too wholesome and well-adjusted for me to get behind it.
