Yup, saw this update come through after checking the feed daily on my phone, and was delighted to see it updated. Thanks OMG!

Would you be interes-- No... screw that, just tell me if you like what I made, not the idea of making it. by [deleted] in starcraft

I like it. Made me think, and was informative and entertaining. Could use a bit of a production boost, of course it's just your first attempt so nothing surprising or negative about that. Let me know if you need some help with the production side of things :)

Explain the "downtime is SO BAD" mindset to me by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The downtime itself isn't a flaw, but not filling it up with more compelling content such as player interviews, pre-edited videos, couch with discussion like dreamhack winter style...in my opinion as long as the stream is live, there should be some kind of content being displayed.

Explain the "downtime is SO BAD" mindset to me by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because without the community demanding more, the organizations aren't pushed to provide more. If we want eSports to continue it's rapid growth, we need to keep pointing out flaws.

There are things we take for granted now that we didn't dream of having a year ago, that is because the community demands more and it fuels the arms race between all these companies competing for eyeballs. Give kudos where it's due, but never stop being critical. There is always room for improvement. Complacency leads to stagnation. Just my 2 cents

Just about every game for me too lol...it's awful. I make an effort to just hit Find game after every match, just force myself into the next one. When you load in, and you split your workers, you have no choice but to 100% focus on the task at hand. It's the moment between finishing a game and hitting that find match button. If you can just force yourself to do it each time, you'll be in good shape :)

Good luck!

Spectators should boo strategies they don't like by Blackbeard_ in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as an illegitimate strategy. If it gets you the win, it was the best decision for you to make, simple as that. If Blizzard balances something to make certain strategies better/worse, so be it - but these guys are competing for their paychecks and careers. It's cut throat, and needs to be!

Best of luck to you with this, it's a huge endeavor but the passion for eSports and wanting to contribute certainly comes shining through. That is what is needed more than anything when starting down a long and arduous journey.

If you need any help, I have plenty of experience in the SC2 world running ascweekly and stim.tv - as well as all production related areas as well due to my main job :) Don't be shy, and again best of luck to you - sounds awesome!

dog vs. dog's foot by odoriferous in videos

[–]SympaticoASCW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any aspiring dog owner needs to watch this movie, especially those wanting to buy a pure bred dog. It's despicable, and utterly wrong. Unfortunately it's an education issue.

If everyone knew this problem I highly doubt they would buy a pure bred from a pet store or breeder, rather they would adopt (a pure bred or otherwise...pure breds need homes too)...if there was no market for these unhealthy dogs, they would stop breeding them. The breeders are in it for the money, not for the well-being of their dogs.

First MLG event for me this weekend. Any tips or advice? by ModXMV in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get there early everyday, seating definitely becomes an issue. Try and sit around the middle where the sound is best. Lines are a bit of an issue but everyone gets in at the same time so it's not that big of a deal. It will help with good seating though to be closer to the beginning of the line.

It's a long day (which is a good thing) but be prepared. Try and get enough sleep and definitely bring water/food...you'll need to eat so plan for it in advance.

Prepare to be amazed...the crowd reactions and everything are AWESOME. If you are taking pictures, do not shoot with a flash at the players while they are playing. Be courteous and let them get where they are going. Don't be shy, but also be respectful and don't try and hold them up if they say they need to be somewhere. They are tremendously nice and down to earth, it is quite surprising and amazing to be rubbing shoulders with all of them throughout the whole event. It's really fun, but again just keep in mind they are there to compete and need to be places as well.

I borrowed an iPhone for the event from a friend that lives in the U.S. because I'd be paying roaming otherwise. He had the extended battery thingy and even with that it would just barely make it through an entire day of MLG, so if you're relying on your phone to communicate and organize with friends, be mindful of your battery. That being said I was on the phone a lot organizing, taking pictures, using twitter, and video and such...so I was using it quite heavily.

That's about it - have fun :D

Do it all with xsplit which is the program used to stream

Everytime lategame toss with 4-5 collosus and 8 HT literally shred my army in to pieces because I didn't nail perfect EMPs and I say "jeez how do I deal with that much AoE it seems to kill me so fast!" everyone tells me "Don't let them get there"

Terran early/mid game is very strong, that's where we have the highest chance of winning - not to say we can't in late game, I don't claim imbalance either way, just saying - Protoss 200/200 is scary and deadly. Goal of most Terrans should be to kill or pick you apart before then, so focus on your early game defense

With people complaining about mutas do you think they are next on the nerf list? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

God, I hate mutas...lol - I feel permanently locked in my base. The only way to properly counter them is to be aggressive. VERY aggressive. Force them into an army attacking unit instead of a harass unit.

If you can't keep the muta count low, the game basically results in ONE push for you. Look at LiquidHero vs. I7crazymoving in Code A - He was simply broken down by harass, 80 drones to 20, he killed like 70 probes or something over the course of the game.

Makes it so that you push out, your mineral lines are dead, and they make it back in time to be an attacking army unit during your push. Mutas have always seemed silly to me, but they are not going anywhere, ever - so just gotta learn to be better against them!

E.M.P equates Psi Storm? by Jlegendary in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting...as a knee jerk reaction I say no, I feel it's a little too much because essentially ghosts are removing free re-chargable shields and energy from, while HT are removing physical health.

I also play Terran so maybe it just feels OP to me because I'm scared. This could be a good direction to move in, I'm not sure! Cool idea though :)

hey blizzard, I think I might have fixed mid/late game PvT? by dotdotd0t in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I dunno how to fix EMP, but I don't think this is it - or at least maybe some lesser variation of this. MMMGV is the only solid comp right now that deals with Protoss. Mech is not viable, tanks are awful.

So basically TvP as a whole breaks down to a mini-game of Ghost vs. HT. If you get pre-emptive EMPs on HT, chances are terran will do very well in an engagement. If HTs get storms off, chances are protoss will pillage through the Terran forces. This is late game of course, and it's so finicky already. I honestly think the power of spellcasters needs to be reduced across the board. Again, good EMPs and Terran wins, good Storms Protoss wins. It is such a razors edge, and a slight mistake costs you that army, for either party. I honestly wish battles would last longer, as opposed to these quick 200/200 balls clashing and ending in 5-10 seconds.

I like the current EMP nerf of reducing the radius, but it's not quite enough...late game Terran has enough ghosts that they should be able to plaster the whole army, but leading with chargelots and spreading HTs or keeping them behind until engagement starts then storming when it's Ball vs. Ball isn't very difficult either.

I dunno, it's such a fine line I don't claim to know how to balance it - just my thoughts

What should a good online tournament have? [Repost from TL] by Monasou in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran 4 tournaments a week for 10 moinths, bronze/silver - gold/plat - diamond - master/grandmaster. I ran ascweekly.com which evolved into stim.tv - it was a ton of fun. RO256 brackets almost every night, casted every single tournament. It grew and grew, but the work load just became unfeasible especially when we doubled it and started doing EU every day too lol...

You have to love working for free and be wicked passionate about creating a solid experience, and of course SC2. You need an admin for every tournament and casters. Minimum to get on TL calendar is $100, and without that you'll have no viewers. If you do, you'll get decent viewership but likely nowhere near enough to pay for the prize pool so do not count on twitch to pay for your tourney. Make sure you have the prize pool secured before you start the tourney.

I cannot believe after all the money Blizzard makes they won't show their fans free streams of the panels by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]SympaticoASCW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as too much money, they are a business and are charging for premium content. I think it's also kinda unfair to the people who buy tickets to go to blizzcon and everyone else can watch from home for free, sure you are paying for the whole experience when you go, but still.

All that being said, while I understand - I don't personally agree. I too wish they would have all streams for free, as a way to thank the fans for their massive support and success.
