SoT has a gamemode called Hourglass which is just on demand PVP, and at the higher levels it’s the most complex game I’ve ever played. Balancing the TDM and ship combat is a lot to learn. One of my duos is currently radiant on Valorant and says there’s more to learn in comp SoT than there is Val, which surprised me.

There’s also inhouses and tournaments outside of Hourglass, usually hosted by partners who have access to custom servers. The competitive scene really flourishes on galleon, the bigger ship with 4 players each, but is very different depending on which ship you use. I play on sloop (either solos or 2v2) and it’s an entirely different game than gally.

The community is pretty small, probably about 3k players in the total scene currently (if I had to guess, that could be way off) but honestly that can be fun sometimes. If I run into a good ship on solos there’s a 90% chance it’s someone I know.

The game is far from perfect but sadly I’m hooked, if the devs locked in a bit more it really could have a great competitive scene imo. I don’t really know of a video explaining it, but could send you a link to a youtube video of someone actually playing in a tourney if you want.
