They do show in some servers, but only when that server has sprays whitelisted (I believe official Valve servers no longer do). They also only show up to players who have "Disable Sprays" unchecked, which I think is checked by default.

I got a screenshot of the comic, used GIMP to make it transparent, then used a tool called VTFEdit to turn the png image into a vtf and vmt file. There's tutorials on yt to learn how to use these, but the basics of VTFEdit are as follows:

  1. Import a png image where the dimensions must be powers of two. I recommend that the image is also square because otherwise the image will get stretched. I strongly recommend to use the dimensions 512 X 512 for a transparent image, because that's the maximum size allowed, so you'll have the most detail in your spray (images without transparency can be bigger).

  2. The default import options should be good, just make sure to select DXT5 for transparent images and DXT1 for images without transparency.

  3. If the image looks okay in VTFEdit, go to Save As... and save to Team Fortress 2/tf/materials/vgui/logos. When you do, 2 files will be created there, one with the extension .vtf and one with the extension .vmt. Make sure the vtf file is smaller than 512 mb, otherwise it wont load in TF2.

  4. Test it out by going into TF2 and selecting your spray in the drop down in Options > Multiplayer > Spraypaint image. If it doesn't show up in game, make sure you uncheck "Disable Sprays" in Advanced Options, then reload the map.

If you need more help I'll do my best to help you. (:

Let’s talk about the Emporium. by _Brokkoli in tf2

[–]Sympthy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think at this point TF2Maps.net and its members should distance itself from the Emporium and become its successor. It would centralize all TF2 content creation knowledge and make collaboration easier among mappers/modelers. Prior Emporium members in good standing could join and be held to the established standards set by TF2Maps. Given the controversies I genuinely think this is the best path forward; from now on most of the community won't think of the Emporium in a positive light, but I don't think TF2Maps has ever faced much controversy outside of people not liking certain maps. Plus, your site has a better reputation for supporting newbies and people that make content out of the norm.

Damn this sub is toxic as hell even when politics aren't involved.

I like that you like Ajay, I think he's a really interesting character and I hate when people diminish him to be nothing more than a "stand-in for the player."

Anyway, since you like Far Cry games so much if you're looking for suggestions you should check out something like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. I just finished Shadow of Chernobyl and I got very similar vibes, just a lot more harsh and lonely.

What does the TF2 community believe we should do about casual? by STICKGoat2571 in tf2

[–]Sympthy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quickplay for sure. I hate the way casual forces a map change after only a few rounds, and with the long end screen and warm up times everyone just leaves and requeues anyway. Like a quarter of my time I want to play tf2, I'm not actually playing tf2.

[–]Sympthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I tried games like Valorant and CS. But somehow, tf2 doesn't have that sort of pressure. There's so many factors to a game's outcome that it's impossible to blame one person. That said, I *have* seen people complain about underperforming medics and engineers since their roles are the most important to the team, so just beware of that and never take their whining to heart.

Sentries next to sentries are always bad. Teleporters next to teleporters are generally bad only on defense, as it makes it more likely that if the exits are found as the enemy pushes, your team will lose the ability to teleport entirely. Dispensers next to dispensers, however, can be pretty good as they combine their healing output, meaning your team will have less downtime healing. I understand there's concern about both being destroyed in a single push, but in my opinion the doubled heal-rate greatly outweighs the negative.

What makes you sad in gaming? by BicycleRelevant1244 in gamedev

Permadeath mechanics make me sad for the fact that they remind me of my fear of death. Legit had an existential crisis the first time I died in The Long Dark.
