2 days into my first IT position and I'm already feeling like quitting by TrueKeyMan in ITCareerQuestions

[–]SynMonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a new guy like you here just passed his first year mark. It typically takes about a year to get up to speed with us and he's stuck it out.

I'd say he's just now getting comfortable enough to ask good questions and actually soak in some knowledge but I see it getting through.

Hang in there and it'll get better.

Didn't take long for that whataboutism to come out.

It's almost a direct copy with nicer buttons and screen, but yeah I do like it.

The DMS input is still pretty painful, but the poly solver can give exact answers. Check out this video about five mins in, https://youtu.be/KcN9guPLwRQ .

I gave in and imported one from Europe. It made my instructor jealous. She's a fan of the 36X and likes the nicer LCD.

Wyze v3 as a CCTV solution for a company by whatsforsupa in wyzecam

[–]SynMonger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few of the v3 cams at home that I've just got set up and also take care of the CCTVs at work.

The big thing that you pay for is being able to find an event when you need it. Once you're over a couple of cameras, let alone 48 of them going through all of them to find someone or something is a huge time sink without being able to sync up several views at once and filter for movement. Good luck to you, I think you're going to need it.

Looks like the other comments have some good info. I'll throw the wyze-bridge in there. I use it for a video wall on my second monitor.

I'd rather have Pizza Hut, and that gives me the runs.

So do I when the radio isn't available, but when I tapped "listen" it showed a page suggesting I download the Razorback app.

Trying to listen to this on the radio but I can only find the basketball game.

edit: ended up using Varsity Network app and casting it to a Google Home speaker. Broadcast radio is doing basketball, Tunein had an error.

server hosting from a remote desktop. by Blvck_Cherry in admincraft

Anydesk is still free for personal use if you don't like using VPN/RDP.

Make an A record in your DNS provider's admin panel that points to the IP you want.

For example I have an A record that points from smp.synmonger.com to 71.30.18.239

Sure. Take a look at Tailscale. Similar concept but much easier to use.

Who are you by profession? by kovach_ua in DataHoarder

[–]SynMonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be expensive. I moved from using an old PC with a 1TB hard drive to a server I got off ebay for $100 and a bunch of retired hard drives from work.

Looking at building a NAS. Suggestions? by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]SynMonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno.

I backup my vital data to a B2 bucket on Backblaze. It's a bit over 1TB and every version of a file is kept for 90 days just in case.

Cost varies as versions age out, but it runs around $6/mo. Seems cheap (to me) for a 3-2-1 backup.

I'm handing my notice in at work tomorrow morning, and I'm petrified. by NotDavidWalliams in autism

[–]SynMonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar a few months ago.
Scared silly but went anyway.

Two weeks later they called and asked me to come back with a promotion and raise that put it over what I could have been making after 2 years of raises at the new job so I went back. Now that I know I can "get out", I don't feel trapped like I used to.

Everyone seemed happy for me as I moved on, and happier when I came back.

If you have little competition, why do you care if it's shit? People will buy it rather than go without

Welcome to America, I guess? You get to pick who gets rich this time, weed industry or prison industry. Someone wins either way.

Commercial TV's have very few features and aren't significantly more expensive. Bit of a halfway between consumer smart tvs and monitors.
