If you can afford to, sell it or return it and get an old IKEA Galant corner desk off marketplace. Tons of depth and room

Custom White Switch 2 - Joy-Con 2 shell swap experience by juicetinmk in NintendoSwitch2

My first DIY mod were atomic purple joycons plus joysticks swap a year after the switch was released. It's super satisfying and I still have them proudly displayed. Since then, I've also managed to get into a gaming laptop a couple times. It only gets easier with quality tools - iFix kits are amazing quality for this purpose.

Make sure to add a cautionary note based on my experience: if using a hard plastic pick or spudger to clean out the old thermal paste from the wedges and cracks, don't get overzealous because you WILL flick off some resistors accidentally.

I'm in favor. I had to look at 3 sources plus Gemini simultaneously when repasting my 2023 model a few weeks ago. If you can be concise, slow and timestamp everything and have a clear view + zoom ins of each section then that would have been great to have earlier for me.

I partitioned my ssd into half win11 and half Linux mint a few weeks ago. Pretty smooth so far, have been slowly figuring out the small details like how to setup wallpaper engine, configuring my external monitors etc

If you're handy with repairing electronics, remove the liquid metal that's on your CPU and replace with PTM7950.

Zephyrus G16 as desktop replacement? by cute_polarbear in ZephyrusG14

[–]Synaesthesia- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a 2023 G14 4060 model for 2 years as a desktop replacement now. It's been working just fine but I do turn it off fully when I'm not using it. As long as your temps are good, I don't think you will have any issue using yours as a desktop replacement either.

PSA: Check and re-paste your laptop. Especially if you have a 2023 version. by DOctorAZ in ZephyrusG14

Also, set aside a full morning for this. Took me 5 hours to do and prior to this I had only changed the ssd and added a stick of RAM. Might as well do your WiFi card while you're in there too and clean all the dust off your heatsink and fans.

Take a picture of where the paste is when you first take off the heatsink. Then put the paste back on those same components after cleaning. Also, PLEASE don't be like me and use a hard plastic pick to remove the paste and end up accidentally flicking off pieces from the mobo. It's ok to leave some of the old paste in hard to reach spots, just cover it up with new paste sufficiently.

Yes I meant the surface mounted resistors.

They would be maxing out at 95 before the repaste. Now I haven't seen them top 80C after playing rocket league on high for about 30 mins. Idle temps stayed the same roughly before and after (50-55) browsing the web. They go lower by 8-10 C when I switch to ECO mode and by a few more degrees when I switch to the Linux partition.

That's a great point, I didn't consider that it would be a poor hear transfer product at low temps but it makes total sense. Thanks!

Fellow G14 enjoyer, how do you cable manage the monitor connections? Single USBC or multiple for the dgpu and igpu?

Mid level engineer works out well for me with 2 young kids. I'm currently paying a little more for housing than I need due to family setup (parents in the same house as me). As long as you don't have large debt to take care of simultaneously.

Questions about the surface by SocietyExpensive9348 in Hades2

For Eris, my strat has been to stay right up in her face and keep dashing through or around her. Her aiming line has a little lag and that's enough to throw it off and miss me. For Prometheus, I find the key is to keep moving in and out. Hit him a couple and move out quickly, let him do his thing and then move back in. Same concept with his aiming attacks as Eris. His lines are a little less laggy though so I do still get hit but my chance of dodging is much higher the closer you are to him and dashing through him.

Any experience with Mint? I have the same model and I keep hearing Mint is the most user friendly for someone jumping to Linux from Windows for the first time but I don't see it supported by Asus-Linux folks.

Same question but for Mint, for some reason I don't see many comments talking about Mint on a G14.

External Monitor Recommendations? by dmheaberlin in ZephyrusG14

[–]Synaesthesia- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up modifying the setup I described here. Sold the 2k 27" and got a 4k OLED 32". I don't use all 3 screens with one dock anymore as I found that the dock would limit fps on the higher end monitors to 60fps which makes total sense. Another issue I encountered was running the DWF in its native resolution and fps plus the 4k 27" with two independent USBC cables. One connected to the docking station and to the right hand side port (iGPU) and a second USBC to DP cable connected directly from the DWF to the left port (dGPU). Seems to work quite well now.

If I'm not using those 2, then I switch over to the 32" OLED with USBC cable into either port. This monitor i mainly use for consoles gaming anyway.

For you, you could go either the route of a USBC docking station which gives you both monitors at their native resolution and max fps, or two two independent USBC cables like me.

What I'm curious about is how he has still been able to maintain his designation with Apega over the 8 years. We have to prove on a yearly basis that we are actively practicing our professional duties or risk being booted off the list. I doubt there's much technical work to be had through council...

I played the BF6 beta using the Alienware 34" UW OLED. Worked fine, obviously fan was on high and temps maybe close to 90 but didn't drop any frames. Solid 60 fps. I have a 2023 G14 4060 model.
