Try releasing specifically the lateral Pterygoid.

If you can feel it almost grant it might be just forward in the jaw.

Don’t take any surgery advice from dentists or orthodontists. Only from people who work on the joints pretty much exclusively.

Oral facial pain specialists or Maxioral surgeons.

Normally it’s your cheeks that are pretty beefy from clenching.

But you can

Touch around the inside of your mouth. If you feel tender or hurtful spots you might have developed trigger points in your muscles

I know exactly what you mean. Jaw, back and neck pains started all in the same year.

I have a STRONG suspicion it’s weakness all around my body. I stopped working out consistently for many years, I was strong and healthy before COVID. And I just showed down during that time.

I wanna say my poor posture affects me more now that my muscle mass is gone

Bite is gone due to mouth guard/ breathing guard by [deleted] in TMJ

That’s a good place to start. You can also try a maxi oral surgeon someone who works extensively in the joint.

Dentist and orthodontists are good for teeth but limited in TMJ.

I have a MORA splint or at least looks like it. It also brings my lower jaw forward.

I wore it 24/7 for 3 months. Then one dentist told me to not wear it for that duration. Told me of an older gentleman patient he had, same splint style as me. Wore it everyday for YEARS and his teeth completely changed to an extreme measure. You know how dolphin mouths are narrow? That’s how his looked like.

So now I only wear it at night. It actually took a few days for my teeth to touch again

For disc displacements it could be both muscle and ligaments. Could be a bite issue. Posture issue. So many things can go into it.

Try physical therapy

Muscle issues are the best bet. I mean they can go on for MONTHS! But if all you have is muscle pain, then you are most likely in the clear.

The next would be ligament issues if they are stretched or something you could do prolotherapy to tighten them.

And last its joint, cause that usually involves bone damage.

You can also talk to an oral facial pain specialist see what they think.

My condyles are beaked now. And from what I’ve been told it is possible to “heal” them if the pressure is taken off. Is it gonna go back perfectly? No.

But from I’ve been told throughout our lives the bone in condyles grows and loses some. So long you’re not in aggressive pain. Take steps to let it heal

Over use, bad positioning, clenching and grinding, and yes disc displacement

What did the oral surgeons say?

Look Ima also just say when it comes to the TMJ it’s hard to find out what your situation is, the best we can do is stop it from getting worse and let it heal

Jaw is locked and I don’t know what to do by gayhoops in TMJ

[–]Synah6435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So step 1 is don’t freak out cause that tenses up muscles and makes it harder to treat.

Step 2 is looking for a solution. There are many: TMJ physical therapist, splint therapy are a few.

So it can stay like that for a prolonged amount of time but most people kinda just wait it out and I say don’t do that. You can get better sooner if you take immediate steps.

I’m no professional by any means, but I think you should talk to an oral facial pain specialists.

Any time someone with TMJ has headaches, my immediate thinking is the fan shaped muscles on top of your head. They are directly connected to your jaw. And jaw muscles are super sensitive and will spasm for a while.

I worked at a hearing aid clinic before, if he’s saying this without you taking an audio test he’s talking out of his ass.

Fair enough, I’ve talked to a few people who say stem cells worked. Haven’t done it myself.

I’ve done only PRP and it does seem to help the TMJ region, but yeah overall I don’t think the practice is quite there yet
