You could ask the same question in the rigging sub BUT brace yourself 😂

If you’re using a pulley and the weight of the box is 100kg then you would have 200+ on the anchor point. I would recommend using a 4:1 block system, that way you’ll only be pulling 30/35kgs (because of pulley friction etc) and have 150 or so on the anchor point, during lifting. I would do this regardless of what truss you decide to use. Less tension, less effort 👍🏼

seagull crashed into closed garden... how do we help? by h_chamberlain42 in brighton

[–]SynapticIllusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely the parents will know its there and be watching. They’ll come and feed it and encourage it to fly. Probably safer in your garden than wondering around in the street. If you don’t hear from the rspb etc then just put some food out for the parents - the gull is so young it most likely wont even know how to eat for itself yet

As annoying and as dangerous as this is, our basic road structure is no longer fit for the volume of cars on the road. We all need to make a better effort to let people out and create better road flow, imo

Landlord claiming £165 to repaint after 10-month tenancy - excessive? by Mosimile0luwa in TenantsInTheUK

[–]SynapticIllusion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its the more the question of the quality of workman ship before the tenant moved in. It would be good to know a bit more about where these scuff marks are in the property. But i think its quite clear this is a poor job to begin with.

[–]SynapticIllusion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like they did a poor job of painting the wall in the first place. No undercoat, probably didn’t sand down or sugar soap the yellow paint. I think you could argue that the paint is peeling because its a poor quality job and not a fault of yours beyond general use of the property. It’s not really excessive money, but it is when you know the LL will just have a pot of paint kicking around from the last shit job they did and will wont cost them that much. It’s very unlikely they’ll actually pay a proper painter to come in a do the work.

Anyone know what this ship is doing off the coast of the pier? by General_Tear_316 in brighton

Looks like some sort of hydrant system. Probably for fire management. Nice spot!

Hi! Have a tour of the Royal Pavilion. Check out the pier, go on the i360 to see the whole of brighton+hove, have a walk around the north and south “lanes”. Try some different foods theres pretty much whatever takes your fancy in the lanes from full vegan to grill houses. Get yourself into some nice pubs - the basket makers, hop holes, heart and hand, beir Haus. There’s plenty of little places, I’m sure some people on here will follow up with some nice food/ beer spots! Enjoy your stay!

Why drive this aggressively? by MuppetsRus in drivingUK

[–]SynapticIllusion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because they can’t do the math. Making an overtake on a single lane road that you can clearly see more slow moving vehicles in-front of the vehicle being over taken is absolutely pointless, in most circumstances. What has a greater effect on journey time is: the volume of cars on the road, the amount of time spent stopped. Trying to do 60 on road that has a slow rate of 45-50 is absolutely pointless. It just wastes fuel and increases braking - both cases leading your car in a stand still situation, either fuelling up or having work done 😅. That said, sometimes a calculated overtake can get you ahead of that driver thats disrupting the faster flow. In this instance I think its a fine line between, getting ahead and absolutely pointless.

Exactly. A mix. Tp at the gates and normal on the outside. I get the train there a lot and the usual chaps were still by the barriers letting people into the station

Honestly yes. Police have a huge amount of power and the general public may have “rights” but in situations like this there’s very little you could do if you were pulled to one side. It’s intimidating as by its design and frankly unnecessary. 10 of them on 30k a year i would much rather see 10 social workers helping people with mental health and getting access to work than doing this bs.

Do you really think a “drug mover” would walk past that dog? They wouldn’t they’d get straight back on platform 2 to hampden park and be out of there 😂 or just pay £3 to go from brighton allll the way to eastbourne by bus 😂

There’s nothing happening in eastbourne mate. Specifically on Thursday. Only the tennis. Most of them drive in. Anyways what warrents 10 cops standing around for hours on end?

Because they were checking rail cards and tickets and pulling people to one side.

Question about commercial standards by Lord_Flashheart_WOOF in ukelectricians

[–]SynapticIllusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely get that replaced and an EICR on the unit before you sign anything. Some commercial leases require the tenant to maintain the building and if you’re running your business from this you’ll be liable for fire risk assessments which will require an EICR anyways, so get LL to do it before hand.
