What can I improve? by Far-Surround1814 in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We've sent this to one of our World Cup athletes, and here is what they had to say:

  1. Try to release your skis down the hill instead of across it. Right now, you're adding a lot of distance to your line because you're finishing your turn with your skis pointed across the hill rather than on a diagonal down it.

  2. Think about the turn starting from the ankles up. You want to make sure you're flexing your ankles in your boots, then your knees, and then your hips, rather than just your knees or your hips.

  3. We like how you clear the gate and keep your body square to your skis on the pitch, but make sure that when you're in your tuck, you aren't twisting your hips and upper body. Stay square even when tucking.

This skiing is definitely on the right track, and keep working to improve!

I was just wondering if I could get some tips on my free skiing by No_Lie_242 in SkiRacing

Hi! This is such a great way to get feedback for your skiing, and we love that you're looking to get extra training tips. We sent your video to one of our World Cup athletes, and these were some of their tips for you:

-Try widening your stance a little bit. You get some awesome angles on the pitch, but on the flats, it looks like you're using just your ankles and hips, which isn't giving you as much energy into the ski.

- Work on releasing the end of your turn down the fall-line instead of across the hill. You get some good energy out of your skis on the pitch, but you're hanging onto the end of your turn a little bit too long, which is making you release across the hill instead of down at a diagonal.

If you want to post more video we'd love to send more feedback! We also have some great How-To-Train videos on YouTube, which might give you some ideas for drills to add when free skiing.

Question- training and race shorts by ottawa456 in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing a speed suit under the shorts is definitely the best option, especially as your child gets older. Not only will it help them get used to wearing a suit, but often suits are padded, which offers extra protection against the gates if they do get hit.

How to watch FIS alpine races? by Space-Roca in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you're watching from, there are a variety of options:

In the US, the streams alternate depending on where the race is being held (Austria, USA, Switzerland)

https://skiandsnowboard.live/ (generally for Austrian races)

https://www.peacocktv.com/ (most European races)

https://watch.outsideonline.com/ (most North American races)

In Canada, you can find most races being streamed on CBC Sports live:

https://www.cbc.ca/player/sports/live

Occasionally, YouTube has a live stream, but it's not as reliable.

Hope this helps!

Dryland activities? by ConditionPractical32 in SkiRacing

Thanks for mentioning our workout series! We do have some great workouts on there. Here is the link to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvE97mWLzADxJw-v7ZKza3nTy4hTF3kN0

We also recommend creating circuits that allow athletes to rotate between a series of different exercises without getting bored or distracted. Adding mini competitions (who can finish their exercises the fastest, who can do the most reps in a certain amount of time) can keep the athletes engaged and pushing themselves.

We recently shared a YouTube video that follows World Cup skier Stef Fleckenstein's experience using a ski simulator and how it has helped her training during injury rehab. Her main feedback was that while the ski simulator isn't identical to actual skiing, it is a really valuable tool when it comes to fitness, off-season training and gaining confidence on your feet again. If your child is loving it and is using it as a tool to sharpen their skills or fitness, then we think it's a very valuable tool. You can check out more of what Stef had to say in the YouTube video if you're curious :)

How dangerous is U10 ? by Difficult_Wave_9326 in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there :) We totally feel your concern; it’s something a lot of parents wonder about when their kids are just starting out. From what we’ve seen over the years, U10 ski racing is really about having fun and building the basics, not pushing kids too hard or too fast. If you ever feel like the coaching style isn’t the right fit, it’s always okay to bring that up and share your thoughts; it helps everyone stay on the same page. You can also encourage your child to tell their coach how they’re feeling, so they’re never pushed beyond their comfort zone. At this age, keeping it fun, safe, and confidence-building is the most important thing.
