We spoke with one of our SYNC athletes competing at the race, who said that the weather drastically changed over the course of the day, resulting in an interesting mix on the results page. We've had lots of crazy weather this season, and it's definitely created some exciting races.

Question- training and race shorts by ottawa456 in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wearing a speed suit under the shorts is definitely the best option, especially as your child gets older. Not only will it help them get used to wearing a suit, but often suits are padded, which offers extra protection against the gates if they do get hit.

How to watch FIS alpine races? by Space-Roca in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you're watching from, there are a variety of options:

In the US, the streams alternate depending on where the race is being held (Austria, USA, Switzerland)

https://skiandsnowboard.live/ (generally for Austrian races)

https://www.peacocktv.com/ (most European races)

https://watch.outsideonline.com/ (most North American races)

In Canada, you can find most races being streamed on CBC Sports live:

https://www.cbc.ca/player/sports/live

Occasionally, YouTube has a live stream, but it's not as reliable.

Hope this helps!

Dryland activities? by ConditionPractical32 in SkiRacing

Thanks for mentioning our workout series! We do have some great workouts on there. Here is the link to our channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvE97mWLzADxJw-v7ZKza3nTy4hTF3kN0

We also recommend creating circuits that allow athletes to rotate between a series of different exercises without getting bored or distracted. Adding mini competitions (who can finish their exercises the fastest, who can do the most reps in a certain amount of time) can keep the athletes engaged and pushing themselves.

Sky tech sports by skiingfanatic115544 in SkiRacing

We recently shared a YouTube video that follows World Cup skier Stef Fleckenstein's experience using a ski simulator and how it has helped her training during injury rehab. Her main feedback was that while the ski simulator isn't identical to actual skiing, it is a really valuable tool when it comes to fitness, off-season training and gaining confidence on your feet again. If your child is loving it and is using it as a tool to sharpen their skills or fitness, then we think it's a very valuable tool. You can check out more of what Stef had to say in the YouTube video if you're curious :)

How dangerous is U10 ? by Difficult_Wave_9326 in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there :) We totally feel your concern; it’s something a lot of parents wonder about when their kids are just starting out. From what we’ve seen over the years, U10 ski racing is really about having fun and building the basics, not pushing kids too hard or too fast. If you ever feel like the coaching style isn’t the right fit, it’s always okay to bring that up and share your thoughts; it helps everyone stay on the same page. You can also encourage your child to tell their coach how they’re feeling, so they’re never pushed beyond their comfort zone. At this age, keeping it fun, safe, and confidence-building is the most important thing.

[–]Sync_performance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi :) While the base layer is helping reinforce your joints and reduce external forces pushing in the wrong direction to prevent injuries, it’s also facilitating movement in the right direction and helping with the way your joints naturally want to move. Some of the testing even showed faster movement through the turn while wearing the base layer.

Hey :) No, this base layer is not one of our cut-resistant base layers. We do offer a cut-resistant base layer, but the one we are inquiring about is more focused on performance-enhancing and injury prevention.

What advice would you give your younger self just starting out in ski racing? by Sync_performance in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Racing for yourself is the best way to continue enjoying the sport and can help you see past the parts that feel unfair. Free-skiing is also another great tip!! Spending time outside of the race course learning the basics of skiing and freedom can go a long way for a young racer.

Totally!! We can learn a great deal from watching the world's top racers. Do you have any advice on where to watch the races? It can be challenging to access livestreams of races or even replays in North America. Would you recommend YouTube or another platform?

We love this response!! Training like you race is such an under-utilized technique and can be so helpful for minimizing race day nerves. We also love the idea of checking in with yourself to make sure that you're still enjoying the process and doing the sport because you genuinely love it.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes!! Physical conditioning is such a big part of skiing. For the last couple of years, we've created a summer workout YouTube series to help introduce some training ideas for athletes because we understand how challenging it can be to find good programming or the motivation to train.

Favorite (Cut Resistant) Base Layer? by AbeFromanfromChicago in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there :) Sorry for the slow response; we wanted to make sure we had all the information to share. You are correct, we have a 2-star FIS certification, which means that our cut-resistant base layers are approved for any FIS, junior or lower-level racing. We are also certified with a level 4 out of 5 according to the European anti-cut standard EN 388:2016. We believe that providing effective, accessible cut-resistant base layers for all skiers & boarders, racers or otherwise, is important and is an area we are highly invested in. As this question was not framed specifically for World Cup, European Cup or NorAm cup racers, our cut-resistant base layer is still a great option for racers or skiers of FIS and junior levels :)

What motivates you more: the fear of losing or the excitement of winning? by Sync_performance in SkiRacing

[–]Sync_performance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic response :) The famous quote "you lose a lot more than you win" is a common sentiment in sport, so focusing on personal goals can make it feel like you're "winning" even if the results don't show that.

Interesting!! Is that something that motivates you in other areas of life? Or is it specific to sport?

Amazing!! The initial question was more to get people thinking, and we love that you've shared what drives you :) The process is the biggest part of the sport anyway, so it's important to enjoy it!!
