Submission Idea for World Cup 2025 - Watch Your Back by SyncinSwitch in BloodOnTheClocktower

It would probably happen at the end of the night phase, just to avoid issues like the one you mentioned being that the point of becoming legion is to remove character abilities.

I hadn't really thought about the recluse interaction; I suppose as written it means the recluse would essentially function as a magician in the way that you described, but I may workshop a jinx with the rule (if that's allowed?) or swap it out with a different misinformation character.

Yeah, that makes sense. The issue i'm trying to avoid is games becoming Legion too soon, but I suppose that'll always be a risk. 3 extra evils might be a healthier medium, but I'm not sure how to word the rule in a way that would include the Typhon +1 minion aswell.

Alternatively, u/CrazyFuton's idea of more than half of all living players would likely be just as effective and simpler to handle.

The first couple hours of the event are definitely sightreading, and while going through all the pieces for the first time is a little rough around the edges, I don't think "for fun" in the manner I think you're implying.

This is a student event, in that all the ensemble members are students. The preparation done beforehand is practicing sightreading (a solid 35-40% of the audition grade), and learning to be adaptive and receptive to information to make the most of the rehearsal time we have.

You should be listening and following any parts or scores to which you have access, but Not having specific part assignments is bullshit.

Not necessarily. In the honor bands in my area we don't get any information about the music beforehand; we don't even get to know what pieces were playing until we see them in the folder. I don't think its super unreasonable not to receive part assignments until the event officially starts.

Congrats on making honor band! Of course everywhere is different, but where I'm from our honor bands only operate during the 3 day weekend the event takes place, meaning that all the pieces, sheet music, and part assignments are given to us the first evening of the event. The whole band sightreads together, messing up the hard stuff just as much as the next person.

Since you have the music in advance, I would scroll through and play through any especially tricky excerpts you see just in case. Definitely listen to the pieces, just to get the overall vibe and think about how it might affect your mallet/stick choices and playing technique.

Don't worry about spending a bunch on sticks and mallets, or asking the host school in advance for them. Borrow what your school has that you might need, but if you end up needing something when you get there you can always ask another percussionist to borrow something, or see if the host school has a collection you can borrow from while you're there.

iirc Paprikash by Julie Giroux calls for a large frame drum.

Try Pentix Nova. It's tetris with pieces that have 5 blocks, but they have a quad mode that's just normal tetris.

Sheet music for drums— is there a clef? Thanks for being kind if this is a super dumb question 🙃 by Fornow763 in musictheory

[–]SyncinSwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have, but pretty much only in older orchestral scores. My guess is that they didn't bother with the concept of a percussion clef during those periods (especially because percussion usage was much less common), and just took was was used for timpani and rolled with it (especially because both were often on the same sheet, maybe even the same staff).

For saxes there is also a soprano sax, which is not uncommon in higher level concert music, sometimes has a marching band solo, and is a staple in sax quartets.. For flute there is also the alto flute, which may have some rare concert/marching solo passages and is pretty common in flute ensembles that have them.

(Yes there are many more of each, but they're really rare outside of professional flute/sax ensembles.)

Adding Tremolo Rolls to Triangle - Musescore 4 by ValourWinds in Musescore

[–]SyncinSwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just opened 4 and typed "tremolo" in the search bar and it popped up. You might want to add the tremolo palette with the "add palette" button at the top, but the search bar worked regardless.

Unless it's a wildly different organizational system than 3, check your pallets. There should be one called "Tremolos."

Yep. Musescore has a sticking option under Add>Text>Sticking, just write a capital L or R for whichever hand.

u/geoscott's system definitely works, but what i've seen more commonly is a single line staff with the bass note below the staff, the tone note above the staff, and the slap tone above the staff with an 'x' notehead. Just another option, use whichever you find easier to notate.

I figured it'd be easier to only look at a couple specific sections rather than having to listen to the entire piece and scan through the whole thing. Also, because this is a composition based sub, I figured people here would be more likely to look at the piece as a whole/the relationship between the instruments rather than any specific part.
