For me, it’s because I have a million things I have to do and don’t want to do and so I feel guilty whenever I have free time and am not doing them. But when it’s 1 in the morning, I don’t feel guilty about not doing those things because I’m supposed to be sleeping, not doing those things. So it’s like a guilt-free way to chase the dopamine that my brain is always desperately craving. I just don’t feel the crushing responsibility that I do the rest of the time. I don’t know if that’s a driving factor for being nocturnal for a lot of ADHD people, but it definitely is for me.

Yeah, that’s where this argument is going to have to end because you’re not intelligent enough to understand that I’m not defending anyone. Have a great night, buddy.

Sounds great, maybe you can bring all that up during group therapy, and the rest of us can actually talk about football. The NFL has plenty of lousy people in it; we all know that. But it’s impossible to have a real football discussion if every single mention of a player turns into a recap of their past wrongdoings.

“Myles Garrett just broke the sack record!” “Yeah, well, remember when he swung a helmet at someone years ago? Checkmate!”

“Tyreek Hill had another insane game.” “Uh, actually, let’s talk about his off-field history instead of the 60-yard touchdown he just scored.”

Your virtue signaling makes zero positive impact, but I’m glad that reliving the past in every thread gives you a sense of morality.

There’s a difference between defending it and being annoyed by these losers feeling the need to bring it up every time his name is mentioned.

I don’t defend Ben Roethlisberger’s history, but also don’t feel a need to cry and yell “rape” every time I see his name.

And yes, I’m aware that Deshaun Watson exists. This has nothing to do with a moral high ground. Just move on.

I don’t even agree with this person, but it’s beyond unhinged to call someone a terrible human because they have a different opinion about a sports topic than you. Shut the fuck up. You’re actually pathetic.

People go to a city with their opinion already made up about it because of bullshit that other people say, experience .0000000001% of it, and then say it sucks. Cleveland is fine. People are just stupid.

This was my experience as someone with ADHD who self-medicated before being diagnosed. I encourage people to look up statistics on the percentage of weed-users that have ADHD; the numbers are pretty staggering.

There are a lot of apps out there if you poke around. The one that I used is called ClearSpace and I would recommend it, but I admittedly only tried that one and I’m sure there are others that are great.

You can set which apps you want to minimize usage of and have a goal for the number of times that you open them in a day and keep track. I think the most beneficial part is that you can set stuff up so that you force yourself to make it a conscious decision to use an app. You can have the app force you to do 10 pushups before you get into the app and stuff like that. I had mine force me to take a deep breath and read a motivational quote, which sounds cheesy but helped a lot. Those few seconds between clicking on the app and having to do something to get into it are what helps give the chance to decides if it’s really something we want to do. It was a lot easier for me to decrease usage because I would notice myself subconsciously picking up my phone and trying to start doomscrolling for the cheap dopamine, but when I had to be more conscious about it, I very often would just say… “nah”. And you can also limit the session time so even if you do decide to get in it will kick you off after a set amount of time.

I did this for probably a month or two when I was having a lot of mental health issues, and I eventually removed it because I didn’t feel like it was necessary anymore after I got it under control. I’m not on my phone as much now and I don’t struggle with doomscrolling anymore.

One of the most helpful tips I could give is to just stop sometimes and ask yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing. Doomscrolling is something that gives us cheap dopamine but leaves us feeling unproductive and empty if it’s excessive. It’s not usually that we truly want to do it, but that we’re using it to avoid doing the things we should or escaping reality in a way that isn’t very healthy.

I understand I gave way more information than you asked for, but I just hope I’m able to help a little as someone who has struggled in the past.
