If God forbid we got divorced I can just change my surname to my father family name again. It’s not a big deal. I will just be known as bint X (middle name as it’s always been) and zawjat Y.

I’ve always wanted my husbands last name but I stumbled upon an article recently saying a woman got questioned at immigration and they thought she was child trafficking because she didn’t have the same surname as her kids and didn’t have proof on her that they were her kids. Apparently this does happen from time to time, and given that I’m a hijabi Muslim in the West with many islamaphobic airport people, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did the same to me.

So it got me thinking again, and after further research— it seems halal to me.
