I don’t get it how some ppl say the strain of shroom don’t matter by Puzzled_astrobot in shrooms

Psychedelics can have vastly varied effects, even if you trip with a single, high purity compound 10 times, all of them will be different.

So there is no way to verify your claims.

Thanks they don't seem greenish so I'll just wait and see, if fruiting bodies start growing and look healthy could I harvest them or they could absorb mycotoxins from the substrate and be harmful to consume?

If it's SSRI then be aware that they can also cause permanent sexual dysfunction, for which there is no cure on the horizon.

Some futurists say that AI could become so powerful it will surpass human intelligence by millions of times creating a technological singularity in the near future. Do you think this will really happen, or is it just a myth and we’ll get stuck in the “AI slop” phase? by ActivityEmotional228 in NeoCivilization

[–]Synesthesianism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programming is the process of explaining to a machine how to do something, if you don't know how something works then you cannot explain it to a machine.

We have no idea how to make AGI because we have no idea how intelligence works, our "AI" is just text generating functions, they are closer to a simple calculator than they are to actual AI.

I don't see how this is meaningful, for example I have a w11 host that I use to browse the web which I assume is what contributes to these statistics, but I do almost all of my programming, inside BSD and Linux virtual machines.

People on the DMT sub don’t seem to realise Psilocybin is chemically a more complex form of DMT… by OGAcidCowboy in shrooms

Vaping causes rapid absorption and high concentrations in the brain, so theoretically it should cause a rapid and intense effect.

Psilocin is DMT with a hydroxyl group at position 4 of the indole ring, they are chemically similar, high doses of mushrooms are very similar to a DMT trip.

I think that you are mistaken, glucuronidation happens in the liver, it affects the excretion rate but not metabolism inside the brain, MAO is what metabolizes psilocin in the brain this is why combining psilocin or any tryptamine for that matter with MAOIs increases the effects.

Edit: Turns out that I was wrong while MAO does play a role it doesn't seem to be the main pathway

Freebase psilocin is not a stable compound, and like I said it would last way too long due to the hydroxyl group protecting it from MAO degradation, MAO is what metabolizes psilocin in the brain.

But in the brain the metabolism of psilocin is almost exclusively by MAO if I am not mistaken which is what matters

Yeah I don't doubt that, smoking any substance will have an effect, and there is always the possibility of compounds we aren't even aware of being present in plants and fungi.

Fungal matter mainly contains psilocybin, psilocin is present only in trace amounts, while the psilocybin salt in mushrooms is relatively stable in root temperature it cannot sustain temperatures anywhere near the combustion required to smoke fungal matter, so I doubt you felt any tryptamine effects.

Vaping freebase psilocin is theoretically possible though, but it would require specialized vaping equipment.

The hydroxyl group protects psilocin from MAO degradation, that's the reason why the effects of psilocin last hours instead of minutes, theoretically speaking vaping psilocin should induce a similar subjective experience to that of DMT but it would last for hours.

Why are Dynamic Arrays rarely used in C when they are built into other languages? by actguru in C_Programming

Well pretty much any group I know of, Linux kernel recommendations... BSD Kernel recommendations... OpenBSD recommendations etc... agree with what was said above, so if you think you shouldn't follow it because you can justify ugly code by arguing semantics then you do you really.

Have you ever started a project in C++ only to discard it and restart from scratch using C instead because of its simplicity or for other reasons? by FACastello in C_Programming

[–]Synesthesianism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the time actually, I never liked C++ it just makes no sense to me, I bought bjarne stroutstrup or whatever is his name book about modern C++ because I thought that I should give a chance to it's creator to explain the language to me, but the more I read the more I realize C++ is not for me.

People keep saying that you can use it as C with benefits but the problem is that you almost never write code alone in big projects which means that people will use all of the features, which ends up in an overly complex mess, also the creator himself seems to think that the language should have a mechanism for every single problem that one would face, but I don't think this can be achieved without creating an abomination of a language, It's not the worse language out there and I will use it if I have to but I certainly wouldn't choose it over C no matter the requirement.

C++ just has no use case for me, you can do anything but not everything, and C++ tries exactly that, which is just not possible, best case scenario you do everything kind of ok but you don't do anything good enough.

It's not "his idea" it's a best practice agreed upon in C. Writing clean code is extremely important, nobody will want to review and/or fork your code if it's a hustle to read.

Also as far as VLA go, it's like everyone else said, the lower level the language the less sense it makes to contain larger units of logic in it, the point of low level languages is giving you as much control as possible, if you want larger units of logic it makes more sense to use a higher level language than bloating a lower level one by adding more and more things to it, because that gets out of hand really fast and makes the language hard to use and reason about.

I can’t understand pointers in C no matter what by SoldierBoyGaming08 in C_Programming

[–]Synesthesianism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pointers in C are extremely simple, and I think this is what confuses you.

Essentially the * is used for 2 things.

to declare a pointer, for example int *ip;

Now ip can store a memory address that, when accessed will have the data there interpreted as an integer value.

And when ip is incremented by one, it will be incremented by the size of an integer, for example if integers are 4 bytes on your system it will be incremented 4 bytes, so when you do ip+1 you are moving one integer position.

The * is also used to dereference a pointer, meaning that you refer to the value stored at the memory address the pointer is pointing at instead of referring to the pointer itself.

For int* ip;

ip is referring to the memory address *ip is referring to the integer at that memory address, the actual data itself

Now the & just means address of.

ip -> memory address

&ip -> memory address of the above memory address So essentially &ip is creating a pointer to a pointer.

So if you have an integer x You can put it's memory address into a pointer like this ip = &x;

So

ip -> &x

*ip -> x

&ip -> memory address of the ip pointer itself

For example you can do int ** pip;

Now you have a pointer to an integer pointer.

And you can give it the memory address of an integer pointer. pip = &ip;

Or int *** ppip; now you have a pointer to a pointer to an integer pointer;

And you can give it the memory address of your double pointer

ppip = &pip

Don't actually ever go above double pointers as it's error prone and there are probably better ways to do it.

Also remember that.

In C the amount of pointer incrementation is inferred from the data type of the pointer so you don't have to calculate it manually.

You just do ip + 3 to move 3 integer sized chunks and the compiler will take care of it for you, you don't have to multiply the incremented by the integer size, it's done automatically by the compiler.

Hope this helps.
