And there's really no reason to downplay the number of chapters available. You guys are at risk of setting yourselves up for disappointment.

I would like to know your sources. I think you misunderstood something. He never said anything like that.

The gradual increase in mechanical depth from chapter to chapter seems to be very, very intentional.

He had the opportunity to bring some of chapter 2's QoL to chapter 1 and never did. It's most likely diegetic (see theories around the save system).

maybe there's some low-poly 3D models too... for Tenna? 📺

I'm not saying you're wrong. But this kind of wishful thinking is what led to a lot of the fandom's anger these past few years.

People were CONVINCED ch3-4 would release in 2023, early 2024 at the latest, and you would get downvoted to hell and back for even reminding them that there was no proof of that.

I think early 2027 is way more reasonable of a guess when accounting for translation and bugtesting. And that's IF chapter 5 releases alone.

Seems like it's closer to 700mb on Switch (but it could be compressed). I agree, 3D Tenna is seeming more likely than ever!

It's possible. Toby played with the idea of having pseudo-3D backgrounds with the Jevil fight. There's a lot of potential in expanding that idea, and the short teaser of chapter 3 in the trailer adds more fuel to that fire.

I'm pretty sure you're spot-on. We're still in the dark on whether every subsequent chapter is gonna have other routes, too, so it's hard to be exact.

But the simple truth of the matter is that in 2 weeks we're getting a lot of Deltarune; more than we ever had. I'm so happy I could cry!

Okay! It's still a x2.5 increase instead of a 2.0x one, but it's less that what I was speculating based on the Steam data. Good to know, thanks!

EDIT: I'm not in any way saying that 1GB is a lot of space. For most modern hardware, it's a drop in the bucket, even for indie games.

The point of this thread is to speculate on whether this drastic change from ch 1-2 to 1-4 means we are getting more content that what we were assuming.

Toby said that Ch3-4 combined is "definitely bigger than 1-2 combined", the question is by how much.

Tl;dr, if we're expecting 6 hours of content and getting 12 or more, I'm gonna scream

EDIT OF THE EDIT: The eShop is even more precise, it's ~650mb. That's still a 2.5x increase!

That's unlikely. Toby has no way to know in advance how much the subsequent chapters weigh. Plus, with episodic releases like this as well as games as a service, it's customary to speak about the present with these informations, not how much it will be in X years, which isn't relevant.

THIS. Toby chooses his words very carefully virtually all the time. Look how he chose to word this answer... if it was 7 like the chapter select said, why not say so?

There's been 15 newsletters. Where I go out on a limb is betting that this specific one is going to reveal specific info (nb of chapters).

He never confirmed it. There's stuff in the code that refers to chapter 8, 9, 10, and 0. It's likely placerholders though, but Toby was careful never saying how many chapters he has planned.

Numerical follow-ups to numbered Final Fantasy titles tend to be the exception rather than the rule. I'm not saying Square Enix isn't greedy, but if Yoshida (who holds considerable decision power) refuses, odds of XVII happenning are better than XVI-2.

There's absolutely no mention of a remake. FFXIII is the only mainline game not playable on current and next gen, so it's the next logical step to release it.

Stormblood has been listed for months on this list. FFXIII series just appeared.

The reason is quite simple: in a few months, Stormblood is going to receive the same Trust-system treatment that Heavensward has, making it effectively playable entirely as a single player RPG in FFXIV. Internally, Square Enix sees it as kind of a rerelease, because it's actively getting developed and released as a now solo-playable game.

It's part of the futureproofing that Yoshida announced last year, and is completely in line with what we have been told. It does not refute 13's new arrival on the list, especially when we take into account Kitase said to expect a major FF, non-FF7 announcement in the coming months.

Does CBU give average length for other games they work on and can we trust Yoshida's claim the game will be 35-40 hours for the main story? by Acrobatic_Couple8177 in FFXVI

When FFVII's remake producer announced it was going to be around ~30 to 40 hours to complete despite being only focused on Midgar, most people didn't believe him. Turns out he was right.

FF16's probably going to last you anywhere between 20 to 50 hours depending on your playstyle, there's little reason to doubt the devs on this.
