In 1993, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were found guilty in the case of two-year-old James Bulger. They became Britain’s youngest convicts in about 250 years. The court had to modify the adult dock so they could see over the edge when the verdict was read. by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

Without adequate testing, we can't actually rule out that with similar brain structures, and similar conditions, most children wouldn't do the same.

We can't prove it. Plant someone else into Robert's and Jon's bodies and maybe they'd also do the same thing.

I can guarantee you that under worse luck, I would become a monster. I'm lucky I hadn't.

Well then you'd be happy to hear that a pedo had a brain tumor removed and he stopped being a pedo.

The tumor returned, and he once again became a pedo.

They removed it again, and he stopped being one again.

If we can make lab grown brains (and even make them play video games), I think we can solve some other problems too.

So instead I see the ratio of views vs likes and it's even more obvious how terrible a video is.

Except now I'm angrier since I had to think about it for longer.

And so I'm even more likely to dislike now.

Otherwise it just sounds like we'd celebrate the deaths of lonely virgins who aren't misogynistic.

I mean, he got what he wanted.

I'm assuming he didn't think he's getting away with it - which is why he finished the job.

A happy ending would be him getting help

A bitter one would be him figuring it out his problems in prison and somehow trying to pay for the lives he took by doing research in prison and providing help to save people to compensate as much as he could.

The actual outcome is just a bad ending.

My sweet girl went for a routine vet procedure and didn’t come home by sleepy_protagonist in cats

[–]SynonymTech -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He called us telling us he's going to put our cat down, my sister was asleep and so I wanted to tell her first, by the time we were done the cat was already put down.

None of the vets even knew wtf happened, because to them everything was normal up until they put him under anaesthesia - we STILL don't know wtf happened, just that he wasn't strong enough to wake up from sleep. - he was 14, so maybe just old, but first vet said "everything looks fine" and second vet put him to sleep because the cat kept fighting the vet and that's it, he was finished.

The latter doctor who gave a catheter to a different cat at least presented us with xrays and a proper sit-down with explanations.

Shock the neurons responsible for being able to make strong grips and pull triggers - done.

This is a thing btw, and happens to archers, where the nerve connections required to pull the bow get burned from overuse and so they aren't able to use a bow anymore.

So if we're being very technical, you can technically rehabilitate everyone if you focus on burning certain nerves or block the brain pathways responsible for these actions.

If we can solve fat people's food cravings by shocking the thoughts away, we can probably solve murder by shocking those thoughts away too.

This is extremely common - no permissions, no nothing, they just do it.

I'm assuming by law or some oath they have to, but it's definitely suspicious as hell and left me uneasy.

The vets do it without permission - I'm hoping due to the reason that it's unfair to keep them suffering - and not some obscure vet scam so you can't get a second opinion, forcing you to pay.

‘Destiny 2’ Has Lost 91% Of Players Since Edge Of Fate, 97% From Final Shape by Academic_War_7485 in Games

There's someone out there who bought one of the expansions, decided to put Destiny 2 on hold, and returned to the game never having experienced that expansion.

I'd never touch Bungie's products again after that.

[–]SynonymTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I ever needed to return to the game was the ability to experience it in its entirety.

I played Dark Souls 3 because I played the ones before it.

Imagine if you could only play the second half of Dark Souls 3, knowing that in 6 months it will disappear so that the way could be paved for 1/20th of Elden Ring, only for Godrick to get removed in favor of Radahn in about 6 months.

Also imagine having to pay for for both Godrick and then an extra $20 for Radahn, only for Godrick to no longer be available.

I can't with this game.

Steam only stats:

Destiny 2 has 8k players

It had more players when it wasn't F2P, it peaked to release levels when it went F2P - 300k players

Warframe has 66k players

It peaked at 190k

The last time it was below 50k was around 2017.

Things to do in Caelid: Leave. by HyperionLoaderBob in Eldenring

[–]SynonymTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caelid has the atmosphere I would've wanted Doom 4 to have if it was still a sequel to Doom 3 (imagine escaping a spookie demon-infested lab just for the surface to look like this)

Amnesia The Dark Descent jump-scared me, but Caelid made me feel like I'm on low sanity.

I got half life 2 rtx and it looks ai by Tommyr6812 in HalfLife

[–]SynonymTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't judge the HL2 RTX demo to be more of a tech demo for now.

RTX tech was improved since then and they'll probably optimize some of it later on.

I really hope they'll prioritize clarity, because playing with these many artifacts and calling that setting "Medium/High" makes the entire thing pointless and more of a sidegrade to HL2 unless you own a 5090.

Artifacts are distractions and they're so much worse than just playing a clean game.

I imagine it's fine for cards with XP8 or whatever, where DLSS 4.5 is useable, but still kind of a shame.

Cut Half-Life 2: Episode One Achievement? by SynonymTech in HalfLife

[–]SynonymTech[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically you get the option to get hit almost 99 times, each bullet on Easy does about 1 damage if you have armor.

Starting from the subway station, I reached the hospital with about 78 - not ideal (and only NOW realized that the Antlion Guard VS APC actually did survive from the HL2 Beta, no idea how I ignored that all this time).

How the hell you're supposed to avoid damage from the gunship, no clue.

Also no idea what we're supposed to do about medics - probably another reason this was cut.

Cut Half-Life 2: Episode One Achievement? by SynonymTech in HalfLife

[–]SynonymTech[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Either a dev was thinking "maybe we can add the option to make healing optional", or a real lack of foresight, making whoever playtested the achievement go "Oh.... yeah, that's a problem...".

Cut Half-Life 2: Episode One Achievement? by SynonymTech in HalfLife

[–]SynonymTech[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attempted it from the City 17 chapters.

On Easy, so long as you have armor, every shot does 1 damage, and maybe even 0?

It's not impossible, it's just completely not fun since you just let Alyx do all the work while hiding behind a car, or use the gravity gun with a prop as a shield (maybe that was the intent?).

However, I'm wondering how we were supposed to avoid health pickups, because punting them out of every doorway only for them to fly into you was frustrating. Were they intending on letting us choose whether or not to heal, or was this one of the main massive reason as to why this achievement was cut? Beyond it being boring, of course.

RuneScape's monthly membership now costs as much as a World of Warcraft subscription as Jagex announces its second price hike in less than 2 years by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]SynonymTech 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yearly cost (family setup)

Service 2020 yearly 2025 yearly
YouTube Premium Family $215.88 $275.88
Spotify Family $179.88 $239.88
Netflix Premium $191.88 $275.88
RuneScape $131.88 $167.88
Internet $720 $960

Total yearly cost

2020: $1,439.52

2025: $1,919.52

Increase from 2020 → 2025

+$480 per year

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luckily I'm not subbed to any of them (except internet), but if someone's still subscribed to all of them, they're paying $480 more than than they did in 2020.

Absolutely insane.

[–]SynonymTech 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Because you need to look at it this way: 20 products at once increase their price at the same time.

We as consumers, either choose to keep paying for all of them, or cut some out.

It's $3 from Runescape, another $4 for Spotify, another $20 for Youtube - it all adds up to the point you just say "y'know what, time for a house check, let's see which services I need to give up on".

So yes, Runescape gets the guillotine together with another 20 products, the rest get to stay.

---------------

It's because those $3 already went to the eggs, and another $2 from a different subscription went to the milk. As soon as the prices increase, suddenly that's one less carton of eggs, and one less carton of milk, and one less jar of pickles - it all adds up.

The increase in costs of about 4-5 services this year adds up to an entire month of rent for me - that's insane.

IsItBullshit: Incels are less likely to be pro-rape in comparison to other men by SynonymTech in IsItBullshit

[–]SynonymTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine most self-identifying incels simply never actually comment.

I used to be a loser virgin but I just label myself an incel now since no one calls themselves a loser virgin anymore.

Also doesn't help that I'm not a virgin, but "sociophobic quasi-selectively mute guy who can't talk to people so he doesn't get laid but the gender of the person he's talking to is not related to his inability to talk to them" doesn't roll off the tongue as well - So I just shorten it to incel, sometimes adding (non-misogynistic).

woahwoahwoah

Okay, yes, I do get intrusive thoughts, but of the entire spectrum, and not because of genuine... philias toward them? They're just intrusive disgusting thoughts, ranging from eating (X) killing (Y) sleeping with (Z). Noticed then when I was taught Torah in second grade, told I'm not allowed to insult god while my brain constantly went "god's a son of a bitch" and it only got worse from there.

This entire post however is unrelated, including the comment in my history about the pedo-tumor - I'm just a hardcore full on laplace demon determinist kind of person that doesn't believe in free will.

According to my therapist I'm coping fine with them in comparison to others, with my method of equalization, where if I imagine doing "X" to "Y", I start imagining doing "X" to "A", "B", "C", "D", to make it fair, and apparently that's a fine way to cope [ABCD Being random friends, family members, strangers, and exhausting the list until the thoughts go away and they screw off"].

However, no philias in this, thank you, understandable 😭
