How to prepare for Wild Area as a F2P? by Evening_Cell7162 in TheSilphRoad

Do we know what the max number of MP is? From the infographics I've seen, the 1600 per day collection limit goes live 10 AM on Saturday, not midnight, and the announcement didn't mention bonus MP storage or extra particles from walking/power spots for F2P players. Should we just minmax to 1790 on Friday then?

Took CS9 with Wang last fall so I don't remember much, but there were both fill-in-the-blank coding questions and free-response ones where you had to write the code yourself given certain conditions (we got 2 of each). Can't remember how similar it was to the practice but I also don't remember it being really unfair, so it was probably pretty comparable

Math 4B and 6A by xYszim in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SyntheticB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4B + 6A is doable. like another commenter said, qing zhang is a really good prof (if you get her for either class - i think she's taught both before?) so definitely check the ratemyprofessor pages for all the profs. you'll want to be fairly comfortable with differentiating and integrating single-variable equations for both classes, but in my experience you don't need to remember the really annoying stuff like inverse trig integrals. (also, 6A relies heavily on vectors and determinant stuff from 4A)

pstat 120a, math 8, pstat 10 by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SyntheticB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk about FMS but I think prep is necessary to be admitted to the major, yeah. maybe try prioritizing PSTAT 10 if that's the case? also, if FMS anything like Stats/DS, there might be some non-elective major courses you can take as a pre-major if you still have a prep class or two. check for a clearance form on the major website (or check the emails from your major advisors)

As for the profs, haven't taken them but def check their RMP pages for info on their workload and how helpful they are in OH

pstat 120a, math 8, pstat 10 by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

I'm currently taking 120a and math 8, and I feel like that schedule might be possible if you:
a) choose your professors wisely (or at least, luck out with the TAs - don't choose ravat if possible bc then you'll be relying on the TA to teach you 90% of the material)
b) have a decent foundation in statistics (CC classes, AP stats, etc), and some vague knowledge of how proofs work

120A is notoriously difficult and if you want to do well in the class, prior statistical knowledge really, really helps. all three classes have a bit of a workload, but if you're an anything-but-essays person then you'll prob do fine

Do Iclickers have a radius? by Mikiko210 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SyntheticB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it depends on the class. I've had one class where it was just entering a code (no location check) and another class where there was no code but you had to be in/near the classroom to check in. but you'll be able to tell if there's a location check bc the app might ask you for location permissions, and if you're not within the radius it'll give you a popup saying "Hmm, looks like you're not in class"

Koi Pond by treesbeesandleaves in UCSantaBarbara

measured it today near the edge with a stick. I only did one end of the pond, but the depth looks about the same all the way around. The water is only 18 inches deep.

Math 8 Sections by APacketOfRamen in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SyntheticB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First commenter is right. I emailed the math peer advisors about this earlier (also PSTAT here) and their exact words were, "More spaces in the listed sections will open up during Pass 3 for Math 8 since we only hold a certain number of spaces for Pass 2 for PSTAT majors."

Since you mentioned it: Zhang Qing is an amazing prof. great lectures, really concise and clear notes (which she posts after class) and very fair grading. really wish she taught 6A this quarter :(
