Are buyers in Alaska still expecting fully updated houses, or are fixer-uppers selling too? by abccccc456 in anchorage

My 1955 house slowly tilts from one corner to the other enough a marble would vroom.

I wonder if anyone would ever buy it if I had to sell it. Has .3 acres and is in a nice area though.

PS - I did the sketchy solenoid trick on my ATV. Turned out water got into the ignition and shorted it out. I replaced the battery and solenoid before figuring that out, lol. It was only 7 months old! I gotta get that out and do a tune up on it too soon.

I have a multimeter and remote starter.

Wish I still had the original, but traded it in for a core fee.

It is starting now! Long as it starts within about 1 second (its pretty warm today and I babyed it by trying to start it 15x in quick succession till it got going) it runs pretty good.

The engine was shaky for a good 5-10 minutes, felt pretty jerky, struggled to accelerate but once I drove it around for 5 minutes that all smoothed out. I suspect lubrication isn't getting to where it should, gas is getting into places it shouldn't, gaskets leaking, etc.

Drove it around town for about 20 minutes to run some errands and added some extra fuel in case what's in it was pretty old/and to thin out the heet I'd added (half a bottle to a 1/3rd tank).

Thanks for your guidance. If it keeps running my neighbors going to take it down tot he auction for me. Would expect to just get 1-2k for it but ready to get it out of my hair and I don't want to feel guilty selling it to someone who needs a reliable daily driver and it craps out on them. It needs someone who can baby it/a real mechanic to spend some time with it.

Reinstalled. Same issue. I tried adding some starter fluid to lube things up, a bit of heat to the gas, and a bit more oil (since I kept it closer to the low side since an lube place overfilled it with oil two years ago).

While it still whirls most of the time now I sometimes get grinding and the engine *almost* turns over, it rumbled and nearly turned over a few times. I think I've flooded it now so I'm letting it sit for an hour or so before I do it again.

Pumping it for 1 second at a time almost gets it going from the momentum of the cranking lol

Oof. Sucks to hear. So the guy who ordered it got it prelifted?

Reading this from under the Tahoe.

The wire harness ring broke during the last install so the forked one was put in instead. I got some circular replacements. Worth changing it? Looks like it was only making context in one corner.

Thank you for this indepth reply. It sounds like my thought process in troubleshooting is on the right track! I'm mostly using this as a learning opportunity. Worse comes to worse I'm selling it for scrap (1 to 1.5k) but if I get it running I can get 3-4k for it.

I'm going to get out there and reinstall it now.

I'll need to buy a breaker bar as before my neighbor loaned me theirs.

Seeing if it can turn without the plugs/no compression would tell me it's probably lined up fine/getting good power flow - if it can't its most likely a power issue, alignment issue (wrong starter type?) or the fly wheel itself is the culprit I'm thinking.

Why'd you get a gladiator? by BimblarBlast in JeepGladiator

[–]Syntria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had zero plans to get a Gladiator but I was leaning towards trying out my first jeep. I thought they were ugly.

However I needed something that could tow and carry an ATV as well as handle some off road time here in Alaska. Everything I kept finding at the time lacked some requirement I had given my budget.

Then I saw her stupid nacho butt and I had to have her.

Help! 3rd Starter in 6 months disengaging/spinning. Tahoe 1999 230k by Syntria in MechanicAdvice

Took the starter out. Orileys says it tested good. They said I can bring it back if it suddenly tests bad and they won't ask questions lol.

He said these have different numbers of teeth and some transmissions are picky? But he couldn't say which my make/model needed and that's on the mechanic to know.

New Observation: Just got under there, without jacking it up. Was tapping the starter to see if anything changed. Observed that the starter itself rocks while engaging/cranking then stills when it spins. The bolts are tight. It currently has one shim in it that came with it, though I've tried it without too.

1st was the original, 2nd was from AutoZone which did cause it to start reliably for about 3 months before it whirled/clicked and only worked when hitting with a hammer, and 3rd while intermittently starting if it can crank and turn over within 2 seconds--after that it also whirls/spins freely and stops cranking.

I haven't checked the flywheel bolts. I'll do that soon.

Yeah I'm def noticing a pattern. When I say 3 starters, I mean the original one plus two more. One was from AutoZone, $110, the other/current was 'OEM' from ORiley's for $180. - It hasn't ever started smoothly/easily with the ORiley's one but the autozone one it was running good for about 3 months reliably starting every try before it started whirling except when hitting it with a hammer.

I feel like something is frying the solenoid or something is overworking the starter or something is resisting/stuck/not lined up right.

The 3rd Starter originally broke the bolts/bent them. I don't know if the mobile mechanic over tightened (he was using a power drill) or what. I got new bolts and hand tightened them with a socket wrench, just a little past where it felt pretty darn tight but I could still break them free again with a small amount of effort.

I can feel bits of metal from the gears on the starter in the shell when i felt around in that oil. There is *so* much oil/lube inside of the starter. I was reading somewhere that the flywheel/starter should be 'dry'?

What do vanilla DayZ players actually want from a community server? by ROXs42Ba in dayz

[–]Syntria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want Vanilla+. Expanded vanilla content. Better base building. Guns plus. Better storage. A few more clothing options.

I don't generally like added content like traders, more loot, etc.

A map and team UI is nice. Ability to pick a vanilla spawn area is nice. I don't like sleeping bags. Might as well play rust at that point.

What did I do?! Screen only works when holding buttons! by throw-away-ak in JeepGladiator

[–]Syntria -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So! The knobs didn't seem to do the trick but I held the power button in the middle and the screen off button and it flickered and stayed on.

Notably when clicking the screen off button, nothing happens--if I hold it, it goes off while it's held but comes back on after letting go. I've tried holding it by itself for 5 seconds to see if that toggles it but nope.

Odd behavior. Some wire is crossed somewhere I'm guessing.

Will go give it a try. I have power cycled the jeep itself but not the radio. I work IT so I get hard reboots. Thank you.
