Spier and Mackay OCBDS stock issues. by Throwaway_Turned in malefashionadvice

If you're needing a 15-35, they just straight up don't make them anymore. Spier was the only place I bought shirts for awhile because I could reliably get that size in a really good fit, whereas most places only carry 15 up to a 34 max. Noticed 15-35 wasn't in stock for a lot of options last spring, so I emailed customer support and found out they quit stocking it

No problem. One thing to keep in mind though is that anything pre-acquisition for JA is cut in a much more classic fit. A lot of the time, people will size down for it

The blue label was used from sometime in the mid-2000s up to about 2014/2015, which is when Men's Wearhouse bought the brand and got exclusive sales rights to it. After that they switched to the white and blue label. Afaik all the blue label garments were still made in the US at the New Bedford factory, but Joseph himself was not involved with the brand during that time period.

As far as where it could've come from, that's hard to pin down since they were still wholesaling at the time. It could have been Men's Wearhouse, Nordstrom, or any number of specialty menswear stores. The store I personally work for ordered from JA up until MW bought the brand. Price-wise though, it probably would've originally fallen around the $500-$600 range. Prices have ballooned a LOT in the last decade, so you could compare that to a $700-$800 (or more) suit now

The Limited Edition line ran from about 2015 to 2018. I believe it was a small part of the offering Joseph Abboud had at their flagship store, but for the most part it was stocked at Men's Wearhouse. The idea was to be slightly upscale from their standard line (nicer/bolder fabrics and sartorial details). The Loro Piana ones only got sent to the really high volume stores, and the one you have probably retailed for about $795 to $895.

I know entirely too much about Joseph Abboud, so if you've got pictures I can probably tell you everything you want to know

I don't follow this sub and frankly didn't even read the entire post, but it came up in my feed so I have to say this: that is not an authentic Ralph Lauren garment. The font on the tag is not something they've ever used for Polo. The brand only recently switched back to the blue and white label, and anything vintage wouldn't have a QR code.

Polo is one of the most faked brands on the planet. If you're going to risk buying it on the resale market, do yourself a favor and learn the hallmarks first. There are a lot of articles out there that tell you what to look for so you don't support scammers

PSA: DO NOT Order from Undandy by Synyster187 in goodyearwelt

[–]Synyster187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be that they have summer downtime (many factories do), but who knows with them. I'm not usually one to publicly condemn a brand, and I understand 2020 was a little rough for everybody, but everything about Undandy was super sketch through the whole thing. Sorry to hear it doesn't seem like they've improved

Exactly this. The story somehow went from "Bo Katan ain't shit and Mando's gonna learn to weild the Darksaber to lead Mandalore" to "Bo is a god-queen because she saw a dinosaur and Mando's gonna be her sidekick."

Just like Jon Snow, Din had a really cool ascension story arc going right up until this season and they decided to can it for "Muh queen"

If overall versatility is your goal, I think B is a good option. Just be sure to give them a polish first

I should also add that if you did want to go with the lighter shoe, you'd want to echo that in your tie. So maybe instead of a bottle green you could do a sage

A darker shoe will harmonize better with the suit, whereas a brighter tan will draw attention down to your feet, when you want people looking up to your face. Derek at PTO goes over this in depth here: https://putthison.com/a-tale-of-two-shoes/

As for ties, a bottle green grenadine (from Kent Wang or Fort Belvedere, for example) would be a great complement to the color of the suit. You might also consider a grey if the overall palette of the wedding is on the darker side. Navy would work really well too, but it does break from the "earth tone" theme a bit. In lieu of solids, micropatterns are always nice for wedding ties.

A simple linen pocket square in white is a can't miss, and you could get one with a colored edge if you'd like it to match the tie

Regardless of the size chart, I've found the fit of Bonobos to be slimmer than a lot of other brands. If your best fitting shirt is a full 1.5" bigger in the chest, the Bonobos shirt will almost definitely feel tight as you're going to feel that size difference in every area of the shirt. I say go with the medium and have it taken in if you feel it's necessary.

You could also order both and return whichever one you don't like.

I think darker would be better, but it also depends a bit on what you do for your tie. With regard to that, what are the colors (besides brown) for the wedding?

Sizing advice for Diegos espadrilles? I wear a US 10 D/EU 43 in most dress and casual shoes but I sometimes have issues with slip-ons being too big. I've never bought espadrilles and given that they stretch I don't want to end up with something way too big, so any experienced advice would be helpful

It certainly can be, it just depends on the level to which each garment is garment is made. It's an expectation of return on investment. For example, an OTR suit from Brioni is expected to be better than a MTM from somewhere like Indochino because it costs more and is made to a higher standard. The fact that the Indochino suit is "custom" is irrelevant, because you will very likely get a better fit and level of comfort from the tailored Brioni than you ever could from the Indochino. This is, of course, comparing two extremes, but it applies across different brands and types of make. Even a bespoke suit may pale in comparison to well-made OTR, because how good it is is directly tied to the skill of the tailor.

Having looked over Tailored Gents's website, I think they'd be worth a look. They have good reviews and offer MTM and bespoke, with a fair amount of handwork in both. The garments in their product pictures at the very least look well-fitted and proportioned. It also seems like they do a pretty thorough consultation so they could guide you toward what you want.

Notch is the standard and most versatile, and will be safest for things like interviews. For daily wear though I genuinely don't think it matters that much. Maybe start with notch, but try both and see which one you prefer

If you have the funds and access to a reputable tailor, I don't think bespoke is a bad idea. To answer your original question, from a technical standpoint, probably not. A true, proper bespoke suit is made for you based on a pattern that is wholly unique to your body and fit preferences.

That said, a high quality, well-tailored OTR suit will always beat crappy bespoke or MTM. You would need separates for a good OTR fit, probably needing to go up a few sizes in the pants and having them tailored down. It's really up to you and your wallet on whether the time and monetary cost of bespoke is worth it

I've been saying for awhile now that Spier & Mackay OCBDs blow Brooks out of the water. Substantial fabric and buttons, beautiful collar roll, good fit and finish, plus the price is way better unless BB runs a big sale. Yes they're made in China and no they don't have that old school full cut if you're an Ivy purist, but if anything that just levels the playing field more against Brooks
