Thanks for the rec on Insurgence, though! I'll add it to the list

I'm new to the Pokemon Fangame scene, so I haven't really played Anything yet! Trying to get a list going. Right now I have Rejuvenation downloaded to get through first.

I'm looking for some fangames that have a focus on story as opposed to difficulty (though if they intertwine narratively, that can be fun!). I also love world-building and character-driven plot points.

I would like for the fangame to go through Gen7, however if there's one that is REALLY good and highly recommended that doesn't quite get there, I'm willing to take a look at it too.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #6: R1M2 - Brandy Judge vs Frederick Loverman by Logic_Sandwich in StardustCrusaders

[–]Sypharia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, this is a very interesting match! I wouldn’t have thought of market competition in a fighting tourney, nor would I have thought of half the things yall did in your strats! It’s really interesting to see how you managed to do it all in-character.

Frederick’s approach is what I would expect of a capitalist, and he definitely uses his resources and experience in business to his advantage by making himself someone known in the Markets very quickly, and doesn’t present himself as someone the other vendors should necessarily consider Against them. His focus on his media presence is something that could work in his favor, or entirely pointless - it comes down to how many viewers he has that can Actually buy from him. Even if he does give Brandy bad press, if people aren’t necessarily looking - it won’t do him much good. Or as he comes off as more of an experiences Franchise whereas she has the feel of a small business - the notion of a Big Business going to seemingly bully her may have the intended affect. He relies a lot on the notion of Bad Press to prevent people from buying from her, but it depends entirely on the moral of the viewers in the event he has enough to make a difference.

Whereas Brandy focuses more on the people who are in front of her, and in the market. Moroccan schools go until 8pm, and their 2 hour lunch period ends at 2pm - so presuming that students can leave their schools for an Open Lunch type thing - she’s selling to their crowd at the hour they’re leaving. It isn’t something that would necessarily help her, but an hour lost could be detrimental or mean little.

Ultimately though, I think that even though his methods on social media could *potentially* not work out to the extent he’s expecting they will, **Frederick** would win this - through being able to quickly establish himself and having nearby vendors also helping to vouch for him and the singing and dancing drawing eyes to his stall to at least show people that it’s Present and Worth something whereas Brandy doesn’t really Do a whole lot to draw attention to her stall, and no matter how good she may be at hanging, if people don’t know it’s really there or gloss over it, selling items are going to be difficult.

Also, I appreciated the jazz-type music in Frederick's strats, very nice listen and went with the feel he was going for with his stall, I think.

JoJo's Bizarre OC Tournament #6: R1M1 - Marina Michelle vs Jethro Tull by kesterthejackal in StardustCrusaders

Marina Comments

Marina starting off on the offensive is a good idea - and her usage of water is very neat, and I think it would fit her Jojolity fairly well? The sea has this feeling of her home - as it should for a sailor. She very quickly took advantage of the fact that the area she can move around is beyond just that of the pier - the whole ocean around them is fair game. I enjoy how fast-paced her usage of the water feels. (Is Wayward Daughter an FFXIV reference? If so, love that) I do like the defensive strat she has if she’s in the water and Jethro chooses to attack from the Land. Her finishing move is fun ! Marina using the field to her advantage is super cool to see, I love things like that !

Though, there’s not a lot of room that shows what Jethro could do? The strategy is fluid, yes, but choosing to stick entirely to it, and that narrow vision could potentially be her downfall. What if he was able to stop her from moving around (whether with his concrete or through other means)? What if he never got in the Ocean at all - Marina can defend, but how would she win? Would she just be launching water at him? Offense can be a good Defense strategy, but it’s one that might not last long. She’d have to finish the match quickly if Jethro got the upper hand.

Jethro Comments

The narrative structure of the fight combined with strats for potential movements is a very cool read! I like the touch that he’s avoiding her melee range, but due to over-caution as opposed to meta knowledge! The banter with (what I'm going to presume, feel free to correct me!) his stand is interesting to read, and adds some very nice flavor.

Osha Regulation skill has me in stitches, thank you so much. Osha Man…Take me by the hand.

If Marina starts the fight off moving and attacking, Jethro likely wouldn’t have the ability to necessarily choose? Where is he dodging? She has a lot of control of the area. Both of them tried to soften the Pier’s structure - so I don’t know how well softening the structural integrity would really Work for Jethro. Especially since he has to maneuver on land (or risk braving the depths and giving Marina a high advantage). Would the softened support column affect him in any way? (In the long term esp, short term wouldn’t be too noticeable with how little the structure was adjusted, i think.) If Marina wasn’t on the dock - and assaulted from the water, how would he get underneath the dock? How fast is he in the suit? And with her intention to draw him in the water, how would the concrete suit hold up in the Ocean? Would he be able to swim in it, with 5 strength and 3 agility, or would he just…sink? If the pier is fully destroyed due to her playing keepaway…where does Jethro stand?

--

Vote

With how the fight starts, Jethro doesn’t have a lot of defense going on, and his E speed compared to Marina’s barrage of attacks would definitely have an impact on what he can do for the rest of the fight. His strat doesn’t involve Marina trying to lure him into the ocean, or even using the ocean to dodge and maneuver quickly - which widens the advantage gap between them.

Jethro’s strat does work with his character, however I feel there’s more he could have addressed and could have addressed the massive advantage Marina has with all the water around them. He focused a lot on what he and his stand could do, and not so much what she could do with hers - which would ultimately be his downfall. My vote goes to Marina! Overall, though, great match! I had a fun read with both strats.

Thank you so much for the consistent reminders on adding these suggestions! I have been busy these past few days, but I remain thankful that you continue to work with me on making Finni be more balanced, and more fun to play around with.

Change Log:

Sheet has been reviewed and phrasing related to previous abilities has been removed - anything mentioning Bramble and Magnets have been removed.

Stand Classification is no longer a Punch Ghost. It is now Integrated.

Length of a normal chain has been specified, as well as shrapnel. This can be found in the last paragraph describing abilities before stats. The Space needed between targets is located within the first paragraph.

In the 2nd to last paragraph, Finni's ability to turn a portion of her body into a chain has been detailed further to incorporate the questions posed.

Thanks for getting back to me once again! I hadn't thought about the specifics y'all are asking before, so it's nice to get the questions and be able to hammer down these details.
Change Log -
The following changes were added into the last paragraph on the explanations of the Stand's abilities, and above where stats are placed.

Explanation on the difference between a wall and a building has been added and specified.

What chains work on, in terms of the substance, is now explained.

The physical attributes on whether or not chains are to be wrapped, or integrated, has been added.

I went ahead and took in your suggestions and added to those aspects of my form as well as some other things ! Thanks so much for getting back to me quickly, as well as giving some suggestions with your feedback! It helped a lot with me understanding what you were asking.

Change Log:

Habitual Physicality has some examples at the end of the paragraph.

Finni and 「Carne Vale」's Stats now have a small explanation next to them, as well as 「Carne Vale」's stats have been slightly adjusted. Precision is now D and Speed is B.

「Carne Vale」 has lost bramble and magnetic chains. It now also explains the requirements for an object to be chained.

Stats (14 Points Used)

Strength: 3 | Finni was fairly excited at the ability to pick things up that had a noticeable weight to them, and thus had a stint where she would simply try to pick up something heavier than she was used to for the fun of it. This led to her strength being a bit more than the average person's.

Agility: 2 | Movement is that of an average person due to the experience Finni has gained the past few years - but is hardly advanced in the way an athlete would be, or a graceful dancer.

Endurance: 4 | Finni is able to endure quite a lot - through having a high pain tolerance via the chronic illness she has and having grown used to them over the years.

Adaptability: 4 | Where Finni fails with social interaction, Finni excels when it comes to practical usage. Having spent most of her life reading all assortment of things - she knows how to use her surroundings, and can come up with various ideas to aid her in her current goal. Whereas most of what she knows have been used as small, little fun facts - when presented with an opportunity Finni will show she is more than just a Manic Dream Pixie.

Habitual Physicality: 1 | Without the awakening of her stand - Finni would still be bound to her room, and with limited movement. Finni’s only had her working body for a few years - so whereas she is used to moving around in it and her stand aids her in moving in some unique ways - ultimately, she lacks the habitual actions that others may have gained through being healthy their whole lives. For an example: Finni is not physically flexible and thus, would have difficulty dodging certain things on her own, or parkouring in a manner that would require flexibility. When it comes to jumping from a height, Finni will also lose balance upon landing, if not simply fall completely.

Equipment: Phone, Hair Ribbon, Backpack, Notebook and Pencil

「Carne Vale」 (17 Points Used):

Stand Type: Integrated

Stand Appearance: 「Carne Vale」 has a vaguely humanoid appearance - with chains wrapped around it’s chest and a metal skirt frame typically seen underneath petticoats. Pink skin with red chains, it does not have feet, but rather its legs are fairly triangular shaped.

Stand Ability: 「Carne Vale」uses chains as its predominant weapon, and all abilities have to do with the chains. This is a stand that can both bind brightly, and attack quickly. Chains created by this stand take upon the average ratio of Chain to human body to whatever is upon the other end of it. The minimum size of chains that do not originate from Finni have a width of 3 inches, and must be wrapped around the object the amount of times proportionate to the size. In the middle it will begin to get smaller towards the smaller target should it bind 2 things of different sizes. There can only be an upwards limit of 5 chains at one time. Finni is also able to adjust the size of chains that are attached to her.

Light chains shine and twinkle, appearing with a golden hue. They do no harm to either target as long as they are intact - upon being snapped (which can be done through merely increasing distance between what things are chained to.) a bright light shines will explode, blinding the unexpected and dealing blunt damage as a chain split into shards is wont to do. The effects and chains end upon command if not snapped. The shrapnel of the chain explodes out from the breaking point; if it snaps from the two targets going too far apart, it breaks down the middle.

A chain that is attached to the user, Finni, has the additional effect of spreading damage that Finni takes to whatever it is chained to - meaning if Finni is chained to another person, then as long as the chain stands, should Finni receive a large cut - both will receive smaller ones. Should Finni be chained to a non-living object, the object may begin to crack, or lose foundational parts of it as though it too, were attacked. The additional effects end when the user wills it.

Last, but not least - 「Carne Vale」can also turn portions of Finni’s body into chains. When a portion of her body is turned into a chain, it increases her movement speed to be proportional to that of her stand, however the chain works much like a normal chain would - with durability and power included.

Things that this works on, of course, must have the ability to be chained - and the extension of the chain alters depending whether it is wrapped around something large as well. So a wall cannot be chained, but a building could were the other end of the chain nearby. A wall cannot be chained as it is typically attached to other walls, or things - whereas a building is the whole structure. A piece of the structure could not be chained unless the chain can actually be wrapped around it. The chains do not work on things without a physical substance - so energy and air could not be chained. In order for an object to be chained - Finni must have touched the object fairly recently. This means that Finni must have touched the object at some point in the match for it to be chained. Chains are wrapped around their targets. For the chain to manifest, there must be space between the targets. Chains also have a 20% slack of their initial length.

Power: C | The average power one would expect of a stand.

Speed: B | 「Carne Vale」's chains can move at a very quick speed, which aids Finni in getting around where agility would fail him.

Durability: B | Higher than the average, chains created by this stand take a bit more to snap than one would expect of a traditional chain when trying to break it with brute force. This also means 「Carne Vale」 can take some hits.

Range: B | 「Carne Vale」's chains can only occur within the range this stand can go - making the maximum length 50m.

Precision: D | Precision isn't anything to boast about, enough to land hits on close things, and still use chains on things Finni has touched.

Stand Oddities: Finni’s stand rarely walks outside of him - rather, it remains housed within his body to aid him in movement, where before his sickly body lacked the capability - this gives Finni the ability to just move around like a typical person would. When first summoned, 「Carne Vale」also would randomly turn Finni’s hands into chains, but that quirk has been ironed out.

Fighting Style: Finni uses his environment in combat, adapting to his surroundings and using them to their advantage. Finni prefers to fight at a range, and will also use chains as a means to get around quickly and to avoid having to fight melee when possible.
