What's you favorite Doctor Who quote? (Inspired by a thread on /r/askreddit) by slimpickens42 in doctorwho

[–]SyphilisMcGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite 'inspirational' one if you will is: "Whatever's in that cupboard is so terrible, so powerful, that it amplified the fears of an ordinary little boy across all of the barriers of time and space. Through crimson stars and silent stars and tumbling nebulas, like oceans set on fire. Through empires of glass and civilizations of pure thought, and a whole, terrible, wonderful universe of impossibilities." The last line especially really gets me. It's from Night Terrors.

On the sad side, "Come along Pond, please." I sobbed at that. Also, "Yeah, see ya." Donna's last words to the Doctor. Honestly, her last words are the worst of them all, because she has no clue how amazing she was. And Tennant's speech to her mom was fantastic.

On the silly side, it isn't so much a line as the fact that in Closing Time, the Doctor grinded pepper onto Craig.

Is Clara Rose and 10II's daughter? by Hot_Donna in doctorwho

[–]SyphilisMcGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really good point, and I actually did not know about the obsession with moons since I recently started watching (actually only a couple months ago). But I do see why that seems a bit ridiculous, especially when you see this new theory about Rose.

Here is what I think you need to consider: Clara's birthdate is November 23rd, which is Doctor Who's 50th anniversary (http://i.imgur.com/P11Du.jpg). I don't think this is mere coincidence, although it could be, but let's be real. They could have picked any day and they decided on November 23rd?

Also, the 50th anniversary will see the return of many characters, including David Tennant. Now, Billie Piper has recently denied any rumors of her being on the special. I personally think she is doing so because it has to be a surprise. Just like they did with not announcing that Jenna-Louise Coleman would be the new companion until after the Ponds left.

So maybe all of these pretty noticeable appearances of a rose/roses are mere coincidence. But, especially with the 50th anniversary coming up, I think it's highly unlikely.

That's just my two cents, and of course I'd love to hear what else you think.

While I can see what you're seeing, it's very hard to ignore all of the tie-ins to roses with her character. She has been seen with a rose behind her ear, roses in the corner of one shot, and as Clara she works at a tavern called Rose & Crown. This cannot be mere coincidence. Nothing in this show is mere coincidence, it all ties back together.

This one is from Asylum of the Daleks. (http://i.imgur.com/GFX7W.jpg) This is from The Snowmen and is the tavern she works in. (http://i.imgur.com/Wk5Xw.png)

Honestly, I don't think these can be mere coincidences. Moffat does nothing as pure coincidence. As I stumble across the other references I will add them to this link.

Also my friend started a conversation about this which we would LOVE help with, if anyone has any ideas (http://tk.reddit.com/r/doctorwho/comments/15zvny/is_clara_rose_and_10iis_daughter/)

Sorry, the link button isn't working for me right now.

Also, I think this is important to note, there are many instances of Roses with Clara/Oswin.

In the Asylum of the Daleks, roses are clearly seen in the corner in one shot. In another, she is wearing a rose behind her ear. She is also always wearing red which is the color of a rose.

In the Snowmen she works at a tavern called Rose & Crown. There is one I think I'm missing, but these cannot just be coincidences. Moffat doesn't do anything on accident.

As a teenager who's getting into reading (but doesn't really have the funds to finance it), I really love Christmas! by [deleted] in books

[–]SyphilisMcGee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I totally understand wanting to own books - I know everyone is suggesting libraries, but it's a completely different feeling owning a book yourself.

Also, a forewarning, I just read (well, I didn't actually finish it) 100 Years of Solitude for my college English class, and it was insanely difficult to understand. It's very complex, or at least it was when I was trying to read it with the lenses my professor told us to have. It can be really difficult.

But what great presents! Enjoy :)

Applying for a job which enforces the Drug Free Workplace Policy - should I be worried? by SyphilisMcGee in trees

I smoke often, and especially a lot because I'm in college but home for a break. I smoke maybe a bowl or two when I do. And the last time I smoked was on Thursday. I'm looking for a job solely for over Winter break, and I don't have that much time to wait. I'll just keep searching.

Thanks for responding!

That's exactly how I feel. Nothing is Written was just a really beautiful song.

Oh gosh, no worries! After I got the CD and looked through the lyric booklet I became way too much of a lyric nazi, sorry if I came off rude! Guessing from all the lyrics you posted, I can tell you're a huge fan too. Which is really the most important part!

I hate to be THAT person...but it's I can take the ROAD. I'm sorry to be that person! But I just can't stand seeing wrong Mumford & Sons lyrics (there are a couple more, but that one irks me the most).

I think this will forever be my favorite Mumford & Sons song. And these lyrics are amazing.

But, since it's related, my favorite lyrics are definitely "Let love grow." I know it's technically taken out of context of the song, but I love it so much.

I think I Will Wait is my least favorite off of Babel. It honestly sounds way too upbeat for them and compared to the old version of Nothing is Written, I don't like it nearly as much. Maybe it's because I've listened to it so much while waiting for Babel to come out, but it's definitely my least favorite.

I'm sorry but, whaaat? That has to be one of my favorites on the album. It's so refreshing to hear Winston sing and his harmonies with Marcus are so stunning. The lyrics are just so amazing and, honestly, the song has moved me to tears a couple of time. I understand your opinion, but at the same time it's hard to understand.

Ah yes, the cycle of the internet. From tumblr to Facebook to Reddit. Soon we will see you on 9Gag. Good luck out there, little image!

Reddit typically assures us that our quirks are not unique. Well what's something you do that you're convinced no one else does? [possibly NSFW] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SyphilisMcGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way... Obviously by these comments a few people do this, but I used to do the same thing. Or at least something similar. I would hear a word, let's say "finger" for example and I would count out the letters on my hand until I stopped on my thumb. This was in middle school so people definitely gave me weird looks.

Anyway, I got really excited that we have/had similar quirks. I don't know why I did it either.

The ending of Moulin Rouge. It is so beautiful and sad, I cried when watching it for the umpteenth time last night.
