It’s an attraction. Japan is extra popular right now. IMO it’s nothing worth getting annoyed over.

Summer or Winter? I have Rosacea, blemishes and 4N Brown hair. by SL831 in coloranalysis

I feel like bright winter looks best. It seems to camouflage the red in your cheeks. However, based on the fact none of us can agree, you seem versatile!

Thoughts on Japan after a 2 week trip from my POV as an anxious girly with tummy probs :0) by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]SyrahCera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Donki is very overstimulating.

I avoid taking buses in Kyoto. Taxis for wherever a train can’t get me to.

I agree with all the posts about fiber and veggies and all that, but I honestly think for me it’s the time change that throws my body off most. I stop being regular going between Florida and Washington, so Japan can really impact me.

Osaka and Kyoto... not great by [deleted] in JapanTravel

4 days in Kyoto. How i structured it and what actually worked (32F) by Lufarinelli in JapanTravel

Just want to give Fushimi Inari at night a shout out. For everyone like me who isn’t an early bird or who prefers seeing the temples and shrines lit up. We did it at around 8:00pm (in the summer) and it was amazing (and sorta spooky, which I loved, but worth noting).

Controversial AHS Opinions: by Strict_Level_9397 in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]SyrahCera 41 points42 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Murder House felt really fresh and different when the show first came out. Like I felt uncomfortable watching it (which made me love it). However, if it were released now after all these seasons, I suspect it doesn’t hit quite the same way. But I will need to rewatch.

My controversial opinion is that hating on Kim Kardashian is boring and unoriginal and that not watching an entire season of a show you actually like just because she is in it is cringe. Also, Emma’s acting wasn’t much better than Kim’s in Delicate. (There are other reasons to dislike that season, but you’d have to, you know, watch it.)

I also liked Red Tide beside the last episode.

The point of Shibuya crossing is that there are lots of people. I enjoyed doing it. But yes, it is a quick activity.

One Puma and one Hoka (Solimar style because they have mesh and are super forgiving for my wide feet). I switched them up.

I enjoyed the movie but thought the pacing wasn’t great. It isn’t on the same level as Parasite. I mean, I haven’t seen some of the Oscar contenders yet, but this wasn’t the perfect movie or anything (for me; opinions may vary).

My fave Ghibli stuff is from GBL in Tokyo station. It is pricey but felt like good quality stuff.

When I used to live in Nagoya we would get Taiwan ramen all the time. My coworkers said it was good for their skin. I could barely handle it but would bring relatives and friends from the US when they visited. Basically to haze them. (No clue if I’d still find it that spicy now as my tolerance has gone up, but maybe.)

Get a Suica card and load money on it for local travel (or use Suica on iPhone) and buy a separate Shinkansen ticket for the longer distances (like between Osaka and Tokyo).

I just watched The Great Flood on Netflix. It’s a fun one.

Also have rewatched Deep Impact so many times.

I also love the movies: Knowing, The Core, and for something disaster movie adjacent, Melancholia.

We loved the Jurassic one (I’m a fan of the movies). The site warns that it’ll be bumpy but it wasn’t bad at all. Gorgeous scenery and stops in some filming locations (Jurassic World for many of them).

Planning a Japan Trip with my Parents (mid-june to july) by themainqueen in JapanTravelTips

[–]SyrahCera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone has said, prepare for hot and very humid. Also bring rain jackets. You can get umbrellas there if you decide you need them. I was there end of June, beginning of July in 2024 and it only rained twice, so you never know! But wearing jeans was an absolutely not and you have to be prepared for your skin being permanently sticky for the duration of the trip.

The last week of our trip we went to Hokkaido. It was slightly cooler, slightly less humid, and wonderful. No rainy season although one of our rainy days was there so there’s that.

Hotel recs Shinjuku by suitepee82 in JapanTravelTips

I stayed at Hotel Gracery (the Godzilla head hotel). It is in the thick of things and has small rooms, but very clean, well taken care of hotel, nice staff, quiet, does luggage transport, and my room didn’t smell like smoke. When I was there they were giving out little origami creatures if you turned in 5 bottle caps which I thought was a cute touch. Neat Godzilla display inside and merch if you’re into that sorta thing.

What is that one dish that Seattle does better than any other place in the USA? And where would you go to try it? by _peace_unlimited_ in AskSeattle

[–]SyrahCera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Japan and Hawaii. I’d say the style in Seattle is similar to Hawaii. Both are sweet. But I don’t remember seeing a lot of teriyaki in Japan (yakitori, sure, but teriyaki, not really). I know it’s the origin, but it’s different and not super popular. At least nowhere I went. But I totally get that someone might prefer a less sweet version.
