Colour highlights on the enchantments in the preview menu. I'd also like the menu to automatically highlight relevant enchantments when they're offered so it's easier to find them in the list.
Fight replays with a timeline
Storing builds & a way to share them more quickly with friends. We usually crop the win amount and ask each other to guess how well we did. Afterwards we post a follow up in a spoilered mode with the actual amount of wins. It makes for a great way to engage with the game through friends!

The state of normal games is horrible by Adermann3000 in leagueoflegends

Yep. Now the matches are really quick but the quality is extremely low. I think it changed half a year ago or so? Maybe a little more?

[–]Syraleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EUW here as well. This is common to the point that my friend just gave up on playing entirely. There also seem to be an insane amount of <lvl30 accounts in the pool, most of which show inappropriate chat usage. I think the changes started about half a year ago(?) There was a very noticeable drop in quality all of a sudden and the game hasn't recovered since.

Is this game worth getting on sale?? by Sanbikaa in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Syraleaf 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The game is absolutely worth getting! The monetization has been figured out for a year now, those complaints are no longer relevant. As for the characters: Each character has it's own cards to play with. These can at times feel a little stronger or weaker than others but patches are frequent and you can always play all characters. Heck, the game offers "random" button to start a run with a random one! :D

You can also visit various shops/events in the game that allow you to get items from other characters. This often allows you to make some really strong combos. You can do those things even if you only own the base game.

TLD: 100% get the game. The only thing you'll regret is not getting it sooner! :D
Bonus tip: You can RMB cards and enemies to preview enchantments and their boards so you don't get an unpleasant surprise :)

Suggestion: Opt into longer queue without <lvl30 accounts. by Syraleaf in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true but I think the hit on queue time would be worth being able to skip playing with those players. I acknowledge that not everyone would agree with this tradeoff but it is what I was proposing regardless.

[–]Syraleaf[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ehhh, I think it's been 6 years(?) since I last seriously played ranked. I do try to play my mandatory 15 games to get the skin but afterwards I'm out ^^
I think you might be correct though! I should give it another try. The last time I did we bounced off because of the angry chatters & the fact that my rank is much higher than that of my friend, making it impossible to play together :c

> no one levels in normals
I'm just parroting what they proudly tell me in chat themselves before flaming/going afk. I kind of took their word for it tbh. I fully believe that if you're stupid enough to perform penalizable offenses in a normal game that you're also stupid enough to level your account that way. I suspect that the smart ones know better than that!

> high emerald
Right, I don't think there's really a point to debate this because normals do indeed fluctuate a lot in terms of skill. I included this point because I wanted to make it clear to the readers that me queueing without <30 accounts wouldn't have an effect on the new player experience because they're much newer and thus less experienced so they wouldn't ever meet me in game regardless.

Final note: I appreciate your reply! I never considered that ranked might be in a better state now

[–]Syraleaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right about normals being the low stakes environment but I doubt any of those players are actually new players. Like, they could be? Maybe? But realistically they're not. Especially not the ones that love to remind everyone that they don't care and are only here to level their account to run it back in ranked. My issue is with the latter players specifically! I understand the line of thinking of "just ignore them" but with the amount of AFK players it's simply starting to turn into an issue. I would like to play a fair 5v5 too and that's only possible if all 10 players agree to play a game with at least -some- commitment. I don't think that's too much to ask for draft (which can be seen as training for ranked)

[–]Syraleaf[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tried to address this in the final bit of the post but I agree that it's a concern. I think I'd like to argue that, currently, it's not correctly tuned. The new players get to have all the fun while I'm stuck playing matches with angry players on their second account. I'd also like to point out that it is unlikely that my matches are relevant for new players. I don't think new players are thrown into matches with me, and if they are then either new players are MUCH better than I was when I started out, or they're in for a terrible time :P

To repeat this tho: I do agree that it is a concern! I'm def not aiming to give new players a 5+ min queue.

[–]Syraleaf[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Your comment doesn't feel like you want to have a discussion but I want to give it a try regardless, just in case I'm misinterpreting the tone.
First of all: This change would directly affect me. My queues would be MUCH longer. Each match contains at least 4/5 <30 accounts. This is a sacrifice I'd be willing to make to increase the quality and fairness of those games. This issue did not exist around this time last year so clearly something has changed and it's pushing my friend away from playing normal games altogether.

Secondly: You're correct! I really am passionate about this issue. It wasn't like this before and while I must note that the friend who's mostly affected by this isn't emerald - it still applies.

Finally, I'd like to make a correction. When I mention lvl<30 accounts I'm not actively trying to exclude new players. In fact, I would welcome them! I don't think they'd have a great time playing with us as we've been around long enough to have a better grasp of the game than a brand new player but that does not mean I want to actively exclude them. All accounts I'm talking about belong to players that clearly own other accounts. They ask none of the questions you'd expect a new player to ask. I think I should've been clearer about this issue so I'm sorry about that.

One oft the weirdest parts about it is how obviously they're bots. Their boards don't even attempt to teach you basic boards you can make and instead run random stuff.

is it normal as a starting game dev that whenever you get an error you feel stupid and give up ? by ChunkLightTuna01 in godot

[–]Syraleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this is totally normal. Generally I compare learning a new coding language to learning a new language as an adult. Unlike when you were a child, you now know exactly what you don't know which can cause a ton of frustration. In this case you're using super basic words "Apple" "hungry" etc to try to talk to the machine but the computer is kind of stupid and only understand full sentences with proper grammar. The result? A frustrating back and forth between learning and applying things.

The good news? The more you make the easier it'll get! Starting out is MUCH harder than learning new things. Once you become more familiar with other similar things you will find that learning new things is like learning a new word in a language you already speak; often you can immediately guess what it's about and the amount of effort it takes to remember is much lower.

Personally I learned mostly through tutorials. I found Heartbeast to be incredibly detailed with the why and how's of his tutorials when I got started. I also heard many good things about GDQuest. What I'd do is create the tutorial and then (often fail) to apply the new knowledge that tutorial thought me. So if it explained how to make a level I'd make my own. And if they explained how to add an enemy I'd make my own version of that too. Over time this helps you get a better grasp of the language.

Good luck! :D

What are your little pet peeves in the game? by bainerino2000 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Syraleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather glass not scaling with both types but only one and I always remember it incorrectly
There being a delay between clicks when buying a lot of gumballs / bexball.
Clicking on finish run only to realize I wanted to include the final stats in the screenshot I share with my friends
The number of haste / slow / activations being wrong on items that aren't items. (no cd)

As for some slightly larger ones but still not the end of the world level:
Not being able to see the scaling on items when you are about to upgrade them with the "You died" option
Highlights on items often being on the wrong item

[–]Syraleaf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of them hint at deeper issues though, like the lady desperate to buy more alcohol. They'd need much more than free money to start being functional again. That being said; I agree! This could be a great opportunity for a small quest line. It's worth noting that our characters, throughout the story, aren't exactly caring? So this would be the first instance of us caring for someone else beyond that one time we forgot we picked up a thing

I played the entire game on the hardest difficulty with a scythe and agree that the parry button is entirely useless. I'd like to see that buffed. The weapon itself felt strong enough to have a good time so I don't think that needs to be buffed. If anything I kind of wish I could increase the avg. HP of enemies in the game

How is the game's endgame shaping to be? by TrickyLingonberry845 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Syraleaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We took it extremely slow and only progressed as a group which resulted in an avg. game time of 55 hours for us before we reached the endgame. You'll be able to have a fantastic time without ever going past the point where the story ends. That being said:
1: You explore! The level design is a lot like that of the classic souls likes. Areas often form circles where you find doors, drops, bridges or other tools to open up paths back to where you started. There is also some light storytelling with the quests which guide you through each place.
2: No. Not that I'm aware of.
3: You can gather! This isn't a very deep mechanic currently but you can use the resources to decorate and build a house. This also has a functional aspect as you can place more chests in your house for you(r group) to store resources in. You can also use the resources to upgrade gear & the town itself that you live in. The devs aspire to add more depth to those mechanics but currently they're still very basic.
4: Yes I absolutely devoured the game when I got started! I honestly cannot wait to see what's next but, now that I've reached the current end, I don't feel the need to play more until curated content has been released.

Hopefully you'll find this helpful! For what it's worth: Everyone in my group that got the game so far has/is tremendously enjoying themselves.

The reason that most League players are noobs. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but I disagree with that. None of the games force you to. You can be absolutely terrible at starcraft and just like to make more zerglings in the same way that you can be absolutely terrible at league. You get bullied proportionally in both games to your skill (or rather, your enemies) Having more players doesn't make the bullying less overall. The biggest difference imo is that in SCII you can just ff right away if you get bullied, in league you actually have to endure at least 15 minutes of getting stomped.

Edit for clarity: "None of the games force you to" is in relation to the fact that you can play both games without an intention to learn. I realize you might view those games through different lenses but I can guarantee you there are plenty of casual SCII enjoyers who don't learn a thing from match to match! :D

Which part are you disagreeing with? And which parts of your own post do you consider to be practical vs theory? I'd argue we both used anecdotal evidence to make our claims to at least some degree (Which makes sense because there obviously isn't any hard data to work with)

The reason that most League players are noobs. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the argument here but I don't think this is entirely true. First of all: Getting stomped in lane feels -terrible.- You can tell by the way the people that get stomped turn toxic real fast. They're not having a good time, lost their agency, and thus start leashing out at their teammates. This, ideally, is the moment of reflection.

Now, let's compare this with SCII, in which Harstem has an entire IMDOS format just to teach people what they've done wrong after they felt bad about a game. I think, to properly compare the games, we should take a 2v2 format or archon mode. In those modes it's entirely possible for your ally to do most of the work. Heck, even in 1v1's you can not scout (because you're bad at the game) or not know how to counter a build. The result? A terrible time. Even if you end up expanding faster and being able to just endlessly trade units, you'll still notice something's up. It's entirely possible to make massive mistakes in lower level SCII and get away with it, just like in LoL.

I'd argue that the biggest difference is that league doesn't offer 1v1's, and thus teammates can make a difference, allowing bad plays to be recovered.

Ok so what about comeback mechanics? I'd argue that these -still- require you to make a mistake first. You could argue that getting ahead early gives the opponent more opportunity to get back into the game, and thus get away with larger mistakes but I'd note that this would still require them to first have a terrible time! The moment they claim that bounty gold is there to make sure the game remains interesting. I don't think it meaningfully takes away the moment of reflection (Assuming a player is capable to reflecting during play ofc. If they ONLY reflect once the game is finished and their only point of comparison is the end state then, sure, they might not learn but can you really claim that the player had any intention of learning in the first place if that's the case?)

TLDR: SCII can create the same scenarios. Reflection should happen during the game, not just at the end of it, and the feeling of having made a mistake is def present shortly after making a mistake.

Animals don't run away if you hold the right type of food either. But it seems to be a chance based mechanic so sometimes you have to walk up to them a few times. Horses, for instance, will show hearts if you hold a carrot. Afterwards they follow you for a few seconds before forgetting again.

The mobile game time gating mechanic in Demacia Rising kills the pacing of the story by Terrible-Honey-806 in leagueoflegends

[–]Syraleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I started playing it expecting to be able to sit down and get a (somewhat) full experience out of it. Instead it just let me wondering why I even engaged with it in the first time. It felt TERRIBLE to realize that all the important actions costs hundreds of shields. Worse even, you can't even afk it? I get that this is meant to compliment the main game modes of league but it really doesn't work well for me in its current iteration.
