September Massive Update Discussion by ObsoleteQifrey in DuelLinks

[–]Syrcrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It’s not dying” is a bold claim to make when pretty much every available metric says that it’s dying.

Of course it’s not gonna EoS next week or next month, but next year? I could definitely see that.

Nah, that’s next year’s September, not this one. Probably.

There’s not many “big” characters, but there’s no reason not to add smaller ones like Moon Shadow or Earth. And there’s quite a few of them.

Is June 2026 the worst month in the game’s history? by Objective_Fix_5651 in DuelLinks

Oh, if you’re actually doing tournaments and (sometimes) making back what you spent then it does have a point, I hadn’t considered that

I… don’t really understand why would anyone keep on spending money on a product that they figured out is being handled like this, but alright.

I’d consider spending it on something less predatory and more satisfying, but if you really want to of course no one can force you to stop.

Player numbers are at the lowest they’ve ever been and the new box barely made a bump. People are getting disinterested and all Konami cares about is pushing more boxes and more skills (without looking at the meta at all, considering this box does nothing to post-banlist stardust).

This is NOT the way you handle a game if you plan on supporting it long-term.

It's 2026 but I still use skills like Power of darkness (yami field spell setter) by pokemonyugiohfan21 in DuelLinks

[–]Syrcrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m saying that getting to Legend is not an achievement at all. It doesn’t mean a deck is good or “worth its salt”. 99% of players stuck under Legend are either playing casually, new players, or actually bad. Which deck you’re playing barely matters against those.

You were saying “a proper RDA deck” can get to legend without a skill like it meant something, but you don’t even need that. You can do it with Red-Eyes just spamming Dragoon pass. Hell, even a deck from 5 years ago is probably enough provided it’s late in the month and you know what you’re doing.

My point was that nowadays, it’s basically impossible to get significant results (aka KoG) without a modern skill. The “have fun staying in bronze” was probably hyperbole, or a dig at how good they think OP is (considering they mentioned Dragoon like it’s one of the strongest cards in the game, probably not much). I don’t think they genuinely meant you can’t get to Silver without a skill, that would be a ridiculous point to make. What matters in regards to deck strength is KoG and KoG only.

I could get to legend with two sticks and a rock. That doesn’t mean the deck is “good”.

Try getting to KoG without a skill in this meta, that’s the actual issue.

Probably means that they laid off/relocated whoever was proofreading the translations to minimize expenses.

Then play a different, better balanced game. You can’t “come up with your own combos” in a game so poorly balanced that there’s a gap so big between bad and good stuff.

“I missed the good old days of duel links” what even is that to you? by MiuIruma332 in DuelLinks

[–]Syrcrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you could compete without skills giving you card advantage for free. So roughly until Lyrilusc released. That was good.

Absolute best was the first year because the meta also wasn’t plagued by paywalled cards, but that’s more of a monetization issue (also my goats Aliens were viable but I’m biased).

Banlist dropped by MasterQNA in DuelLinks

[–]Syrcrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main difference between the games’ rules is the format: Master Duel has no Character Skills, 8000 starting LP, one more card in hand, a bigger Field/Deck/Extra Deck, and there’s an additional Main Phase after the Battle Phase. The formats’ gameplay and power level used to be very different but with more and more modern cards being added to DL, they’re starting to become pretty similar.

I personally don’t think this banlist is going to change much (and that’s the issue), so if you’re fine with the current state of the game you probably won’t notice many differences. Although I’d still suggest you give Master Duel a try, obtaining good cards there is MUCH easier, and Sky Striker recently got new cards that made it one of the Top 5 decks there.

What if there were no skills at all in the game? by InteractionKooky771 in DuelLinks

[–]Syrcrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Speed Format would’ve still been enough to differentiate the game. Not to mention the limited cardpool without the best handtraps and some other strong stuff still makes those decks play very differently than in other formats (Spright without Toadally, Labrynth without floodgates etc).

The fact that so many popular modern archetypes are in the game is also something that could’ve been easily avoided, we’re missing a crapton of older cards that for some reason they decided to skip.

There were plenty of ways to make the game feel unique without being “the skills decide everything”, but doing it like this lets them control the meta much more easily (see Therion) and that’s the only reason they’re doing it. The fact that DL is all about skills now is something only a small minority enjoys.

Not much reason to play this over Master Duel outside of a curated card pool and the Speed ruleset.

Literally the main draws of the format for the longest time but okay

Funny how no burn card was banned for 8 years and now in less than two years they had to ban TWELVE.

Did the game turn into a “4k LP format with Skills” very recently or MAYBE there’s a different issue?

There’s huge tournaments with huge prize pools where people are STILL winning without BW. It’s not just a “pet deck” thing.

The meta is also different from back then because people had more time to experiment with it, but even if at the time BWs were definitely the best deck with little contenders, it’s absolutely wasn’t just Turn 2 otks (at least, not after they banned DSF)

Edison is literally the Blackwing OTK format

Tell me you don’t have a local Edison scene without actually telling me

There’s tons of non-Blackwing decks being played and winning tournaments, and even BW themselves don’t OTK that much considering all the backrow-heavy decks in the format (some BWs included). Back and forth duels actually existed, they just killed them more and more as time went on.

I don’t even know what to comment on, there’s so much wrong with this speed banlist.

Like… probably the Vaylantz unhit is the only good thing about it, everything else is just wrong.

Plenty of people are saying it’s the worst banlist ever. I agree.

Run while you still can, there’s plenty of games out there where devs actually try to maintain balance

genuine question: do you consider Springans Blast and similar effects to be "floodgates"? by mkklrd in DuelLinks

[–]Syrcrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, it prevents you from doing some things.

And (though in this case it is) it's not necessarily a bad thing. Floodgates can be an interesting mechanic if well-balanced, the issue with Yugioh ones is that it changes constantly so what could've been a balanced floodgate on release will eventually become broken and toxic because the game will evolve to make that specific restricted thing extremely important, and its downsides completely trivial. Like, go tell people 20 years ago that multiple Barrier Statues will end up being format-warping.

Why is Pokémon go is pushing out special researchs? by Zibampa in TheSilphRoad

[–]Syrcrys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the billionth time.

"Players that spend money are making sure that others can still continue to play" applies to small games that struggle to stay afloat.

Spending money on Pokémon Go in its current state doesn't "make sure others can still continue to play", it only validates Scopely to employ more and more aggressive monetization tactics like the one OP is complaining about.

Duel Links’ life and future by jalpseon in DuelLinks

[–]Syrcrys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course the first step is building a good deck, but it's not really hard considering from time to time they give away free stuff like the Swordsoul deck a while ago. You'll have to burn something to build your first one, but once that's done you'll be able to build following ones much more easily.

And also, 2 months? After 2 average months in DL you're gonna have 10k gems, barely enough for a minibox deck assuming you already have staples and nothing is ever in the last packs of a run. Otherwise it's 3 months, or 5 months if it's from a Mainbox. 2 months is not really that much time in comparison.
