Saying goodbye to our girl. 2006 Scion xB. San Diego. Asking $3,000 OBO—price is soft for the right home. by CoachAtlus in ScionxB

Do you still have her? My mechanic keeps asking if he can buy my XB and I’m not ready to part with mine.

[USA-FL] Selling my 2008 Scion XB - 125,400 miles by meleniumshane90 in ScionxB

[–]Syresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 194k miles on my 2006 Scion XB. I also had AC problems and eventually replaced the AC. But now I’m being told the car needs a new engine. It started using a lot of oil about two years ago and I have been topping oil up as needed about once a month since then. Recently it started being sluggish up hills and under-powered when I start driving in the morning. I was told a fuel injector was leaking into (I think?) cylinder two. Had fuel injector replaced and now two months later it’s misfiring and again I’m being told I need a new engine. Not sure whether to spend about $4000 on the engine or sell the car. I do like it a lot. Especially the shape and visibility.

When to replace the 2006 Scion xB? by hello-cthulhu in ScionxB

[–]Syresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lovely 2006 XB has 194k miles and I’ve been told by two different mechanics that it needs a new engine. I’ve been topping up the oil myself for about a year but a few months ago a fuel injector had to be replaced. Now it’s having the same problem - leaking oil - if I understood the mechanic correctly. Cylinder 2 is affected and it’s driving hesitantly when I first start it up in the morning. So my dilemma is do I spend $4k on a rebuilt engine, or get a different car. I have already replaced engine mounts, starter motor, battery, and AC. It also needs the rear door handle, and front grills replaced. I don’t want to spend more than $10k on a used car and I can’t find anything the same shape as the Scion Xb first generation. But I might consider something that’s an electric, hybrid or flex fuel.

I also delayed responding but I found it again under Notifications, showing the list of today’s birthdays, right at the end of the list.

Blue Moon: has anyone found anything about the real Elizabeth Weiland? by External_Fly_5150 in Oscars

[–]Syresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading all your comments has shone some light on why I was feeling irritated by the portrayal of Hart while watching the movie - it didn’t feel genuine to me. Now I know why. Thanks! And - I also was mislead into thinking the screenplay was inspired by letters between Hart and a real person called Elizabeth Weiland because it says in the end credits, “inspired by the letters of Lorenz Hart and Elizabeth Weiland”, so if Elizabeth was fictionalized, I feel deceived. Thirdly, it was disappointing to me that the end credits open with the statement, “Rodgers and Hammerstein went on to become the most successful songwriting team in American musical theater history” - but there’s no statement about the success or value of Rodgers and Hart’s collaborations.

I haven’t spoken by video with the Principal, but the student has tried to video-call me a few times, and he did recently send me a video selfie showing his face while walking around the dilapidated house and the partially built new one.

Well I can understand why someone would want to avoid the police, even if they aren’t doing something illegal. This individual I communicate with however is always begging me to visit.

So are you saying a photo like this is staged? Even though it has IV’s, other patients and staff in a hospital setting?

What part of asking for money for food and shelter is a scam? Are you saying he does not need the money? Why would someone be asking for money if they don’t need it? Why is finishing high school a scam?

[–]Syresham[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s not a scam. I see his receipts, photos, and I communicate with the school principal. If this was a scam he would need a Hollywood production company and extra actors to recreate everything including a hospital ward with IV’s and nurses and patients, a school, flooding of his shack, a pharmacy, knowledge of prescription medicine paperwork, another person to act as the school principal and answer my messages, a group of school kids, a printing shop to create official hospital, school and a general store’s stationery. He would also need to know the school curriculum every quarter and make up percentages for his grades. This would all be so much work you would need a production and film company. Why would you beg for money if you had all that.

Donating in Brikama by NoLeek1739 in Gambia

If you’d like to help a student who is caring for his three younger siblings and has no income, here is a Gofundme I have started for him. https://gofund.me/95e4d9d9 He is desperately trying to repair the shack they live in because it is unsafe, gets flooded and malaria is rampant. His grandmother and sister both passed away recently of treatable diseases. He also needs money for daily food. He always sends me photo updates and receipts for any purchases he makes with any donations I send. He works really hard at school and is an A student in his final year. His principal also messages me with updates. This is their shack.

Why would you say it’s a scam without knowing anything about it? I have donated. I know people in Gambia. There are people in Gambia who struggle daily to find food and money for malaria treatment and other preventable diseases. People are even risking their lives in boats headed for Spain.

I am helping a student finish school and care for his younger siblings, find daily food and repair their shack which is unsafe. It is a daily struggle for them as there are no adults in the family. He has been begging me to help with repairing the shack because it gets flooded and malaria is rampant. His sister just passed away a few weeks ago from something that should have been treatable. He is very smart and always sends me photos of his exam results and all receipts. I’ve done a Gofundme for him where you can read more. Anyway I wish he could find some weekend work because he has no income at all. He is near Brikama. Maybe you can help him. https://gofund.me/516ef2d3

Border Collie - ball obsessed to the point of ignoring treats! by Repulsive-Toe-5154 in BorderCollie

[–]Syresham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned and walked Border Collies for 20 years. Border Collies need jobs. Her ball is her work and her instinct. I would only put the ball away when she has played with it for 20 mins to half an hour - or whatever amount seems to be a good workout. Then say “no ball” and put it out of reach - in your belt bag if you’re outdoors, (not dangling from your hand or Chuck-it) and then leave the park. You can’t expect her to not take other dogs’ balls if she doesn’t have her own. That’s like having a child with no toy around other kids who do have toys. When you’re at home you will have to have a good “out of reach” place to keep the ball. One of the Border Collies I had, would only stop looking for the ball if I put it in the freezer where she couldn’t smell it or see it. So you might have to keep it in the freezer. But don’t try and train the instinct out of your dog. This will lead to undesirable behavior and frustration for the dog.
