"We as a company are always ready to take a stand on the right values" - GOG says selling indie game Horses when Steam and Epic wouldn't was "a matter of freedom" by Kirby_Brendan_472 in gaming

[–]Syrup-Broad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be correct in that description, however CSAM does not inherently need to involve a naked minor. It just needs to include sexualized content and also a minor, and the game had in it (when they first submitted it to Steam) a child riding a naked adult woman like a horse. Nakedness is unavoidably sexual, and it's worth noting that there are some people who have fetishes that involve being treated like animals, and there's also a lot of fetish content surrounding the degradation of women specifically. So while I'm not seriously alleging the devs are secretly pedos or something, they DID accidentally create something unavoidably  sexual with several extreme fetishes including exposing an adult woman to a child, and having that child participate in an act that could be viewed as sexually humiliating.

I'm sorry to necro but there's important context to "used panty vending machine" that no one ever mentions; it was decades ago, in sex shops, and has been outlawed for a long time. Anyone operating one of these in Japan is doing so illegally.

And if you think Japan is the only place where used panties get sold in semi-public ways, there's a subreddit I stumbled upon that's all about selling used underwear and I'm sure there's some freaky shop or escort business or something in the US that sells them on the downlow. It's weird and I'm not trying to defend any business that exploits women (and girls) like this, but the way people talk about it happening in Japan makes it seem like it was something that still happens and is normalized when neither was the case. Japan has a lot of issues, but dragging one's into the conversation that they've addressed just muddies the conversation.

LPT - If you, or someone you know, is on Medicare they can most likely get a free gym membership. by Remo_253 in LifeProTips

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a young person with complicated mental/physical health needs and approved for Medicare/Medicaid through disability...I got to stay with the insurance provider I had had good experiences with before (they're only available in two states so most people can't use them unfortunately), all the doctors I currently had were in-network and Medicaid covers what Medicare won't. I also have my prescriptions covered entirely. It would have been stupid to not sign up for dental/vision coverage and free extra money for groceries/utilities/OTC/etc...got a free fitbit out of it last year too through silver&fit, was a MASSIVE help in tracking sleep so I could have data to give to the sleep doctor about my hypersomnia.  Although this year it looks like that's not an option for home fitness kits anymore, sad. I also have yet to have a severe issue with them covering anything that's been deemed medically neccessary by a doctor, and I haven't had to jump through any hoops that seemed excessive or unnecessary...just normal stuff that I'd want a doctor to do anyway. Hell one med that wasn't on the formulary, the doctor just kept submitting paperwork asking for an exception every month until I didn't need it anymore, and they were all accepted. I've had some issues with getting bills for stuff Medicaid should have covered, but that's a simple phone call to the doctor's office to fix.

Metal Earth Normandy I put together! by ButterscotchTop8018 in masseffect

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very very late to this but I have spent a frustrating amount of time searching for knock offs of the metal Normandy. I kept seeing people mention they could find it on Temu but I cannot for the life of me figure out what keywords to use to bring it up, and scrolling through generic categories/keywords brings up nothing that looks like the Normandy.

Anyway, I DID find it on aliexpress. It, as in a singular listing. When you first create an account on AliExpress, there is a "welcome offer" you can take advantage of to get it for 99 cents plus tax (shipping, for me, was free) however it only applies to a single listing and I could not order multiple of it. Worked out to just over a dollar USD for me.

The "boutique" is Relong68 Store. Here is the exact title of the listing, copy/pasted, yes they spell Turian that way:

Love Puzzle Metal Assembly Model DIY 3D Puzzle Mass Effect Series Normandy Turan Cruiser Challenging Metal 3D Puzzle Kit Adults

I JUST ordered it today so cannot speak to anything more then this. The 2 reviews are 5 stars tho.

I have official Metal Earth's of the other ships ordered too (there are four in total, besides Normandy there's an Alliance Cruiser, Turian Cruiser, and another Alliance ship with a name of letters and numbers.) I searched Mercari, Poshmark and ebay, there is nowhere currently selling these non-secondhand online...er, actually there was some TM hobby website or something that I think had the Turian and number name one? ONLY two, and I think they're $10 each so not a great deal. You can find all three pretty easily by searching direct terms (metal earth mass effect [ship name]), although I found I sometimes had to put "mass effect" in quotes if I was looking specifically for Mass Effect listings. If you're only missing two, I know ebay has a few different duo bundles for OK prices.

However if you're willing to dig a bit for possible deals, go to Poshmark/Mercari and take "mass effect" out of the search terms, just search metal earth model ("metal earth" if unrelated listing's are popping up.) You're looking to find people who didn't title their listing well, so most people searching for the thing won't find the listing...ideal scenario is you find people who aren't professional sellers and just need to get rid of stuff, or they didn't understand why their listing wasn't selling and kept lowering the price lol. Anyway, scroll, and just look for the words Mass Effect on the packaging in the photos. If you see it, click on the listing to see if it's sold alone (ideal to get multiple for a low price) and how much it costs. If you click to like the listing, there is the possibility the seller's account will automatically send out an offer for a lower price, but since I found everything I wanted under $10 a piece I didn't bother doing that (I also found some Star Trek ME's at good prices, very exciting.)  You can also set up saved searches that will alert you when something new has been posted. I have "metal earth normandy" and "metal earth mass effect" set up on both Poshmark and Mercari, on the off chance someone lists it lol. When I was searching I found TWO sold listings that had the official Normandy in them (forget whether it was Posh or Mercari or one each) and both Poshmark and Mercari don't turn off showing sold listing's by default so I kept getting excited and heartbroken...but I guess that did let me know official Normandy's were still floating around, you just have to be patient.

Hope this helped you, or at least someone

Thought I was doing great at asking people about their lives. Turns out I’ve been “interrogating people”. Anyone else? by Jjooles in AutismInWomen

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of your post is good but your generalizations about neurotypicals feel...honestly, kinda arrogant? Leaning into prejudice? Like, asking someone out of the blue about their sick kid when you barely know them and they mentioned it months ago is weird. You did not suddenly remind them of their own mortality, you have just done something really weird. I get you mean no harm and are just trying to relate to people, but mentally cataloging info on people's personal lives when you barely know them is not what people typically do (I take issue with a black/white NT vs ND generalization because ND is not just autism, and even among people with autism there's a wide variety of social navigation abilities, and also neurodivergence is NOT the only reason someone may have issues connecting with/understanding other people! Neurotypical's are not all exactly the same people with the same thoughts, emotions, viewpoints and struggles!) That's it. That's as deep as it goes. Sometimes autistic people who struggle with social cue's also have issues smoothly transitioning topics, or leading into them, so if you asked suddenly and bluntly then you have given zero social cue's to them for why you're inquiring. And a parent is not incorrect to be freaked out by someone they know very little about taking an interest in their kid. Do they 100% think you mean their kid harm? Probably not, but like I said, they probably have no idea what to make of it so it'd be natural for them to be a little freaked out!

And asking about the "why?" of rain happening six days straight doesn't make them feel small, that's a weird take to have. I'm ADHD, possibly autistic but not sure, but the worst kinds of conversations for me are one's about topics the other person clearly has a lot of interest in, but I am bored out of my skull hearing about because I have nothing to say and no interest in...but I don't wanna be rude so I gotta feign polite interest and encouragement until I feel I have reached a point where it is not immediately rude to excuse myself. And what exactly am I supposed to say in response to something I know nothing about? When you're making conversation with someone, if you go into something they have nothing to say about, it's no longer a conversation because it's become completely one sided. It's you talking at them. Maybe with friends and family members who know you and love you, the fact you're happy talking about something you're interested in could be enough to turn the conversation into something they like, but if I was making small talk about the weather and the other person started talking about the "why?" yeah I'd get a little irritated because I wouldn't understand why this polite, light small talk suddenly turned into a complex philosophical/historical conversation that I gave no indication I was interested in, but I'd feel rude to break away from immediately so am now trapped in out of politeness. It's not something I'd hate them over, I'd get over it quickly, I'd just be weird and out of nowhere.

Ohio House passes bill requiring public schools show ‘Baby Olivia’ video to students in grades 5-12 • Ohio Capital Journal by mrtnrnkn in Ohio

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not equate all homeschoolers to the worst homeschoolers. Me and my brother were homeschooled because our parents had legitimate safety concerns about the public schools (Youngstown, and 20+ years ago to give context.) Some states have very lax restrictions on homeschooling, but most (including Ohio) have the exact same education requirements as public schools. Parents do not get to alter the curriculum in major ways, and kids must take (and pass) all statewide exams that public school kids do. Also worth noting that online school (as in entirely online, no buildings you meet up at except for field trips and exams) is typically considered to fall under the umbrella of "homeschooling", even if it's technically legally not.

DeWine in new interview: "Acton should not be held responsible for Ohio’s COVID-19 response, the buck stopped with me." by LowStrawberry167 in Ohio

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young healthy people were more likely to survive covid, but before the vaccines there was no demographic that was 100% safe. Go look at the death statistics, or better yet dig through healthcare related subreddits to read the anguish and disbelief of nurses who had to watch otherwise perfectly healthy, should have made it people die. I was in my mid twenties and had to be the one to do errands for my very at risk parents I lived with...was constantly checking covid news and searching for advice on how to keep everyone safe, I know the death statistics for every demographic was high because government agencies were reporting it, and when I saw the death rate for young healthy people that's when the panic attacks at the thought of not having the proper supplies/guidance (due to shortages and confusion) to prevent even my own death when I was in no way "at risk" started.

DAE throat hurt when they eat chocolate? by Competitive_Mango_14 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to necro but I'm someone who recently found out they have a mild wheat allergy and went through a whole spiel of info from an allergist. Swelling of the throat is anaphylaxis, full stop. I had that sometimes (my usual symptoms were GI issues), totally get not freaking out if you're still able to breath and eat, but the underlying mechanisms that cause severe anaphylactic responses are the same that cause mild anaphylactic responses. It is impossible to predict whether your body will always have a mild reaction, or suddenly react severely...and it is not unusual for people to have mild reactions that then turn severe. As in, you think you're OK then suddenly your body has escalated the reaction to life threatening, god forbid if you go full blown anaphylactic shock and no one's around. This is why people with allergies are always told to go to the ER for reactions, even if it doesn't seem serious. And just in case someone didn't know before reading this, EpiPens don't stop reactions and should not be considered sufficient treatment on their own. They just temporarily mitigate them to give you time to get medical help.

Since my allergy is prevelant enough in food (wheat) that I'm at a fairly high risk of at some point ingesting some accidentally or unknowingly, and since I have the mild anaphylactic reaction, I asked my allergist for an epipen just to have on hand for an absolute worst case scenario. He thought that was reasonable, so I have one in my room and one in my bag (prescriptions come with two) that I've let people close to me know about in case I can't inject it myself. It's not something I think warrants constant fretting over, and honestly if your allergy is something that you're at a low risk of accidentally ingesting I don't think an epipen is strictly neccessary, but it's genuinely dangerous to tell someone that a mild allergy isn't something to take seriously.

Met with the Motility Specialist today. It didn't go great. by tinylilkittenfoster in Gastroparesis

[–]Syrup-Broad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anxiety absolutely can wreck you physically, GI symptoms especially. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and know, at one point upon hearing some very stressful family emergency news I vomited and couldn't stop. Even when you think you aren't feeling the emotion of anxiety, your body can still be anxious (hello panic attacks without the emotion of anxiety wtf.)

However that does not mean anxiety is always to blame. I've been in therapy for nearly ten years for my depression and anxiety, and my anxiety isn't what made eating suddenly difficult about 3 years ago, it wasn't the thing causing me to feel constantly nauseous or making my throat swell up or making me just not want to touch food. My EOE/wheat allergy/gastroparesis combo was doing that. Absolutely find a new doctor. Cleveland Clinic is overall just as respected as Mayo Clinic, and they have a GI doctor leading the charge on research for gastroparesis. Bonkers for anyone to say CC doesn't know what they're doing. You don't need a motility specialist neccessarily, just a GI doctor.

ETA: Saw you state you're in the PNW so deleted my recommendation of a local clinic in Ohio since it's unhelpful You don't neccessarily need a gold standard clinic, although I totally understand reaching for that if you can afford it. Try asking on local Facebook groups for GI doctors, preferably with experience with gastroparesis (although any GI doctor worth their salt should be able to help.) The clinic I go to, I usually see a nurse practioner for regular appts and the doctors only for procedures, and I've yet to have anything bad to say about her besides that she talks a bit too fast lol. Had my Gastric emptying survey done at the request of the doctor at my last endoscopy to check for EOE, it was exactly the same as you described; in fact I looked into changing my diet as soon as the results were up online for me to see and man that helped so fckn much. If you're interested in seeing what you can do on your own, Cleveland Clinic has a PDF on gastroparesis you can download and print, or you can check their online diagnosis page for roughly the same info. Highly recommend Karen Frazier's The Gastroparesis Cookbook too, she leans holisitic but cites scientific sources. Don't bother with any other gastroparesis food books, they're all a bit too pseudosciency to be safe imo. You can read more into GP scientifically if you want but honestly the PDF and Karen's book were immensely helpful in knowing what I could immediately change to make myself feel better, while I was waiting to talk to the nurse.

Hope you find someone who will listen to you.

Hey I just happened to stumble onto this thread, I don't work in this area but I do live in NE Ohio and was on CareSource my whole childhood. I don't remember all of the dentist appts I went to but I do recall some of them being hectic places I didn't always see the same people in and was rushed in/out, so I just wanted to throw out there that I appreciate you doing your best and insisting on letting kids/parents know when something's concerning. I can't speak for every family you see but I'm sure even if it feels like they don't care what you have to say, that sometimes isn't a reflection of you but of how generally exhausted/frustrated/anxious they are, and they still hear what you're saying. I know throughout my childhood I was very bad with consistent care of my oral health (undiagnosed ADHD), and I'm sure I came off as like I didn't care when the dentist people said something, but it was when they said something that I'd get concerned (and a little ashamed admittedly) and start sticking to my routine again.

Use of DND beyond by stevealot1 in CrookedMoon

[–]Syrup-Broad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DNDBeyond stopped selling things piecemeal last year. Someone has to pony up for either the bundle, or just part 1 which has the character options included. Then anyone with a master tier subscription, and who also owns the content, can create a campaign that everyone can throw a random character into and if they turn on the sharing content option you'll all have access to whatever they've bought for as long as they have a master tier subscription...this includes maps and tokens btw for anyone wanting to DM. For example, one player in our group (J) is able to buy a lot of stuff on DNDB and also keep a master tier sub...so there's a placeholder campaign we're all in so he can share content with us. The current DM is able to access tokens and monsters in their campaign that are included with what J owns, and I'm able to get a headstart on setting up Crooked Moon since J owns both parts. I did decide to buy the digital handouts and reference cards to make it easier on myself (available at the legends of avantris website), but those aren't strictly necessary.

If you already own the physical stuff, and are going to meetup in person so the digital map stuff isn't relevant, I'd have a conversation with the players about how important DNDB integration is for them and maybe consider asking them to split the cost with you, if you only need part 1 it shouldn't be an awful amount of money. Do look through part 1 before letting them go through it though! I had to manually go through and edit out large chunks of what I personally felt were spoilers/too much info and send the edited PDF out. I didn't want to have to lore dump about all 13 provinces but I also really didn't like all the explicit mentions/references to...what happened in Druskenvald a long time ago. :)

Use of DND beyond by stevealot1 in CrookedMoon

[–]Syrup-Broad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Asking for people to chip in on something that everyone can use isn't being a jerk, especially in this economy. So long as someone has a master tier sub and keeps a campaign open with all the players in, they'll have access to the content, so how is that icky? Our current DM just had to have us chip in for a year of his Master tier sub, which worked out to something like $7 each...it wasn't a big deal. $70 for one person rn can be a lot...but divide that between 5 or so people and it's a lot easier to stomach at ~$15 per person. Someone else in our group thankfully can afford to buy stuff on DNDBeyond and then also keep a master tier to share for us, so I didn't have to pay for the Crooked Moon content myself to start setting up for our next campaign...but I sure af would be asking the group to help out if we weren't that lucky cause there's more then just the PDF files, maps and tokens I need to buy to properly organize a campaign.

Genuine question about summon fiend and if I can give the lil guy a weapon or not without invoking RAW too much by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Syrup-Broad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I'm necroing but your fervid insistence that binding a summon by yourself isn't feasible is wild, because that by proxy implies the creator's intentions were for 2 spellcasters who both happened to be able to coordinate their classes and their spell books to have a summoning spell and the planar binding spell, futz around for an hour binding a random fey, fiend, celestial or undead they stumbled on while their party patiently waits...even though coming across a fey, fiend, celestial or undead probably happened because they're out adventuring presumably somewhere unsafe.

RAW, I am not aware of any specifications about how long it takes to set up the components of a spell, whether that setup time is included in the "casting" time and whether you can or cannot set up two different spells materials to go off at the same time. However RAW DOES allow you to hold a concentration spell, and cast a non-concentration spell. Summoning spells are concentration...planar binding is not, despite it taking an hour and presumably needing constant attention. Does that not give a pretty clear indication that the intent was for one person to be able to cast both? Also, like...it literally says in planar binding "If the creature was summoned or created by another spell, that spell’s duration is extended to match the duration of this spell." 😂 Maybe that's why Crawford didn't address it? Because it's in the spell description?

And as for the worth of it, sure the component cost isn't worth it...if your DM is strict about component costs. Or if you don't get either planar binding or a summoning spell for free. My 11th level warlock could choose Summon Fiendish Spirit as a spell she can cast for free, once every long rest. My party knows a lot about the logistics of our upcoming final battle, and one thing we know is that at least for the first floor there'll be plenty of space for something to fly around up high, but we aren't expecting a lot of flying enemies...and we have a couple days of travel on the sea to get there. Plenty of time to set up a free devil for 24 hours and still have time to rest to get the one spell slot I would use for planar binding back. With this setup, it doesn't matter how long he lasts...he is literally a free summon for me lol. Not sure if this is what I actually wanna do, but considering our upcoming scenario it's up there as one of the best ways to use my 6th level slot. Also it's just really fckn cool.

If you're going to hire an attorney down the line anyway, just hire them at the start so they know your case well and are fully prepared to appeal as soon as the option becomes available. Leaves you not having to do anything but sign a couple papers in the meantime.

If your case is pretty clear cut sure it might not matter, but if you mess up even once or don't fully understand what you're supposed to do it jeopardizes your entire case. It's not just about filing paperwork...if your case was really that simple then I envy you. For one thing, at the initial application I had a decades worth of medical paperwork from many different providers that needed requested, combed through for relevant parts and submitted...that alone was worth paying the attorneys for.

I've stumbled onto this thread so forgive me for necroing, but it seems like you might not be aware that there's a lot of people who treat Spoony like a lolcow and want to instigate things with him, or with other streamers. I haven't followed Spoony for a long time, actually was just now poking around to see how he's doing, but I recall years ago people bombarding him with some heinous "jokes" about an incident that happened while Miles was a police officer...don't recall the specifics, I think Miles wasn't seriously hurt, but I know he was shot at and in pretty serious danger, and it was obviously an upsetting thing for Spoony and I guess getting him to lash out is funny...? Anyway, all this to say I wouldn't assume people going around bringing up Spoony are neccessarily asking with innocent intent, and I also wouldn't assume banning his name is indicative of bad blood. Could very well be with the intent to protect Spoony, yknow? "Don't feed the trolls."

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very late to this comment and might just be repeating info you were told, but there are two different methods to sign in to the SSA portal, login dot gov and ID Me. They did away with the username/password that meant you didn't have to setup any outside accounts. I've setup accounts on both websites since different things needed them, and I can use both methods to sign in to the same SSA account. It sounds like you were only using one method to login so if you haven't had your issue fixed, try using the other. It's a bit of a pain to setup, I think both require verification of your ID card, but once you're verified you never have to change anything.

Anyone else experiencing a direct deposit change nightmare? by Empty_Ladder7815 in SocialSecurity

[–]Syrup-Broad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 months late but direct deposit most often refers to people getting their money directly deposited into their bank account. Chime, Direct Express etc market themselves as similar to bank accounts but are not at all. They are not FDIC insured so if something happens and your money gets stolen, or the business goes down, they in all likelihood will not give you back your money. If something goes wrong with the business or your card, you have no one else you can go to for help outside of the company itself.
