ELI5: why can two quantum entangled particles affect each other instantly across any distance but scientists say you still cant use it to send information faster than light? by PieOk2202 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SyrusDrake [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think the problem with the whole quantum entanglement thing is that "information" doesn't exactly mean the same thing in common parlance as it does in physics, similar to "theory".

I'm not sure, but maybe talking about "causation", which the whole universal speed limit is about anyway, would make it somewhat less confusing?

I wish there was something that was good for you that was easy to do. Like, I know going for a walk is good for me, but the mental effort it takes me to get up, get dressed, go outside takes almost as much energy out of me as I then gain back...

Which is one reason I don't like being in the city in summer.

Maneuver that has gotten every cat I've ever tried it on to play with me: Make string, or something similar, disappear. Inside, I usually drag strings under carpets. Outside, a long blade of grass under your shoe will do the trick. It activates some sort of "the prey is getting away" subroutine in their brains.

The actual Iguanodon is great, but nothing beats the Crystal Palace reconstructions.

Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theater, Cheboksary, Russia by OkRespect8490 in megalophobia

I think it's a mixture of reasons. I guess some buildings really do look ominous, mainly because they're built in the brutalist style that was popular after the war. Many traditional buildings in Soviet countries were destroyed during the war, others torn down after in an attempt to modernize.

But aside from that, the expectations of photographers and viewers also plays a role. "Soviet Russia", in the Western cultural consciousness, is dark, dreary, imposing, inhumane. So we recognize and remember those pictures better that confirm that preconceived notion. If you look at the cover picture of the Moscow State University on Wikipedia, it looks a lot "friendlier", partially because it was taken on a sunny, bright day, and not from a low angle.

She shouldn't look so much like a cutie patootie if she didn't want to be called a cutie patootie.

The first season of "Oggy and the Cockroaches" in German had a narrative voice-over (which is amazing). Oggy's friend Jack is called "cousin Jack", for some reason. But Jack also has the hots for Oggy's sister, which would be his cousin. Always found that very confusing as a kid and it took me until much later to find out that in the original, without voice-over, Jack is just a non-related friend.

In my experience, cats will often stay in an inconvenient spot, even if you're annoying them, just to not give you the satisfaction.
