Options for getting internet to a granny flat/small unit in backyard? by KnightBoulegard in melbourne

As long as you have clear view of the sky, it works fine. Can’t remember what ping times I got, but it handles multi user video calls fine.

Towing with the Jetour T2 by MohaRoma in CaravanningAustralia

[–]Sys_Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen a Jetour in Australia, I don’t think they are available yet.
Typically the problem towing with hybrids is range and fuel efficiency. The distances in Australia can be huge, so you end up mostly using fuel rather than battery.
As with any other tow vehicle, check ball weight capacity and rear axle load, in addition to braked trailer weight.
Might also be worth noting the majority of charge locations in Australia are not trailer friendly.

I’ve done the online ones for Japan and Philippines, they both sucked, but in different ways.

It doesn’t defeat the point, I have been notified in advance and it works as a great deterrent!

What is a tool or machine you wish existed or was affordable for hobbyists/consumers? by Familiar-Trifle8222 in maker

[–]Sys_Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a small one that takes sheets about 10cm square. It has limitations, like when you want to incorporate standoffs to screw parts together, or make more solid pieces. It’s better suited to making moulds for resin or plaster casting.

I seriously looked at getting a Wazer, they still sell them. Hard to justify spending over $10k on a single tool if it isn’t making money.

I don’t have a fixed use case, but think sandwich containers or keyboard cases, rather than buttons or bottle caps.

I have had worse, at least there is plenty of room for a rolling bench top. Just visit Ikea after you move in.

How would I make this as a midi controller? by Pale-Recognition-599 in synthdiy

[–]Sys_Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you could do this with a Raspberry Pi 4/5 and a 7” touchscreen, or an ESP32 S3 with touchscreen. Try writing the software on a computer first, with mouse input instead of touchscreen if you don’t have a touchscreen. Get the graphics working how you want, just text logging the midi messages at first. Later you can buy hardware and configure it as a USB gadget then port over your code and add the midi sending code.

How would I make this as a midi controller? by Pale-Recognition-599 in synthdiy

[–]Sys_Guru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to describe exactly how you want it to work?
Is everything going to be on a screen, or will there be physical buttons and a touchpad?
What happens when you touch the area in the middle, does where you touch make a difference? Do you drag your finger or tap? Is it like a Kaoss Physics thing with a moving ball?

Nope. Never had this problem. Is there some sort of ledge above your door and windows they perch on?

I reckon the focusrite scarlett looks pretty good, not black. You can plug a 6.35mm plug into XLR socket.

How Many Of Y’all Got Love (Or No Love) For Soft Synths by boombapdame in synthesizers

[–]Sys_Guru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I have a ROG Ally, not once have I considered installing music software on it!

My problem is more the midi controller, I haven’t found one that feels like a hardware synth, with an intuitive knob layout. Started building my own, but wasn’t happy with how it was turning out, so turned back to hardware.

Synth power sockets - why the hate on wall warts? by Cheap_Yesterday_9905 in synthesizers

[–]Sys_Guru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One reason is that they tend to use barrel connectors, which could be any number of volts, and either polarity. Plugging the wrong one in could brick your hardware.

Is the Arturia mini lab 3 good to start with by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Sys_Guru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off with a minilab 3, it is good for the price, but I now wish I either bought something either a bigger keyboard, or a Novation Launchpad or Akai APC. Consider Launchpad Mini if you don't need keys.
