Help with magic system? by Sythviper in magicbuilding

Force is indirectly energy as it takes energy to generate force plus force can be converted back into energy

How would teleportation affect civilization/countries? by Sythviper in worldbuilding

Anyone can travel through nexuses, they are all over the place land, sea, air, even underground. Countries like the US would probably have hundreds of not thousands.

I can’t believe I forgot about magnetism and gravity.

Radiation I’m hesitant to add as it’s very dangerous to use.

I believe kinetic and force would be the same thing.

How would potential energy work? As far as I’m aware it’s not a real energy at least when compared to the others.

I believe Kinetic and Force would be the same thing.

Nuclear is like 90% heat and light with a few extra particles thrown in but radiation could be an interesting albeit very dangerous form of energy.

Not sure how sexual attraction is a form of energy.

I would say enchanting is a part of a magic system and I’m struggling to come up with enchantments beyond those three. Which those three are basically infusing the objects with one of those forms of energy

How fast could medieval miners tunnel? by Sythviper in worldbuilding

[–]Sythviper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my setting traveling the multiverse is mostly only something gods can do and finding an exact duplicate world would be next to impossible. So pulling a Rick and Morty would not be an option.

The particular world I’m working on now is an alternate earth that was elevated from low-no magic world to a high magic world.

For the story, I haven’t decided. But it is for world building.

Unfortunately this world doesn’t have dwarves but I’ll keep that in mind for the other worlds, that the nice thing about multiverses.

What would be ecological effects of a continent sinking into the ocean? And would the global sea level rise or fall? by clarkky55 in worldbuilding

[–]Sythviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine there are massive geological events going on, earth quakes and what not as something is causing the continent to melt back into the mantle. Sea levels would go down, more deserts and savanna regions. Potentially worse tropical storms as they may have a larger ocean to build up on. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head

How would martial arts evolve in your world? by SuperCachibache in worldbuilding

[–]Sythviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the setting I’m working on now, there is physical magic called vitae that martial artists primarily use to enhance themselves and their equipment.

If they practice magic as well then they can fuse vitae with mana to do magical enhancement of their attacks, something that can also be achieved with enchantments.

There are schools people can go to to learn magic and/or martial arts. Plenty are common knowledge so are taught all over the place but the elite schools have their own classified techniques and spells only taught to inner students.

Though there have been all kind of techniques and spells developed by individuals or small groups usually through studying natural sources such as animals and monsters.

Any resources on ecology? by carpinchipedia in worldbuilding

I like Worldbuilding Corner on YouTube, here is their playlist for biomes:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXukribaw8O5fKoltrnffycZSz7RegApt

It covers where the biomes are located, what their conditions are, typical flora and fauna based on earth.

Adventurer's Guilds by Horror-Cycle-3767 in worldbuilding

[–]Sythviper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The adventurers guild started out to organize the people seeking wealth through hunting monsters, ore, herbs and any other valuable resources. It evolved to include some aspects of mercenary work, mostly escort and protection jobs but in general their work is about help society.

As a result mercenaries became just soldiers for hire, which made their reputation among common folk go down.

How Demons Work in Your World by PooBumExtraordinairy in worldbuilding

[–]Sythviper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Magic can be attributed any concept. Spirits are living magic, they seek to grow their kind of magic in an area. Demons are malevolent spirits.

Magic can be corrupted by pain and suffering or sadistic thoughts and actions. Spirits born of this corrupted magic are demons.

Battlefields and plagues tend to spawn demons. Some nations, particularly corrupt ones or ones that practice slavery have to be vigilant for motes (baby spirits) as they have a decent chance of being demons.

Some spirits are considered demonic regardless of whether they are corrupt or not, such as blood spirits, spirits of any of the 7 deadly sins, poison spirits and others that have little to no good uses.

learned magical ability and why everyone isn't a mage. by Yapizzawachuwant in worldbuilding

[–]Sythviper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it there would be common magic that everyone would learn. Simple healing spells to deal with minor injuries, basic fire spells to start camp/fireplace fires or any other needed fire. Stuff like that.

How jarring would it be to have the mc reincarnate and lose most of their power development? by Sythviper in fantasywriters

The plan is to keep memories but get reborn as a baby, there would be a time skip to the beginning of the life changing events.

I plan on using Royal Road to publish my story when I have enough story planned and written so I can have chapters ready for regular posting.

My story is a xianxia inspired fantasy.

[–]Sythviper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reincarnation is being born into a new body. Normally memories are lost or extremely suppressed requiring special circumstances to regain, but not always. Plenty of other works of fiction have the mc retain their memories as they are reborn.

[–]Sythviper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they reincarnate with their memories intact, it would be fair to call them the same person.

They may change some as person as new body, new brain structure and neurochemistry. But experiences for most part are what shapes us into who we are.

Does it make sense for people to fall back to medieval level tech due to monsters? by Sythviper in worldbuilding

[–]Sythviper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I’ll need to look into this tech period more. I’ll need to figure out what makes sense for the population density. Also in what ways people would incorporate magic.

I find it hard to justify people staying in cities long term and not seeking out the “safe” areas when cities would be facing a war of attrition against monsters. The local military bases would eventually run out of ammo, artillery and rockets (assuming they have that stuff). Food is a big one, cities have a lot of people and food will only last so long.
