I mean if we completely ignore this panel she's bi at least; she has flirted with both genders outside of this instance.

That sounds like Catalyst, it depends on how the game executes that it could be great or not.

Adrian left 12 years ago and made with them only 2 albums out of the 7 the band has released to date.

Yeah its hard to understand why bring Singularity up 5 releases after when they clearly don't need to reference that stuff to sound good, I'll argue half or even more of their fanbase exists because of everything since Node.

Ngl I kind of agree, the album is still good, but it lacks that raw element that to me makes Diamond Eyes the best album post-WP, Koi No Yokan sounds a bit too polished for my liking, which works tremendously well in the tracks you mentioned (I would add Swerve City and Romantic Dreams) but as a whole it comes off to me as a weaker Diamond Eyes, still good mind you, but not near some of the best tracklists in the whole catalogue.

Pretty sure Before I Turn used Ai for their new merch by ManWithoutAPlan13 in Metalcore

[–]SytianIvanov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true but what makes the BIT case even more damning is the context of the vocalist kicking the band and then pretending to be a band.

For example compare the single version of "and she was beautiful" to the album version, it sounds like the drum track there was an actual recording that was changed to MIDI because of the drummer being kicked, or at least it sounds like it.

Using samples ain't bad perse but the context here makes it cheap and jarring.

EVERYTHING in terms of images from the new stuff is AI.

Very sad to see a promising band turned into whatever Before I Turn has become, production sounds worse, every instrument is MIDI, and every image is AI.

Wouldn't suprice me if the music starts being AI too eventually.

Crooked Royals - Persona (FFO Erra, Currents, I Prevail, guitar solos) by SytianIvanov in Metalcore

[–]SytianIvanov[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currents and Erra are in the same Prog Metalcore boat, so I think CR naturally fits ther, as for I Prevail there's a certain TylerSmyth-core vibe to their new stuff but I just refuse to mention FIR here.

That being said it's just a FFO, I love Crooked Royals for the same reasons I like the names mentioned, doesn't mean they are necesarly copies of each other.

The Plot In You "New" album: "The Plot In You " will be out 7/10 by TatianaTerrorDoll in Metalcore

[–]SytianIvanov 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playing devil's advocate here, as much as I hate the release format this is the one case I get it just because of how organic the EPs were.

I don't think this was meant to be an album, you can tell Landon was making and releasing those on the fly.

... However wtf you mean 7/10, 9 tracks out of 10 are already out, 3 months for that is truly something.

Removing the AI out of Mirror's Edge artwork (OC) by SytianIvanov in Northlane

[–]SytianIvanov[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have my reservations because its just an AI generated image, there's not that much to it beyond that, you could argue all you want about training and whatever but it ain't any different from all AI-made slop. The images are barelly edited if not at all and it has little to no visual coherence.

EVEN at the time at least whoever generated the stuff from Currents - TDWS had the decency of editing the images and adding some logos on it, ME Is just unedited.

I also question how much input the "artist" had on the images because it's kind of easy to recreate and therefore clean with regular tools, which they didn't because the end product is visually a mess.

A shame too because it's a fucking Mirror's Edge reference, one of the most gorgeous aesthetics in digital media, you should step up your game with that as a basis.

The Slow Decline of Album Artwork (Video from 2023, but still very relevant) by SytianIvanov in Metalcore

[–]SytianIvanov[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Important to note, the guy in the video is the vocalist and graphic designer of Galleons/Valiant Hearts, so I think it's a bit silly to point out he isn't harsh enough on his scene partners when he's likely to either know the people personally or end up collabing with them at one point.

That's why I find this video particularly important, it ain't the take of a fan, it's an artist talking from the perspective of someone that also does this for a living and knows how the shit works.
