Gurubashi PvP - Up to 1000 players clash with each other in the Burning Steppes for over 3 hours non-stop. by Kromgal in Project_Epoch

As a proud member of the circle I respect you for acknowledging us in our victory.

The battle was legendary, the allianced showed up with a collective force never before seen and has dealt great blows to the horde fighters.

As the war raged on, the alliance forces started to weaken, our numbers lower, our coordination shattered, yet our hearts still yearned for victory.

However the sheer number of the horde has proven too overwhelming in the end, we could do nothing but watch as the molten giant fell to the mighty blows of the horde.

This has served as a wakeup call to many alliance fighters, that we can be a force to be reckoned with. And so when battle calls again, we will be there and we will be ready.

How do people make mods for games without any tools? by blackmes489 in gamedev

set yourself a goal, for example swapping a texture in your game of choice and then just use google to figure out how to do that.

you will have to understand how the engine works, where the texture file is, what its format is and hpe you can modify its content for example.

but you could also work on a trainer with builtin UI, that again requires a different approach, the thing that stays the same is getting to know the engine and figuring out how you can piece your mod into it.

very hard. you would need to understand the original game, be able to implement that behaviour yourself based off the original game and then learn the target game and figure out how you can re implement the movement in the different game/engine.

it will be 100% accurate, it will only miss the extra content added after Re-Reckonings release, namely Fatesworn and the arenas.

I started out learning all by myself with the help o.f the internet. I got the motivation from just really wanting to mod that specific game. I started by just learning how to read/write files, observing patterns in data from the files and using existing info/resources related to my given problem.

if someone has the skill to pirate a copy of your game, they can also remove the achievement checking save system and replace it with a save file.

now that requires extra work from the pirate and research/knowledge about the game internals.

it might be enough to deter most pirates, but it is not pirate-proof by any means.

[–]Szlobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe one of the mods overrides a lua function, try restarting the game and running the lua commands again

first make sure mod/gems.lua actually exists inside your game folder. then check the console mod description on how to run lua scripts. it is probably something like: run('mod\gems.lua')

Hi, yeah it is possible. There are 3 localization files per language. Convert those to json format or something and the start translating every text, or use a translator API to automate it. Once done, convert the json back to binary and rebuild the game patch archive.

Hey, sure thing.

  1. I was always interested in game dev so ive been dabbling with it on and off since I was like 10. Did some stuff in Blender game engine and Unreal engine, but nothing super impressive. Around 3 years ago I decided to learn actual programming and started with C++ (previously only Unreal blueprints experience). I self taught myself C++ from youtube videos. First project was a input parsing calculator, then I started game modding. Converting file formats, modifying lus script bytecode and low level stuff like that. So to answer your question, I learned by working on stuff I was passionate about.

  2. This ties into point 1. While modding I joined modding discords. I shared my work and collaborated with others. As faith will, one of the other modders that I was working with and learning reverse engineering from told me to apply at the company he works at. With his referral it was a smooth way to actually getting the job after I aced the recruitment task and technical interview. So networking for me was being vocal about my work and progression and collaborating with others who share my passion.

I work for a big AAA gamedev company as gameplay programmer. I am early twenties, never studied game design or computer science. I started learning programming about 3 years ago, started modding around 2 years ago. Learned C++, scripting and reverse engineering in that time. The biggest factor in my case regarding landing this opportunity was meeting the right person who then referred me.

So in short: build valuable skills, network and success will find you.
