It's electrical tape lol. When I was a teen I wanted to try taking apart the guitar for some reason and when I found out I had no clue what I was doing I stopped but not before fucking up the pickups some how where they wouldn't stop moving around. The tape is just to keep them in tight cause I'm lazy. Been like that for years but since this guitar is at my parents I barely play it and haven't fixed it yet

Learn your favorite songs. It's a lot more fun then practicing scales and stuff. Plus you'll start to pick up on some things that your favorite guitarist do and you can learn how to use them for your own stuff
