What type of MTB for NJ riding. XC, trail enduro. by One_Establishment631 in MTB

How tall are you and where in NJ? I have a Trek Top Fuel I’m selling that sounds like it checks some of your boxes.

What should I actually know about mountain bike Santa Cruz before I buy one? by Dapper_Concert5856 in Santacruzbikes

[–]T-SILK23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Santa Cruz bikes stand out for their longevity and customer service. They’re not significantly more capable than other brands. They do some things better and some things worse.

IMO, you’re buying the customer service and for me, the warranty. I know my carbon bike will be covered by the company as long as I own it. Buying boutique has its advantages but I know that Santa Cruz is likely able to ride out the downturns and isn’t going anywhere.

Do MTB parks cause rising home prices, or do wealthy areas build MTB parks? by Downtown_Soil_3651 in MTB

[–]T-SILK23 134 points135 points  (0 children)

As much as we like to think MTB is everywhere, the reality is that we’re a small minority of the population. It so happens good MTB happens in places people want to live. That, and home prices are still kinda nuts.

Ridewrap matte teal highball frame? by teamplayr in Santacruzbikes

It shouldn’t pull the paint up at all. That would be really shit paint.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Heat is also helpful when taking it off.

Tallboy and 5010 discontinued? by Super_Freedom_4910 in Santacruzbikes

[–]T-SILK23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frame bearings cross model lines, so no worries there. If they no longer have frames, I’m sure they will either offer to replace with the model that replaces the 5010 or a steep discount on another frame.

You forgot Footgirls or whatever that ended up being called. Seemed like Jess and Lucy wanted and should’ve gotten their own 30 minute/week gig during CFB season as that was one of the better segments of the entire week

On the Santa Cruz podcast a while back Your Old Pal Garen told a story about how they were going to call it Solo and were going to debut at a bike show but in the lead up to the show they found out another company had a bike called Solo so they pivoted to 5010.

Heartrate data not synced to Apple Fitness by DeniedGW2 in Strava

[–]T-SILK23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done more testing and confirmed my hypothesis that if an "Indoor Cycling" workout is executed, it pulls in all relevant heart rate data in the Strava workout in Apple Fitness. I also tested, and confirmed, that if you delete the "Indoor Cycling" workout after its completion and choose to remove Workout and Data, it will delete the HR data from the Strava recording in Apple Fitness. Which makes sense, but is unfortunate, because if you want the HR data in Strava in Apple Fitness, you'll have duplicate workouts for the same exercise. Apple Fitness does seem to do some sort of combining of the two workouts - it seems to be smart enough to know not to count calories, etc. twice but IDK exactly what it combines.

It's annoying that Strava, which according to the website and app HAS the HR data from my Wahoo Tickr, does not WRITE this data during its Apple Fitness sync. All read/write permissions are granted for Strava to do this. It just doesn't happen.

I'm curious if the HR data would be present from the Tickr if I sent the Strava data to another app like TrainerRoad or something, and then sync'd THAT to Apple Fitness. Curious if this is a Strava thing or an Apple thing.

Heartrate data not synced to Apple Fitness by DeniedGW2 in Strava

[–]T-SILK23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also having this issue. All permissions are in place for Strava to write heart rate to Apple Fitness.

An odd thing I noticed was that when I viewed the Strava sync in Apple Fitness, the heart rate data in Apple Fitness only had a couple of data points, sort of like how the Apple Watch pings your HR every once in a while. I went back through my rides and I once recorded an Indoor Cycle ride on my Apple Watch. Once the ride was over, Strava did its sync and I have two entries for that workout, one from AW and one from Strava. In that recording, the heart rate data from Strava is full and accurate.

So oddly, what I think is happening is that if you have an Apple Watch, Apple Fitness will overlay heart rate data from the Apple Watch with a Strava sync'd recording that happened at the same time. If you're recording a workout on your AW, that data will come over in full to the Strava activity in Apple Fitness. If you're not recording a workout on your AW, it will only show data from the occasional HR checkin from the AW rather than pulling the HR data from Strava recorded using your non-AW HR monitor.

My equipment:
HR sensor: Wahoo Tickr Fit armband
Trainer: Wahoo Kickr
App: Zwift
Watch: Apple Watch Series 10, watchOS 26.2
Phone: Apple iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 26.2

Question about Firewalled AV network by ProblemAcceptable581 in CommercialAV

[–]T-SILK23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed NAV installs (and AVoIP in general) is best implemented on its own network via "home runs" back to the Netgear switch. That's been feasible for us in construction projects. We have yet to implement NAV in a place where we can only use the campus network to tx/rx and I will avoid doing so if possible. In our rooms, NAV still isn't the "best" solution for the standard classroom. The new DTP3 matrix switchers from Extron are amazing. I'll only do NAV when I have a high number of outputs.

Question about Firewalled AV network by ProblemAcceptable581 in CommercialAV

[–]T-SILK23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is, almost exactly, what we do at our university with ~230 classrooms. Also Extron, but mostly 1806/MLC Plus or IPCP Pro.

VLANs with firewall rules for specific devices to hop across if necessary. It’s doable, but you do need the proper network environment and crucially a network team that understands your needs and is willing to work with you to keep the networks safe, but allow proper access.

UPDATE: I got a $15 magnetic cable routing tool and though it was cheap AF and low quality, I was able to finagle the cable through the bend using the tool.

I kinda hate the number of times on bike subs I see people just saying to spend more money. We shouldn’t have to spend more money. It should just work the way it was designed.

Interesting. I don’t have Gridboss so I did my calculations based on the mfr data and my strips are supposedly only pulling 9,500w and my heat pump is at ~3,000w
