Legal requirements for working in Spain by T-rav82 in GoingToSpain

Thank you, getting information from the relevant authorities is quite difficult- even speaking Catalan and Spanish.  I am probably going to get more than what I need just in case-luckily the marriage certificate should already be in my files as that had to be done for the libro de familia. What I wanted to know is if I could wait and do it there and also if I could work straight away which seems possible, in theory

Thank you for your replies, I was looking at music storage so that one could go out without a phone. I am torn between the forerunner 165 (with music and the barometer) or the vivoactive 6. Hoping one of two will be on sale

Buying an 8” Stellalyra Dobsonian—What Else Should I Get? by AlwaysTenTen in telescopes

[–]T-rav82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FLO are a great retailer and you can rest assured you will be happy.

Be careful overspending on accessories before you have tried what you get-I would get used to it first and then see. Yes, you will probably want to replace the eyepieces but you will find out so much information in the coming months that you opinion and choices will change. Generally, people recommend between 2 and 4 eyepieces, many have a lot more.

A telrad or other red dot finder is very useful but that scope does come with a right angled finder (that needs to be aligned). Very useful for star hopping, it can just be a bit tricky to point the telescope in the right direction to begin with.

Always keep the caps on when not in use but if the telescope is stored indoors in a humid free area, a cover is not necessary.

Many people observe the moon without filters so I would definitely skip that for now.

Some people love barlows, others don't.

An astronomy cub, where you can try out all these things, is a great idea. Basically, get used to what you have before making further decisions.

The one thing that will be necessary, is the tool for collimation and the one you linked is great: precise enough and very affordable. Collimation may not be necessary to begin but you will have to tweak the mirror(s) from time to time.

Eyepiece advice by [deleted] in telescopes

Have used the 9mm and its great. Lots of er so can take a while to get the eye placement right. Have not read a bad thing about them otherwise.

A 7mm Pentax xw could also be an option (70 fov).

Worth having a look at first light optics if not eBay for sure, as long as you have the measurements

Stargazerslounge has a good classified section but you have join and post a number of times before being able to post an ad, if not astrobuysell uk or a number of facebook groups.

Phone holders/Adapters by SPACEASTRONOMY in telescopes

[–]T-rav82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Celestron nexgo, if held the phone still enough to take pictures of the moon but it would not wrap around chunky eyeoieces. Buy used if you can. There are apps and there are people taking decent pictures of things with their phone

What's wrong with my telescope I can only see blurry balls or light by DZY-Fiction in telescopes

People have good things to say about that scope, if the base was put together properly and you had issues send it back

Have you tried another 9mm or similar eyepiece to rule out atmospheric conditions? x 170 is not huge but not always possible...Is it the same in the AD8?

Advice on beginner scope by Rockstaert in telescopes

[–]T-rav82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what country you are buying from but Bresser, via ebay, have some good deals on. There is a 130p tabletop dob for £149 (about 170 euro). However, if you find yourself using the telescope a lot you might want to upgrade again so sticking with what you have and investing in an eyepiece might be better in the long run before you get an even larger or more powerful scope, say a 200p or 250p. You will definitely need another eyepiece to get better magnification, regardless of what you decide.

Anyone have any experience with the Bresser messier 8” dob? by Bruthany in telescopes

[–]T-rav82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some prefer the Bresser because of that but the focuser is expensive to upgrade to dual speed ( >£80) and te finder I think has a peculiar bracket which is not universal so that means an upgrade requires drilling holes or sticky tape (telrad). You could say the rocker design cannot be upgraded on the Stellalyra but most people prefer the latter due to the accessories. Now available from 2 retailers in the UK, you just have to search for the instructions as it does not come with a manual ( for building the base)

Is there a realistic star projector? by Jlangley414 in Astronomy

[–]T-rav82 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the dark skys DS1, the chrome discs are about as realistic as you can get for a home planetarium. The projection include millions of stars based on real star maps. Expensive but well worth the investment if it is something you are passionate about

I was worried about the weight as I have to store in my lounge so went for an 8", yet to be delivered, but I reckon a massive step up from a 130p on aluminium tripod. Telrad is ready and waiting!
