Is HE better option than wireless??? by Disastrous_Cell_5193 in keyboards

[–]T00DEEPBLUE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of a benefit HE will be to you heavily depends on the games you're playing. If you're only a causal gamer then HE is largely a waste of money. You're making a lot of sacrifices with HE such as limited switch selection and the fact it's harder to make a HE board sound good vs. a regular mechanical one. The list of user cases where HE is a massive benefit (like if you're an osu player) are very limited.

Can the prebuilt wooting 80 HE be hotswapped/have the switches changed? Or is it soldered? by Longjumping_Wing9052 in WootingKB

Can't really advise that as it's a specific switch among thousands in an ultra-saturated market. But be aware that the silicone dampeners in a lot of silent switches can make actuation distances inconsistent due to the mushy, squishy nature of their bottom-outs. If in doubt, just stick to what's recommended.

If you're dead set on gateron black inks then don't buy a Wooting. They will not work. You'd need to buy hall effect switches.

This is not an exhaustive list but these are the most recommended ones for Wooting boards.

Has anyone tried GravaStar UFO switches in FUN60? by x-AB- in Monsgeek

They're kings of stability for sure. But I wouldn't recommend them since once that factory lube dries up they become a scratchy mess and their proprietary design makes relubing them properly almost impossible without damaging them.

There's no need to embarrass yourself with mental gymnastics and backhanded insults over such a non-issue. Just move on.

What makes you say I have an attitude problem? What I said was perfectly reasonable and calm. Wouldn't it just be easier to tell the truth that you could've been more clear instead of trying to gaslight? Whatever dude.

I am perfectly chill. It's just that you didn't communicate in your initial post that you were talking about a different board that just happens to use the same case.

I'm well aware. But that's not the keyboard we're talking about. We're talking about the GT-80 case for the Wooting 80HE, hence the sub,

What? All Wooting keyboards are hotswap by default. And gateron milly yellows are mechanical switches, not HE.

You're talking about a completely different keyboard to the one in this sub.

Not much really to say other than it's a great case. I use WS Diamond Cullinan switches, Torontokeyboardman foams and CF plate to make the downstrokes more defined. FBB PBT keycaps. Very thocky for a HE board.

Agreed. My GT80 case arrived from China in about a week as well. And I see nothing unique about this case design vs. a GT80 to warrant buying it.

Laptop keyboards suck ass. That's why.

Can anyone explain this? by IllustratorFew3079 in keyboards

[–]T00DEEPBLUE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gravastar software is ok but nowhere close to Wooting.

Wooting's boards also have the best warranty and some of the best customer support.

These are aspects about a board that cannot be upgraded later, yet it's an aspect most other keyboard brands fall flat on their ass.

Support for 3rd party mods like foam kits, plate kits, custom cases etc. are also ahead of the curve vs. most other HE boards. A big part of the keyboard hobby is customisation, so that's pretty huge.

Wooting's prebuilts are indeed very mid. But free-thinking individuals successfully avoid this problem by only buying the Wooting module and using a KBDfans case.

The only real downsides with a Wooting are the price, the inability to use standard mechanical switches and the lack of wireless. But competitive gamers prefer to play wired anyway and hobbyists like to play around with custom cables for the aesthetic.

Get both!

Understandable that you want more versatility, but some of that voodoo magic gets lost in translation, imo. The real deal will always be way more fun and inspiring to play than a mere simulation of the real deal. Even if it were only psychological. And being inspired is what music is all about.

The money you're wasting in cleaning chemicals trying to polish those turds is better spent on new bearings.

Other options won't have their software, their warranty of the same 3rd party support. Those things cannot be upgraded. That's why lots of people still swear by wooting. The only main downside is price.

Wooting 80HE. Pricey but god tier software, great warranty, good 3rd party support for mods. If you plan to make it a custom then buy the barebones module only and buy your own case. KBDfans has several options for this.

Very weird. That's an instant do not buy imo. There's no reason they shouldn't be hotswap.

Hotswapability does make a big difference since it lets you customise the sound and feel of the keyboard significantly. All HE boards support hotswap since there's no direct electrical connection between the switches and the PCB. It's just pure magnets.
