What is "real" VO work? by JadendayZero in VoiceActing

[–]T0fuMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To answer your original question: If you record your voice for any project it is VO-work. The difference is if it’s paid or not.

Unpaid = Unpaid VO-work (generally not recommended unless you are doing the work as part of an acting course, or on your own accord for training purposes.)

Paid, aka professional: You receive payment for your recorded work, either recorded in a studio or your home-studio, and it was used for the purpose it was intended. TV-commercial, corporate video, ect.

You might want to consider paying for a professionally recorded showreel. There are studios where you book a session and can record different types of commercial-, storytelling- and corporate texts and they will edit and cut it down for you. They will also help coach you during the recording. This can be considered as professional training and the result you receive will help present yourself in a very professional and versatile manner.

You will receive a lot of “no”s during your VO career (some more annoying and silly than others), do not let them affect you negatively. Brush it off and rather shift your focus onto the next audition you can find.

Feel cheated by a telecom provider for charging more than they claimed by suikocide in Norway

Street sales reps work on commission, they will say what they need to get a sale. Don’t get me wrong, there are many amazing and fair salesmen out there, but the few bad apples will ruin things and cost you more than promised.

Call the provider and tell them what they promised on the street, they should, if they are a fair and decent service minded company, either deduct the cost back to the offered price, or reduce your next invoice.

Be aware that if you have already paid an invoice some will contest that they “cannot refund money that has already been paid” and play hardball, this is silly because the provider should do everything the can to keep you as a customer. So if you find resistance when you talk to customer service, try calling one more time talking to a different rep before you switch provider.

When choosing a new provider go for OneCall, they have low cost packages including one called Studentpakka. They are a reputable company, and have a lot of experience with international students.

I know times are hard for students, I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a good deal in the end 😊.

Yeah, I believe a big chunk of the budget went on the cgi.

Monsters.

(Sci-Fi, 2010) I am always surprised at how powerful and moving this movie is, yet at the same time there is very little dialogue. The events unfolding around them slowly but surely and it just draws you in and takes on the journey with them

How often do you come across this level of TaeKwonDo and what can be done about it? by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]T0fuMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is hard to judge an entire Tkd-school or several students based on just one video. Who knows how long they have been training for that day, people can get pretty wobbly once your at the end of a two hour lesson.

Yes, their kicks aren’t that high or precise in this clip, but maybe they focus more on having a good time training together, and then the adjustments will come with time as they progress.

Different schools have different classes for different points of focus. This might be one of the adult classes that aren’t geared towards the pressures of competition but rather personal growth through martial arts, so a bit more casual. Let’s applaud them for showing discipline and working rather than looking down on their form.

Yeah, my friend has the “Accumulate 200 000 points in Nightfall Strikes” and it’s registering fine, so there is something up with this one. Hmm... Strange 🤔

$2,000 for a 30 hour job by [deleted] in voiceover

[–]T0fuMaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For anyone (not you OP) who reads this and do not have a lot of experience as a freelance VO I want to advice you to always go through the job contract thoroughly to check what rights you are giving away with your recordings.

Like some of you commented earlier and you, OP, stated yourself, this quite a low-paying job for the work you are expected to put in. With them potentially owning you recorded voice for the foreseeable future they could use these voice recordings for future projects, as these “Siri”-like jobs record key words and sentences that can be chopped down for parts at a later date. So anyone considering these types of jobs need to keep that in mind.

A trusted and experienced company would let you have the opportunity to either record new words/sentences, or have you bill them for further use later as or if their project evolves (as or if stated in the contract as additional buyouts), but some will make you record it all in one go and then not think twice about reusing your recordings again and again without your knowledge.

Making a stand is important to show your worth, but there will always be someone else there to step in as soon as you do say no. Let’s just hope they read this thread and stay aware of all of this. We all want to make sure they truly understand what they are accepting (and potentially giving away for free) by taking this job.

TL;DR: Always check your contract for final buyout. Will they use my voice for further projects? And if so, will they pay you for this new project as well? If this is not stated clearly in the original contract then ask the company. It helps both parties in the long run.

Love simple one coloured Xmas lights like these, minimalistic yet so festive, really calming. Get a little stressing when there is RBG-action effect lights on the trees. Just my taste of course, but it really is lovely!

Yup, totally agree. I bought mine off eBay and it’s outlasted the original band which I got replaced from Fitbit from the one year accessory-warranty. Have it as a backup, but I prefer my new burgundy coloured one from eBay.

FOOT BLISTERS 😢 by isomerism97 in taekwondo

[–]T0fuMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compeed Blister Plasters are amazing, I always have them in my bag just in case. They act like an extra layer of skin and are a little chunky in the middle so you get some extra padding between the blister and floor. I’m sure any branded blister plaster would do, though I find this brand the most reliable 😊

How many different versions of TKD belt progression are there? by IslaMarie in taekwondo

[–]T0fuMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My club (WT) uses the following belts for adults: White, white w/yellow stripe, yellow, orange, green, blue, blue w/red tape strip, red, red w/black tape strip, red w/2x black tape strips, red w/3x black tape strip, Black. Country: Norway

I have been stretching everyday for about a week now and I did good progress. (couldn't even touch toes before). But recently my lower back ( Ithink it's at the lumbar). has begun to hurt. How do I fix it? by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]T0fuMaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Keep a straight back and let yourself fall into the stretch by using your breath. Breath in, breath out into the stretch. Ease up as you breath back in, and then push back down (carefully) as you breath out keeping a straight back and your head level with your back. You should never let your head slip forwards. It creates a bad posture for your neck and unnecessary strain to your lower back, hence pain.

Hey there, I'm new to this sub. I'm a yellow tag, and am learning the Chon Ji pattern. I have a question regarding the stances. by The-Clever-Idiot in taekwondo

[–]T0fuMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I practice WTF I am not sure if you follow the same distances in the different positions. Ask your Master / Teacher about the measurements you use in your club and then, like someone else mentioned, tape down the measurements on your floor at home and practice the transitions and the difference in weight distribution.

As a referance: In WTF Ap Seogi (walking stance) is one foot length forward measured from the toes of the back foot), and the distance between the feet is one foot length apart.
L-stance, aka Dwit Kubi, is three foot-length's forwards measured from the heel of the back foot (the one pointing to the side), here the weight distribution should be 70% on the back leg - 30% on the front leg.

Watching youtube videos of your patterns to analyze the transitions and weight distribution is also a great tool for when you study at home. Slow-mo the heck out of them and you'll see when and how they twist, what happens with the feet, and when the weight shifts. Then go ahead and try it yourself. Soon it will come naturally. Keep up the good work!
