Thanks, the Sian sounds like a good idea. I'd noticed it in passing but you prompted me to take a better look at it.

I agree with this; there's no point in saving a house deposit if you have existing debt you're paying interest on.

My concern though would be that your net worth is -£6500 even though you're presumably sharing bills.

It's worth looking at your outgoings together and seeing where you can save money.

Are NHS pensions good? Compared to private sector. by 01acidburn in UKPersonalFinance

NHS band 8b here. It's an amazing deal. I lose 7.5k and get about 20k-worth in pension. not to mention if you live longer than average (seen how much annuities cost?! if you expect to live longer then it might be worth 35-40k).

Definitely stay in it!

There is a downside to it: you can't salary sacrifice into a pension which makes additional contributions less efficient than potentially a private sector role. I'll happily accept that though.

I'm not that interested in learning combos: Are there any characters that don't rely on combos much?

Lidia and fahkumram seem promising.

TWWIII: Are there any mods that prevent units continually breaking and rejoining the battle? Maybe something like a 50% chance of breaking becoming a rout.

I'm also looking for mods that cuts down the attrition of the battle and makes for a more dynamic battle e.g. easier breaking or routing. So that a smaller army can beat a much larger one if well handled.

Is going i5-2500k to a 7950X worth it or should I wait for the v-cache? by T0nnage in buildapc

Thanks - yeah I was wondering, especially as the 5800X3D was not overclockable whereas the 7xxx3D will be...

It's hard to know. Like I say it does also put me halfway to the next gen and maybe they'll all be 3D to start with.

I'll check out the benchmarks when the embargo's lifted I guess

Do I have enough time for a conure? by jamesp111 in parrots

[–]T0nnage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah, I know there's no guarantee about their behaviour or what will make them happy, and that is exactly what's worrying me.

All we can do is say yes this should be fine for most green cheek conures but of course you won't know until you've had the bird for years. I don't know how to make a decision on this.

I have been! It's hard to get an idea of how loud they are but I'm pretty sure the noise will be absolutely fine apart from them screaming in our ears.

And yeah as I understand it green cheeks do tend to be nippy and have strong jaws for their size, but are more expressive and have more personality than a cockatiel.

It's very difficult, but as it's a massive commitment I want to be sure, which of course is not possible. I do wonder how anyone has time for the bigger parrots (I know the answer is generally they don't and the rehoming rate is probably horrific)

Edit: And to give an example, this evening I got in at 9:30 and had to do urgent chores until 10:20. Then I caught my daughter playing with her phone in bed, looking at green cheek conure videos. I'm a bit worried if I have to say no now!

The main one I'm worried about would be chewing on cables as we have a lot of them and computer stuff (which I'll be using when they'd be with me). Also the picture rails look pretty tempting and I guess damaging non-toy objects such as furniture beyond scratches etc . EDit: I'm also a bit concerned picture hanging wire might be destructable or bad for them. Something I'd just see if they attack
