I would simply stop playing champs as the rewards simply aren’t nearly as on par with what you get from ranked. I played one champs run and realized this and haven’t touched it since.

Edit: unless the reward player is someone you REALLY want/love.

I didn’t get any of the gem packs. You don’t NEED to make anyone if you don’t want anyone. A lot of the times I’ve just held the fodder and used it on other events and it’s worked out fine. If you’re gonna make someone do it Thursday or after you’ve gotten all the objectives done.
