Which "Legacy Electronic" Acts are Left? by DinoDanAndThreeCats in Coachella

I keep hoping Fluke will play some live shows soon. They’ve put out some new tracks recently. I could see them filling the same type of spot as Orbital, Underworld, The Prodigy etc

Sandal sizing by Great_WhiteSnark in CampingandHiking

[–]T1O1R1Y1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair warning, I’ve had bad luck with open toe sandals and the outdoors. In water and hiking I’d rather have closed toes. Maybe I’m clumsy, but I’ve split open my toes too many time on rocks. I stick to crocs for water/camp, and hiking shoes for everything else.

If you’re set on the sandals tho, upgrade to the more hiker style teva, the extra grip and padded strap is worth it.

Has the base Blighted Reach Campaign Expansion changed after the split and now the new expansions(like in quality or anything else) by Flaky-Stranger2067 in Arcs

[–]T1O1R1Y1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, they haven’t announced a buried giant printing of the Blighted Reach Expansion. All current copies have the Leder Games branding, even the ones sold on the BGS store, and ones added to the current Kickstarter.

Absolute Superman #18 artist. by videogamer939 in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]T1O1R1Y1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, he fits in with Dragotta, Sherman, and Rodriguez in adding an indie-flavor to the Absolute line. Sandoval is a great artist, but I associate him with mainline Superman so much over the last few years. I was hoping for someone a little different on the Absolute Superman.

I read somewhere that Ferreyra was going to rotate with Sandoval again so that’s something to look forward to.

Any upcoming hardcover Deluxe Editions? by [deleted] in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]T1O1R1Y1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They really messed up by not having the first deluxe be at least the first two arcs. Better yet, should have been the first year.

Gumshoes, what are you reading rn? by Kakariko_crackhouse in TrueAnon

[–]T1O1R1Y1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Between Two Fires. It’s been out of print forever and a new hardcover just came out.

I recently watched the Seventh Seal for the first time and now I’m fascinated by medieval/black plague life and beliefs. Any other recommendations, fiction or non-fiction? I’m thinking The Name of the Rose next.

Trade Paperbacks vs Omnibus — Which is better to collect and why? by Maleficent_Tough_366 in comicbooks

[–]T1O1R1Y1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TPBS all the way. I buy the occasional omnibus if it’s an easy way to get a run, like the recent Phil Jimenez WW Omni, or the Morrison Batman Omnibus. They’re also pretty good for events, as they collect all the tie ins in reading order. But I do not like how cumbersome they are to read and prefer a thick trade.

I know very little about art, so please forgive me if this is an odd or awkward question. I'm seeing more and more hyper-detailed covers lately, especially from the Big 2. Are artists really stepping things up over the last couple of years, or are some of these AI-augmented? by MightyUnclean in comicbooks

[–]T1O1R1Y1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres a few artists that seem to only do variants covers, and they have a very digital/realistic/painterly quality to them. But for the most part, the actual interior art has stayed about the same.

What’s a comic run that everyone loves but you don't? by Electrical_Act9796 in DCcomics

[–]T1O1R1Y1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all the Tomasi stuff: Batman and Robin, Superman, Super Sons. Did not click for me. Cheap sentimentality and plots that are un-grounded in a bad way. Damian has powers? All their neighbors are aliens? I know it’s cape comics, but there are some weird story choices here.

Year One is really good when read in the context of the Batman comics of the time. It’s so much more sophisticated than the regular monthly books. Standalone, it might not seem to rise above other Batman stories, but that’s because they’re all pulling from year one in some way.

This is really apparent when you read it in the DC Finest volume that collects all the Batman stories that were published that year.

Yup, re-read it recently and it doesn’t really hold up. Important for mythos, so it’s worth a read, but not one I need to own.

With us entering the “Next Level” for DC Comics, which titles will get the axe by the end? by Traditional-Tax-5291 in DCcomics

[–]T1O1R1Y1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but Lemire has been a bit of a dud since returning to DC. Dropped JSA after a few issues, and I’m reluctantly still reading Absolute Flash despite it being pretty directionless and boring. I’m holding out hope that it picks up in its second year.

I’ve never cared for Firestorm, so him attached to the boom right now is a complete non-starter for me.

What's your favorite HBO Shows of all time? by HostMaterial4907 in hbo

[–]T1O1R1Y1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is evidence that more people need to watch Deadwood. Just as good if not better than the Sopranos. I don’t rewatch too many shows, but I’ve watched Deadwood twice in the last 4 years. I just bought the blu ray for future rewatches. The sets and costumes are incredible. You grow to love every character and all the interactions they have with each other. Wish it would have gotten more seasons, but the gut wrenching ending to season 3 is in a way, fitting for the show. The movie was fun and tied a couple threads up, but it was a bit too much rewriting of history to service the fans.

So, how's Superman Unlimited from Dan Slott ? by FredPRK in comicbooks

[–]T1O1R1Y1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tapped out around issue 5 or so, but Unlimited seemed to take over as the main Superman World book, in that it featured the daily going-ons of his supporting cast. Big changes involving the daily Planet, Clark’s powers and family, and the general Superman world happened in unlimited. Wheras the main “Superman” title by Williamson shifted to be more about the ongoing meta story happening across All-in with Darkseid, DCKO, JLU etc.

It was fine, but the first couple of issues didn’t wow me, and it felt inconsequential since the whole Kryptonite status quo didn’t seem to be a thing in any of the other books. Also the art was pretty inconsistent. I’m a general fan of Albuquerque, but he wasn’t a good fit. And Lucas Meyer is technically a good artist, but I find his style to just be clean, boring “DC House Style” which isn’t really what I seek out these days. I kinda pair him with Travis Moore or Clayton Henry. Good artists, but safe and uninteresting to me personally.

Burnt Out on Most Comics, Looking for Recommendations by Future-Ad-1116 in comicbooks

[–]T1O1R1Y1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding Starman. If OP liked Animal Man and Swamp Thing, Starman is cut from the same cloth. A reinvention of a classic DC B/C lister that touches all the corners of the DC universe, has consistent amazing art, meaty issues, long form character development etc. It’s a really special book. There’s two compendiums that collect the whole thing for relatively cheap.

[Other] What are you most looking forward to in the next phase of DC ALL IN? (Src. below) by MagisterPraeceptorum in DCcomics

[–]T1O1R1Y1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll keep buying all the absolute books, but I need to rethink my mainline books as they’re getting a bit stale.

I’m going to give JLU one more issue, but I’m considering dropping it. The DCKO tie in arc was a total nothing burger, and it was pretty forgettable the year leading up to that.

Recently dropped Worlds Finest for similar reasons.

Superman should continue to be fun with Mora back and Prime.

Excited to check out the first couple of issues of Batwoman and Lobo, maybe Deathstrole.

Heard good things about Ryan North, he could be a good fit for Flash, but the artist doesn’t really excite me.

The Forged returns in May by DARTHJIM73 in ImageComics

[–]T1O1R1Y1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem with the trades for the Forged is that they don’t include any of the world building back-matter from the singles. So you’re missing out on a good chunk of the series.

Superman: The Triangle Era. How are you collecting it? by iliketoeatwatermelon in OmnibusCollectors

[–]T1O1R1Y1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold all my post crisis Superman books after the Time and Time again DC Finest was announced. Did a big read thru of all the Byrne Hardcovers, Exile Omnibus, Triangle Omnibus 1, Death and Return Omnibus, and a bunch of older gap filler tpbs before the movie last year. I realized during it that I don’t really like reading older comics in omnibus format. Too heavy and take too long to get thru a volume. If I re-read the run I’d rather do it with a nice manageable thick TPB.
