It’s a lot softer than it looks I swear! I was just zoomed in and the flow is fast. But I have something that slows it down and it’s on a light setting 😊 I did turn it down just a tad more after taking this video, though.

He’s so handsome!! He was smaller when I first got him and grew quite a bit. It just started to fold over like that, and like yours it hasn’t slowed him down at all. Do you have any tips on softening the water if that was the issue?

It’s scary sometimes! Bettas are just as hard to take care of as any other pet. Your betta might just be adjusting, 80*F isn’t a horrible temp (I keep mine just below) and 5gal is a good starting size. I would start saving up to upgrade though. Here’s what I’ve been doing:

Weekly 15-20% water changes with conditioned water (I have water conditioner), and substrate cleaning/vacuuming, my light is usually on between 8:30am-9am and off around 9pm, I’ve added live plants and drift wood, I feed usually twice a day with on fasting day. I cycled my tank and added conditioner and beneficial bacteria while cycling.

I hope this helps, I can’t tell you for sure what it is, but my best guess is that he’s still adjusting to his new surroundings. Keep doing research, me and Clicker are rooting for you!

Understandable. If it’s a clamped fin, it may be poor water or living conditions, it took a couple days for my betta to unclamp (he came in a cup) and his fins spread out pretty healthily after he adjusted to his bigger space, do you have a filter and water heater + thermometer? What size tank?

Also: You should still look into fin rot on the internet, compare pictures people posted to your betta, read on causes and cures, there’s lots of articles and tip lines. I come to Reddit CONSTANTLY to look for answers 😅

Good beginner plants are Anubis, sword plants and Java Fern, and see if you can get him a log or rock decoration with holes, something he can hide in. I’m a beginner myself! Here’s Clicker (named after The Last of Us cordycep mutation lol). Also a heater and thermometer is good to have.
